Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Optimistic stab? Your glass is nearly empty but I'm in Perth too ... I don't want to look how far back the Tesla finance SMS's were mentioned here but I only just got one today (reserved day one, ordered day one). I might go on holiday for a few weeks.
I reserved my X in early 2014. Ordered it in August 2016 (as soon as orders opened). It arrived in Australia December 2016 but couldn't be despatched because it wasn't yet homologated. It was promised to be delivered in mid February 2017 but was delayed due to flood waters damaging a portion of the rail track between Kalgoorlie and Perth. It was finally hand-delivered in March.

I know exactly what can happen to delivery dates from harsh experience.
Going on a holiday is the best thing you can do. Don't fall into the trap of counting down sleeps, I did that and severely burnt myself over and over. I stopped believing the promised dates until I got a text from my delivery specialist on the day saying he was 10 minutes away.

I think Perth deliveries are going to lag the eastern states by at least a couple of weeks. The cars obviously have to catch a train first and then be prepared for re-delivery once they arrive and are transferred to Tesla's local holding contractor. Tesla is likely to fly over some delivery specialists to Perth once the initial madness of the eastern seaboard deliveries has abated.

At an optimistic stab, I'm gunna pick no sooner than week 3 (or 4) in September - in Perth.

Yep I've been telling people September. And I didn't have a reservation and have an SR+ on the way, so I'm probably being optimistic too. Might as well be in another country.

The great news is that no matter how long you have waited and no matter how long you have to continue to wait for your shiny new Model 3, all will be forgiven and forgotten as soon as you hop into it for the first time.

I'm thrilled to see soooo many people about to join the awesome Tesla family :)
With methane now being released from Arctic permafrost that wasn’t originally predicted until 2090, I’m more thrilled that there are people transitioning to EVs in general. That said, it’s too little too late & the genie can’t be put back in the bottle.

With 2 cars to sell on its a little troubling i dont even know which month the car will arrive in..
I'm still holding on hope the LR RWD might make re-appearance in the available to order list. If it does not, I will order SR+ before end of Sept and hopefully get mine before the end of the year. When that happens, I will not sell my old car, I will take it straight to wreckers. I have had a couple of friends offering to purchase it off me, but I do not believe the penny is worth keeping that pollution on the road for longer.

With the increasing rate of permafrost melt and methane release we all have about 20 years remaining to enjoy anything let alone a Tesla.

Hey all! Have been following this thread for a while and it has been full of great information, thanks!

I ordered a touch up paint kit from the Tesla online store to have it delivered through Ausposts Shopmate service. It has now arrived at their warehouse in the US but has been marked as dangerous goods. They need a MSDS for the product before they will ship it. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Does anyone have an MSDS for the touch up paint kit? I have requested through Tesla but not sure how long that response will be.

Edit: apparently it's not the same touchup kit.

Be sure that it isnt marked as a Class 3 flammable liquid or they wont ship it.

Now that LR RWD has been cancelled in the USA, the chances of you getting it down under have dropped considerably. When it was still available Off-Menu in the US, there was still a chance. Like I have pointed out before, the LR RWD battery pack is different than any other config because it doesn't have the wiring for the front motor. Every other LR variant is AWD and the SR/SR+ has a different pack with different modules inside. This is the same reason that it is unlikely that there will be a SR+ AWD - they would have to make a different pack with extra wiring for the front motor.

When Tesla needs to pull more demand levers, they might re-introduce this variant, but if I were you I would stop waiting and pick another model if you need a car within a year.

I rang them and apparently it is marked as flammable but not sure if class 3. They said if I can send through an MSDS there is a chance it can be deemed as able to be shipped but I don’t have high hopes. Otherwise might need to ship it to someone else in the US

I spent seven years and 2500 hours as an airline pilot and dangerous goods on planes is a big deal. Aerosol paints definitely are a dangerous good.

I didn't do any shipping but did do a number of dangerous goods courses the last one a few years ago now - so not an expert. Lots of dangerous goods can go on planes but they have to be identified, packaged and labelled correctly and there are usually limits on quantity that can be carried etc.

Aerosol paints look to be class UN1950 and should be able to fly.

My understanding is that is up to the dangerous goods trained shipper to correctly identify, label and package the goods correctly and this is where things may have gone wrong. If you can get a MSDS it looks like it can be shipped by air. Even without a MSDS if it is identified correctly it should be able to go.

Are there any dangerous goods experts that want to add to this?

While this is definitely correct, the Shopmate policy says they wont ship anything that Australia Post considers a dangerous good. In Australia Posts Dangerous goods guide, automotive paint and spray pain is considered a Class 3 liquid. In order to ship dangerous goods with any common carrier like UPS or Fedex etc, you have to sign an agreement with them and it's not something you could just send from a Pack & Send etc.

That's a tricky one. The issue looked to be around air transport of a dangerous good but if it is because of a more stringent Australia Post policy I'm not sure how you can solve this. It looks like you already have this figured out and the answer is a no.

Yeah not looking good. It is not spray paint but it is automotive paint. Will need to wait and see if Tesla send me a MSDS. Thanks for your help everyone!
