Short-Term TSLA Price Movements - 2015

Uh, we were not talking about TMC forum members, we were talking about funds dumping shares in the high 249's in the market, watching in realtime.
What market feed do you guys use to watch this stuff in real time. Anything consumer grade or is this something through a bigger firm? I worked for a HFT options MM a while ago, and I definitely don't expect to find anything that detailed, but any software that I could get my eyes on and keep studying would be excellent.
 
If this was a bear attack, it didn't have any claws. However, I am concerned about the Grexit and other macro factors and TSLA lacking any short term catalysts to keep positive momentum. The InsideEVs April delivery estimate for Tesla in North America didn't give the bears much to work with, so now it's really about Model X watch. An even later Model X launch means they'll be looking for a capital raise or means to stay afloat and the bears will be cheering for bankrupcy. Looney, of course, but Tesla death watch would commence regardless. Of course, positive news with Model X or stationary storage firm orders, projects, or other real commitments would have the opposite effect.

A lot of us use TD Ameritrade's Thinkorswim, which is free with any account and is, IMO, as close to a Bloomberg terminal as it gets for less than $30k/year. It even exposes Level II data if you are into that. Their mobile apps are solid, as well. Others use Interactive Brokers and like it.

There used to be a thread to discuss trading tools, but I can't seem to find it.

What type of up front payment is Tesla requiring for the Powerwall and Powerpack?

If Tesla sold around $800 million worth in one week, Tesla could easily have a few billion dollars in preorders by now. Couldn't Tesla use the billions of dollars in "preorderers" to finance the Gigafactory among other things?

Reminds me of the hundreds of millions of dollars Tesla received from Model S and Model X reservations that was used to ramp up production of the Model S, among other things.

When Tesla was taking reservations for the Tesla Roadster, Tesla required a $100,000 deposit.

Anyone think its likely Tesla will require full upfront payment for the Powerwall and maybe a $1000-$2000 deposit for the Powerpack? This would be an easy way to gauge real demand, and would give Tesla a few billion dollars to invest into speeding up and expanding production.

Would make a lot of sense for Tesla, since unless Tesla is able to increase production much faster than planned, the Powerwall and Powerpack could already be sold out through 2017.

So a thread on the TM forum is reporting that ~100 Chinese Model S owners are planning to put an ad in the New York Times requesting hardware upgrades (autopilot, dual motor) for older Model S. While I think their demands are no valid, this could provide shorts with further FUD to drive the stock price down. Below if the first part of the Chinese text then the Google translate version.

There is no such thing as bad publicity. Having a full-page ad in the New York Times that Tesla didn't pay for is a great thing. Shows how passionate the customers are!

I don't think I ever saw old iPhone owners banding together to campaign for Apple to build new features into their older phones.

Anyway, I hope this whole thing doesn't come to pass, it seems embarassing. Rich Chinese acting like spoiled children. They might as well buy new cars for the money they'd spend on a full page ad in WSJ.

You Mean, with level 3, you cannot look ahead to see a huge institution dump is pending at certain price level? Or a large (20mil+) stop limit is located at a specific price somewhere? We retails do not have 20mil+ firepower.

This transaction has no connection to the short time changes in SP. Accordidng to Note 1 on the referenced Form 4 Jerome exercised 1,500 vested options, and sold the corresponding shares according to the trading plan that was adopted back in February of 2015. The quantity of shares that he owns - 2,662 - did not change, i. e. he owned 2,662 shares before this transaction (after the previous 4/15/2015 transaction), and still owns the same 2,662 shares after this 5/11/2015 transaction. In addition to shares, quantity of options he owns after this 5/11/2015 transaction is actually higher than options he owned after the previous (4/15/205) transaction. The owned options changed from 4,162 (4/15/2015) to 9,893 (5/11/2015).

This transaction, as many others similar to this one, that I comment on periodically, have zero information for the short term trader. I would have thought that people would learn to read footnotes before posting by now.

1. The stock option exercise and sale reported on this Form 4 were effected pursuant to a Rule 10b5-1 trading plan adopted by the reporting person on February 23, 2015
 
Sometimes I think Tesla should not have bothered with China so soon, definitely seems like more of a pain than it's worth.

If you are referring to the risk of allowing Chinese copycats to reverse engineer Tesla's too soon, I cautiously agree. If not then I'd say it's pretty sensible for TM to enter the world's second largest luxury car market as early as possible. China is becoming a bigger market than US for Porsche

In China the prices for Mercedes S or Audi A8 are normally 250% or more of that in US because of the tariff and exorbitant sales taxes and fat margins. Tesla's are priced much more reasonably. I am confident that in one year China's sales will be more than 25% of Tesla's total sales.
 
I'm not saying Tesla should never get into China, but maybe it should not have been this soon. Obviously they didn't understand the market and it's obviously not been going as planned. Plus they keep saying how they'd be fine even without China. I'm actually not that concerned with Chinese copycats, anyone wishing to do so simply needs to buy a Model S and import it into China if they wish to try and reverse engineer it. They can't get the cells so even if they copied it to a T it wouldn't be as compelling.
