Born and raised in Mobile, though I haven't lived there for almost 14 years. To say that area is not what it once was, is a massive, massive understatement.

That mall is currently undergoing some investment and renovation, can cross fingers that it helps. No telling.

this unfortunately could be said for most urban areas across the US, it is a shame that this SC is in a depressed area.

It's a little different. That area of Mobile is definitely not urban and is well removed from the downtown area. It's malls across the street from each other, and mostly neighborhoods and other shopping centers surrounding it. The more traditionally economically depressed areas outside of downtown are several miles to the north of this area. Once you go to the west of I-65, it's very much the suburbs (as much as a smaller city like Mobile can have suburbs). I still go to Mobile regularly, but I've been mostly removed long enough that I don't really understand just what happened to this area.

What Telsa probably should have done was go a couple miles to the south. There's a developing shopping center at the US Hwy 90 exit that's the southernmost exit on 65 before it hits I-10. Movie theater, some shopping, some eating, and the minor league baseball stadium is right there. Plus lots of car dealers they could advertise right next to. Haha.

I've stopped here twice on a road trip. I had read some comments on the forums about this location being a bit sketchy before my trip so I had an idea of what to expect, but I didn't want to mention it to my wife.

Traveling from Baton Rouge to Mobile, I arrived around 8:45pm while 19 RM, I plugged in and quickly walked across the parking lot to the Target to use the facilities. As I was returning to the car, I could see a car parked in front of mine with the window down, taking pictures. As I approached they drove away and another car showed up. It was a curious couple that didn't know anything about Tesla so I talked with them and answered their questions for 5 minutes and they left. When I got into the car my wife told me that several cars stopped by while I was gone for those few minutes and she felt a little uneasy. While we waited for the car to charge, we saw many other cars driving through including mall security a few times. I never felt scared and I seem to remember there being some parking lot lighting by the supercharger area; however, I can understand how others might feel uneasy, as my wife did.

On the return trip from DeFuniak Springs to Mobile, we had more charge remaining and decided to go to the hotel and hit the supercharger in the morning. We arrived around 8am and the situation was completely different - the place was almost dead. There was a charter bus for a church or something loading up, but that was about it. Again, I did see mall security a few times.

Part of the reason we went to the supercharger in the morning on the return trip was because the wife felt it would be safer.

I received this reply from Tesla.

"The TeslaMotorsClub.com website is not an official Tesla website. That is an owner-operated public forum, we do not have any control or influence over what is posted there."

Do you have any another suggestion to make this GPS information more accurate?

I don't get it, how does this forum come into play when asking tesla about gps enhancements?

I notice this supercharger received a review on the latest Tesla Time News by Now You Know (Zac & Jesse).

No mention of the risks/dangers experienced at this location. But it is sad that when the guy mentioned it, I thought of "that dodgy one that I read about on TMC". The area has a reputation worldwide now!

We stopped here this evening around 7:45. Sun was still shining a bit. Walked the two kids and grandpa over to the Target and got a few things. By the time we wanted to leave there were still enough people in the target parking lot that we felt safe so walked back and even hung around the car for a few mins with no issues. Was nervous but all went fine.

We did call the mall security and asked for them to come around and check on us and they said they would .... but we never saw them even once.

Hope this is at least a bit helpful.

You must have been there when my kids and I drove past. there was an X and an S. Fun game we play when driving by the Supercharger.. trying to see who spots a Tesla first.

This forum has been quiet for a while. I just wanted to agree with the previous comments that the area is not what it was. I grew up here and this was a fairly upscale mall in its first few decades. I spent most of my teen life here in this mall in the 80s. There has been a demographic shift as many families have relocated further west of downtown, or across the bay to the Eastern Shore.

I agree that a location closer to I-10 would be more convenient for people passing through. I have visited a bunch of superchargers that are in old malls. I imagine that the mall owners are more than willing to give up some of the acres of unused parking space on their property, in exchange for a tiny amount of foot traffic.

Charged here last weekend. I spent some time inside Target while charging. The mall entrance was locked and there was garbage in the hallway and in the adjacent Mexican restaurant. I don't know if they are remodeling the mall, or closing the interior. It was a little sad seeing how far the area has fallen.

Like so many southern towns with declining retail over many years. The signs that security could be called for escorts to the mall were ominous. The Mexican place was outstanding, perhaps they’ll relocate.
