Farewell old friend... Seems like only yesterday I was watching as my shiny new P85+ rolled off the back of a very similar trailer, now its being loaded up for its return journey to Vancouver. I know someone will enjoy it as much as I did!

OK, enough mushy stuff, I can go back to refreshing my dashboard every 5 minutes waiting for my new car to start building. I'm still guessing that November 24 there will be a pile of posts from people that their P85D started production.

Got a call from Tesla this evening about wheel options. I stayed with the 21 silvers, but they had some decent options for 19 all weather and such. (Like $4000 less)

I can check with my delivery specialist, but do you happen to know if there are now different tire options than the Pirellis to go with the winter wheel package? I understand the Pirellis aren't the greatest in the snow, but as far as I knew I didn't have a choice if I wanted to go with the standard package from Tesla.

Based on the announced VINs entering production, and that there are certain models with early VINs that have been delayed to Feb or later, I think about 1300 per week increment is correct. Roughly it was 60500 in production on 15th, and 61500 on 19th, so 62800 around 26th, 64100 on December 3rd.

I made sure there was no difference in delivery dates staying with the 21 silvers.

Yeah I got that call on Monday as well... I've got the 21's coming with the car and am picking up the base 19's Fri and mounting Nokian Hakka R2s (I may have actually said this same thing earlier in this tread).
From what I understand production will be starting Monday the 24th for the P85Ds...

If you want the whole Tesla winter package, you've got to get the Pirellis... not really a snow tire though, much better for dry cold road conditions.

Where did the information come from that makes us expect our P85D production to start Monday? Where did you see that?

I was told the "End of Line"/start of production would be the 24th. It seemed to me from this thread and a couple of other with similar topics that the 24th was a common date when the Ds will start production in earnest. I am expecting that my car will have arrived in Vancouver, Canada by December 8th which seems fairly firm now so the car would need to be in production sometime at the end of November.

I find this eases the pain thus I highly recommend it.

I'm assuming the Pirelli Sottozero's that come with the Winter Wheel package are the Sottozero 3's right? (The Tesla Accessory Store, which seems to include the most details, just says "Pirelli Sottozero", and there is also a Sottozero Series II, according to Tire Rack.) In any case, I've also read in these forums that people don't seem too keen on the Pirelli Sottozeros for the snow. (You're not the first person to mention it, sundoc.) But reading the few reviews on Tire Rack makes them sound like they may be OK, especially in light of the fact that my P85D that they are going to be used on is going to be AWD, and when people were talking about using them here before the cars they were talking about using them on were RWD.

Thoughts?

I have the sottozeros for my winter tires. Used them on my P85+ last year and will use them on the P85D when it arrives. I thought they were fine in the cold and light snow. I did not have the opportunity to try them in thick snow last season. I have the Prellis because that's what came with tesla snow package in early 2013 when it was $2500. They subsequently raised it to 4k. Now with the pricing back to 2500, it's not a bad deal afaik.

I apologize for this thread-drift, Andrew. I was just coming here to say that I found another thread where someone just got the package installed and said he liked the snow traction, and that I had asked him if they were the Sottozero 3s. That thread is here:

They are the 3s, right? (Not the series II?)

Thanks again, and sorry for the thread drift!

I'm pretty green with envy. I'm driving a car that belongs to my son that he was going to sell. It's a 2005 Ford Escape - manual transmission. Still its only about 2 1/2 weeks and I'll be away for part of that. When I get my D it will almost be as exciting as when I first got my P85+.

I know the feeling. My S85 goes back today.

I'm driving my 2004 F-150 but I've got a lot longer wait than you do since I'm getting an 85D.

Intentional use of the word "drift"?
This might be continuing the drift.. I also got a phone call about winter tires from Tesla (as it appears has almost everyone else). In my case I made the decision with my previous P85+ that having RWD on the mean winter streets of Calgary, good winter tires were a must. General consensus on the many tire threads was that the Pirellis were not the best for our more extreme conditions so I bought my own wheels and tires - which I will re-use. The interesting thing to me is that as far as I can remember, Tesla never called me about winter tires back then. Now that they have an AWD which is less likely to have traction issues, they seem to be fairly aggressively chasing buyers to make sure they have adequate tires. I'm wondering if this is just an initiative because they have a lot of winter wheels/tires in stock or if it is related to the P85Ds huge HP/Torque and making sure that nobody ends up doing an unexpected 360.
