Well that makes any decision about holding off for a better battery pack option easier to make. I should just give in to temptation and go for it!
Absolutely!! They are talking, for instance about upgraded seats (in todays shareholder meeting_ ), while i would want these, i nevertheless ordered. They will be a retrofit, but what about the ones already there? Who knows. can't go through life waiting for it, otherwise you will never get it!!

The advice provided by chalkyt (on the renovation site) is pretty much correct for the information you provided. I did not see any hot water load so I assume you have gas hot water heating.

It seems it may be worth checking with both your electrician and local supply authority to see if you can increase your loading. The electrician will tell you what the mains, switches and distribution board can handle or what needs changing. The electrician can also contact the supply authority for advice of what they will supply, based on their rules and capacity in your street.

yes - no electric hot water or heating here.

based on discussion/meetup of Melbourne folk with Cary from Tesla the wall-mounted charging unit for Australia would be up to 32A maximum so it would be on a 40A breaker and derated 20%, which (in my case) should be fine.

Yep I have my cunning plan in place. New kitchen for the wife (build some brownie points), at the same time solar for the house, then straight onto the Tesla. Then I'll need a new goal to sink my teeth into.

Okay, major update on my reservation. Spoke to Annie at Tesla UK, apparently the European distribution centre supplies VAT-free cars for unsupported countries "all the time". For anyone in NZ wanting a RHD Model S, you can order one right now. From the horse's mouth:

I would like to briefly outline the process of submitting a RHD Model S to the Tesla Factory for a European delivery at our Netherlands delivery facility.

1. Finalise your RHD Model S configuration on the UK Design Studio
2. Click ‘Order’ and enter in your Contact Details
a. You may enter in our London Service Center address if your NZ details do not work
i. Unit 11 Vision Industrial Park
Kendal Avenue
London W3 0AF

3. For payment details, just click ‘Pay Later/Wire Transfer’
4. Once your order is complete, please send me the 6-digit RN number
5. I will transfer your current AU deposit over to this new UK order and it will be submitted to the factory for production

Delivery
1. As your UK order is placed, you may re-create your configuration on the ‘Other EU’ Design Studio to view your final pricing in EUROS and exclusive of VAT
2. As we approach our 4-month timeframe to delivery, you will be responsible for arranging transport from the Tilburg, Netherlands delivery facility to your home in NZ
3. About 30 days prior to delivery, you will be assigned a Tesla Delivery Specialist who will schedule your Tilburg delivery with you
4. Shortly before delivery you will be required to submit the final balance of your vehicle in EUROS through wire transfer

Wow that's interesting regarding the unsupported countries. Is there any tax benefit to importing a car VAT-free?
Sure. Why pay Euro-zone sales tax (VAT) when you will not be operating the car in the Euro-zone. When you import to your own country, you will have to clear all the import and registration taxes yourself. Depending on the country, it can be a HUGE hassle.

Does anyone have something definitive from Tesla regarding deliveries to New Zealand? The last official word from Tesla was that there is no word, and before that it was that deliveries were in the first quarter of 2014.

We are lucky that Tesla have committed to Australia given that it is a thin market not helped by our pro-coal, anti-renewable energy government.

I hope it pays off for them. Let's face it, Leaf and Volt sales aren't breaking any records here.

Yes but you Aussies need to drive long distances to get around your massive country, so who wants a car with the modest rang of a Leaf? And the Volt isn't really much of a car anyway.

I hope Tesla does well there but wonder how long it will be before Superchargers start getting built. Without them you aren't going to be able to drive from Sydney to Melbourne or Brisbane.

Is there any commercial network of L2 chargers in Australia?

Word on the street is that Tesla has had more orders from Aus than any other RHD market - including Hong Kong and the UK, where pricing has been available far longer.
Well they have one more confirmed order.
Stone came to my garage today and the Tesla fits better than my Commodore Ute which is supposedly 50mm shorter and about the same amount narrower.
So I pressed the confirm button today at 12:35 PM.
