I wonder if that means that the reason Tesla called these releases 8.1, even though they don't have the new kernel/browser, is that that is where the code bases for Classic, AP1, and AP2 finally converged.

I frankly think it was to get some amount of people off Tesla and Elon's back with the delays. Delivering convergence code for AP2 was needed by newer owners and well overdue, but for at least some of us with older vehicles, well, the real 8.1 won't be here until all of their commitments are delivered.
What is up with the HOV lanes that makes it interesting? I hate the way AP1 with 8.0 handles HOVs, and found to be more reliable with a normal lane. If traffic is light enough, I get out of the HOV to allow for a smoother ride and less on & off of AP.
@MarcG informed me that the behaviour i was noticing is not new. just that the other lanes one display while in am HOV lane until you come to a legal entrance/exit.
