What motor does your 2023 Model Y have?

there were 10x MYPs in the lot at local SC and I checked their rear motors. All MYPs VINs ranged from PF699~702 with manufacture date between 2/28 and 3/2. All the rear motors were 3D1. It was surprising there wasnt any 4D1. And we are seeing LRs out of Austin getting 4D1… so if your MYPs were built between 2/28 and 3/2, you most likely got 3D1
do those VINs come with an "F" at the 8th digits?

Great stuff!

Any chance you could do that again with ideal conditions? SoC and cell temp as high as possible, aiming for 100%/50°C, which is hard to do if there is no suitable road next do a DC charger, I know.

Just judging by this power reduced 50% run, the new motor is not making a real difference. Torque is pretty much the same as the 3D6 hairpin motor out of China when paired with the Panasonic battery pack. It also doesnt deliver more power at higher speeds. This is comparing EU/China hairpin motor to the US 4D1.

The US 3D1 motor keeps its high torque a little longer, but looses more torque at higher speed. This is apparently still the one to have for good 0-60mph times. The hairpin 3D6/4D1 motors "shine" more at highway speed acceleration.

I've got lots of 100%/50°C logs of 3D1 and 3D6 paired with the US Panasonic and China LG battery packs. So for perfect comparison we would need a similar high SOC/Temp run with the 4D1.

Yes, they all had F at the 8th digit. All were performance models with 21” uberturbine wheels with red break calipers

I'm pf710... Let's see in 2 weeks
I am not sure which is preferable from what I have read the only thing for sure is the 980/3D1 is an 800 amp motor. no info on the 4D1 is that correct?

ps. I should be receiving the Certificate of Origin in the next 3 days or so and will post up what the declared SAE HP is as well.

Anyone have a new certificate of origin HP they would like to share?

You didn't get at delivery?

2023 MYLR, build date 1/23, assembled in Fremont. Matrix headlights and 3D1 - 980 motor.

No and I did ask for it directly.

The Gal said it would be mailed to me in the next 3 days.

I will absolutely need it to transfer title and register in Idaho.

I want a copy of it to keep in my records especially since it is the only place Tesla declares the SAE HP that is tied to a specific VIN that I am aware of.

As it stands the window temporary will be expired before I make it to the DMV.

I Did get the window sales sheet that has all of the crash data and price.

Tesla added in the extra 2 grand in the price. I guess that is in case a person is a no sale on their pre order ...

MYLR Fremont. Going to take a look today and verify which motor. Also saw this interesting software hack:

Read post #112 in this thread, Ingenext offered me a 25% discount if I would let them do some testing on the new 4D1 motor. I'm not a big speed guy, however. it looks like you have the 3D1/980 Performance motor, which is typically compatible with the Ghost upgrade.

Tesla is only differentiating between Base (600A) and Performance (800A) motors. There is a Base and Performance motor in each Drive Unit Category so far. More precisely it should actually be a high current inverter motor and a low current inverter motor, but this is getting a bit too technical I guess.
  • DU CAT 1 = 3D1 / 3D5
  • DU CAT 2 = 3D6 / 3D7
  • DU CAT 3 = 3D6 / 3D7
  • DU CAT 4 = 4D1 / 4D5

Actually the motors are not exactly 600A and 800A as you can see here when diving deep into the (not publicly available) technical documentation:

"800A" Performance Motor max power = 840A x 320V = 269kW
"600A" Base Motor max power = 655A x 335V = 220kW
3D3 Front Motor max power = 630A x 335V = 211kW

Here is an example of a M3P 2020 with 3D3/3D1 Drive Unit Cat 1 motor config.

As soon as the rear motor reaches 269kW the excess power will go to the front motor. Since the power is limited by the battery, you will never see the rear going to 269kW and the front also getting to 211kW.

In the Model 3/Y Long Range, when you buy the Acceleration Boost, you will see that the rear motor is quickly "saturated" at 220kW and then all excess power goes to the front as well.

I have never seen the front motor actually gerting to its 211kW limit.

There is one odd one out and that is the Model 3 Standard Range with the "600A" base motor as when connecting SMT you will see that this motor is not stopping at 220kW, but can go up to 239kW. No idea why Tesla is pushing the limit on that one as there is no point really.
