Just read opening post - see I should have introduced myself to this thread.

Reserved: 05FEB17
Ordered: 03JUN19 changed 24JUL19
Spec: P3- changed to LR AWD
Colour: Pearl White
FSD: No
Home delivery Canberra changed to Sydney pickup after reading about mixed experiences with home delivery.

Already cancelled two planned trips. Hope adjusted to seeing the car by Christmas!

Heres what I've gathered from observations and emails, phone calls with tesla.

- Staff have no control on the flow of cars
From what I've gained from phone calls with Tesla, the staff do not have any control on the flow of cars. Pretty much when there were reservations and orders, an algorithms assigns them to be built in the factory, ships them to Australia, assigns a VIN number and then Tesla staff have to deliver it. The algorithm predicts future sales and orders based on previous deliveries and possibly reservations.

- The algorithm has failed to calculate the demand properly
From what I can see, I believe that the algorithm has failed to produce the correct number of cars. No one in Australia really expected the amount of demand for the Model 3 even when reservations were going on due to the luxury car tax, GST, stamp duty, cost of electricity, lack of charging infrastructure in certain locations, etc. I believe it was trained at a pretty low level since high price usually makes low demand.

- VIN assignment is completely random and does not follow a queue
Based on the chart thats been provided, we can see tons of queue jumping or people that just purchased their car and received it a few weeks later. I believe that either VIN assignment is completely random or its based on a certain selection of finance details.

- LR AWD has been left in the dust
Next to no-one that actually purchased the LR AWD have actually received their car, even with reservations, whats weird is around the same time the white interior Model 3 came out and many people that ordered the white interior on reservation have already received their car.

Also, these are just based on what I've seen and heard about. They do not represent anything with Teslas actual sales or on how the algorithm actually works. They are purely an observation.

Thanks for your post, I spoke to Martin Place staff , around the 3rd September, and they told me that exact same - kinda feel sorry a bit for the local staff, copping a bit of flac - but if they read this, a shout out to the friendly helpful staff (in my case thats how they were :) )

Early reservation holders are rapidly closing in on the 1300 day mark.

Anyone else feeling like if you cancelled your current order and submitted a new order today, the car would probably turn up quicker?!
If you order another it will only cost you 3K and you could use your own referral code to get 1500 free charger kms. If your second reservation comes earlier then just cancel you first and get a refund or vice-versa.

Spoke to Tesla this week about the LR AWD or lack there of and was told they might not even be scheduled for production yet. I pointed out I still have and estimated delivery in September and then the guy said that they may be on the way and I could have it in October. He pointed put again that they were offered later than the others so are sequenced last, I pointed out that my mate who ordered 6 weeks after me as he was waiting for the White Interior already has his car even though his variant became available after mine. He just said the delivery specialist will contact me when the car is available........

I thought both the AWD and the White Interior were both released on the 16th July? That was the date I changed my order from P- to P+ with white interior. Whilst there has been a few white interiors delivered, there are still PLENTY of people waiting, me included.

Possibly, he was waiting to see if the P- hen the LR AWD would release with white, after a few weeks he changed to the P+ White interior, ordered middle of August and had his car delivered this week. I ordered day one for the P- then changed to LR AWD 16 July after TESLA told me that apart from the change from August to September delivery there would be no delay for the LR AWD.

I think this is the attitude that one needs to have if you want to buy a Tesla.
IMHO, this will never make themselves mainstream if customers have to change their attitude. A sale at BMW dropped the key when she was passing it to me, then apologise as if she dropped a baby. And it was probably my fault.

It is a launch of a popular model. How many of us buying a car at a busy launch any how? I can't really say if other brands' dealerships are going to do better at this kind of launch. We have to see how Aussie Tesla delivery team is going to perform six months from now.

If I order the same spec now, it would cost me $4,000 extra. And if it hadn't arrived already, how can it arrive any earlier? I may have to change the spec to something I don't want.

Now to game their broken system to get a quicker delivery, I have to pay around 3.4% extra on top of my original order and get the spec I didn't want. hmm, not a good game to me.

We can cut them some slacks with the influx of cars from 3 years worth of orders, but no more excuses by then.
To be honest, I am uncomfortable recommend any buying a Tesla right now. Even one Model X customer complained during this Model 3 rush.

A colleague who wanted to buy a Model Y after watching the unveil isn't happy when she learnt what happened to my order. but I suggested buying one any how because they are going to be bloody good. But just do not buy at the launch or put in the reservation, unless she wanted to support the company without expecting anything in return apart from a car that would eventually arrive. You just can't comfortably recommend one to anyone right now.

Noting I’m waiting for an LR AWD, I’m not expecting to leave #VINLESS for a while, but has anyone had a VIN assigned since the EOC?
I haven't seen any new VIN announcements since prior to end of quarter. I keep checking back here in hopes of seeing/hearing of new VINs being assigned. I've heard of a few people getting deliveries booked in for the next couple of weeks but it seems like they all had their VINs assigned weeks ago and their cars have actually been in the country for weeks (maybe 12v issue or other damage that needed to be repaired?).
It's weird how quiet it seems to be on the new VIN front. The only thing I can think of is that I heard that they make the overseas cars in the first few weeks of the quarter, to allow for shipping/logistics/delivery within the same quarter. Maybe our cars missed the production run last quarter and they are only being manufactured now (or very soon). If that's the case its going to be a long wait!
