Tesla did this on the Model S when autopilot was rolled out. Sure, they had far fewer cars at the time, but it isn't without precedent. It started rolling out, and we all had it within a couple of hours.

Apple had it's share of botched releases before they perfected the rollout procedures. I remember an entire day of interrupted and broken downloads when iPhoneOS 3 first came out.

I have both, but I am far from my car for at least another 8 hours, and it is not connected to wi-fi right now.
