Spotted by MM3 on Plugshare and confirmed by a worker, the Tesla Superchargers in Wollongong at Figtree Plaza are under construction.

This is just off the entrance on The Avenue and opposite the existing AC chargers, as can be seen in green in the top photo below.

This is the first site that will be part funded by the NSW Government EV Master Plan grants.

What we know is 6 Superchargers.

Appears the grant terms also mean all 6 must be usable by other CCS2 cars, and possibly (from discussion on Ludicrous Feed) also require one CHAdeMO plug and one Type2.
There was also some interesting requirements around credit card and possible Opal (NSW Transport) card acceptance.

Will be interesting to see what pops up.

All this DCFC action in NSW is making my head spin 😵‍💫 but in a good way 😄

Just goes to show how some real Government commitment makes a massive difference on the ground. It’s not just talk, puffery, or “virtue signalling”.

Other way around I think. The funding was only for new builds, which meant all pending builds got put on hold for ages, hoping for free sweet sweet government money.

“All pending builds” is a stretch… anything that was already in flight was not eligible for grant money (contracts already signed etc). No benefit in delaying.

To the extent anything was still on the drawing board and deliberately not progressed until this grant round was finalised (and there is no way of ever knowing if that even happened) it would be small beer compared to what will be delivered overall.

They don't seem to be avoiding a particular region - sites opened this year have been fairly well spread out, with SA x2, NSW, WA, ACT and QLD. Add the currently under construction sites and you have VIC x2 as well.

If counting total sites, that would be 8 this year, 11 in 2021, 5 in 2020, and 8 in 2019. However a couple of those were replacements for sites that closed.

On the other hand, it would be expected that the rate should be increasing to coincide with increased sales - but a lot of regional sites were overbuilt to start with.

Project taking shape nicely. Figtree Car supercharger Project - enabling the supply of 6 x Car charging stations - Figtree Grove Shopping Centre
Very tight construction schedule, though all falling in to place ahead of schedule.
Top effort from the crew that will see this one complete by Christmas.
First project of many in the pipeline!"
