I was just wondering, for those of you who bought/financed direct with Tesla, did you get anything like that? I seem to remember reading that some people got a small model car but maybe that was for early orders.

We got a courtesy call on the way to pickup to say they had lost our car. Very nearly didn't even get the big car let alone a free tank of petrol. Got someone else's pile of *sugar* instead. No wonder they refused us even checking over the car before driving off.

I would adjust your expectations down somewhat.

Fortunate enough with my M3LR that the sales assistant chap offerred me a free grey tesla tshirt (and in my size).

Doubt that'd be remotely possible with contactless delivery, but i very much appreciated the personal touch and customer service (coming from a 1.6L petrol hatchback was a big jump so the welcoming was great).

Was Knutsford Tesla Nov 19 (whilst it was open) and Stockport for pickup in Feb 20.

We got fresh cookies and a few coffees

They day arrived - we made the journey to Bordeaux...eagerly anticipating the incredible experience of joining the leading-edge of automotive technology. As we entered the glass door to the holy grail, the receptionist eventually (well, this is France) glanced up from whatever important task she was carrying out in the otherwise empty dealership, 'Leave your papers there, the car's outside - call us if there's a problem.' was her warm greeting. As we stood there smiling stupidly at her, waiting for the next part of the welcome process, she returned to her head-down stance. It was at this point I decided not to suggest that a plastic Tesla rain jacket might be a nice gesture....

Was the chap’s name Cameron by any chance? We had a great experience with him at Knutsford when we were looking at the various colours of car before ordering.

Knutsford was at the time one of only two stores to sell Tesla “swag”, the other being Heathrow.

We found out our SR+ hadn’t been loaded into the delivery truck on the day it was supposed to be delivered. Fast forward just over a month without a car (at the beginning of COVID) and car was finally delivered. The guy I’d been dealing with had arranged for floor mats as an apology which was nice.

Blimey, here's me expecting a mug and a brolly, and you didn't even get a car. This is worrying.

Yeah, it was due for delivery on the day after Boris announced lockdown so the storage company shut up shop and didn’t think to give Tesla access to their yard. Obviously completely out of their hand which is understandable - could’ve just done with a bit more clarity from Tesla as to what was happening.
All forgotten now it’s here though - I’ve not got kids but I’m gonna liken it to that (all the pain of delivery forgotten once it’s in your hands).

“tedious and long winded hand over process” - Yep that was my experience also. I remember some “interesting” comments from the sales handover guy....”this car needs no maintenance at all” and “it doesn’t have locking wheel nuts as the car is so heavy, it’s very difficult for thieves to jack up the car to remove the wheels”:D

When I collected my Model S back in April 2018, they covered the cars with a silver “satin sheet”, had your name on a little stand next to your car and did a big TA-DA, to pull back the sheet and reveal your car. It was quite a nice moment. I have a video of it. :)

I then signed the paperwork on the nearest window sill, with an invoice that was incorrect. :p

So, the early indications of an iffy delivery process were there to see...

I know that my dad was an expert in getting 'free things' to the point of saying he wouldn't sign for the car if he didn't get a bunch of flowers for my mother and some mats, I suppose it was because he was spending so much on a new car that they would bend to his will - anything for commission. Now though with companies using the online ordering model (especially Tesla) there is going to be less haggling over the price and less chance of freebies. I'm sometimes cheeky and if i'm signing for paperwork etc i'll ask to keep the pen if it's branded or try to get a keyring or something. Personally i'd love a tesla mug or brolly even a keyring or pen, but that's because i'm a bit of a saddo! he he!! Definitely something I can get from ebay or amazon though!!

Hmmm, don't some sign for their Tesla on an i-pad thingy, NOW if you asked to keep that and were subsequently successful that would be impressive :)

...and unless the thieves come prepared with the correct jack pucks, you've got bigger things to worry about than missing wheels.

Jacking a Porsche Boxster can have similar worries as there are pipes that run right beside the sills so unsympathetic jacking can have consequence's :(

Back in 1983 when tech was still to be invented
We ordered our first brand new car; a Ford Escort with factory fitted extras; tints, electric windows and central locking.
Fast forward the thirteen weeks for it to be built, we excitedly arrived at the dealership to find a bog standard model waiting for us with none of the ordered extras. The typist forgot to type them on the order! So much for PDI if they can’t Spot what’s missing! We ended up waiting another 13 weeks while It was built again.
Worse still we had run it in for the first 1000 miles. Very short on wow factor. 0-60 in the same hour.

vowed never to buy new again. Only have once; the M3

PS got coffee and biccies while we debated whether to take the wrong’ un or start again and a Ford key fob to tide us over

We’re changing the wife’s car this week, picking the new one up Friday. It’s a 6 year old Audi, approved used from main dealer.

Wife spoke to the sales chap today to finalise arrangements. He’s filled it up, unprompted, with petrol fossil juice as a “nice touch” as he knows we have 200 miles to get home.

It really doesn’t take a lot to improve the “new car” collection experience.

Haha I got some sticky residue on the centre console, a scratch on the drivers seat and a chip out of the rear drivers side wheel.

these are the type of ‘gifts’ you were meaning yeah?! :)

seriously though these glitches aside it’s the best car I’ve ever had!
