email just arrived. #2863!
Yeah, I feel for international reservation holders, you guys will probably have the longest wait of anyone. I can't imagine it takes that much effort to certify the S for Canada, but I do understand Tesla wants to grab the low hanging US fruit in order to fill it's coffers...
Well, I reserved just a month ago (EU P#1088) and expect to get my car around next summer or so...?
What do people think Tesla will do about the EU deliveries ? Make a few (100?) EU cars each month or batch the whole production of ~1700 cars (incl. sigs) and produce all outstanding EU orders in a single month ? The first option would be easier on delivery logistics I think, while the last one would be better for production logistics, since US and EU models will have a few differences (like 3-phase charging).
Right on Dennis! What will your configuration be?
Got my email this morning. Gonna defer.
@onlinespending: Can you clue us in on the deferral process? Like, how long is the deferral period? Is one able to choose when you get to jump back in line? And is there some point in which it's do-or-die?
Since I've seen your post before Online, I'll quote part of the email I got today.
"Defer
You are welcome to defer your Model S order for as long as you like. If you choose to defer we will begin to submit other customers orders to the factory in front of yours so your delivery time will be delayed until you place your order. We will keep you at the front of the queue, so when you do want to move forward with Model S you can expect about 90 days from when you finalize your order till we deliver your car."
I'm getting a bit nervous and disheartened. At 2850, it's looking like I'm being asked to put down a $10k non-refundable deposit 5+ months before delivery and if I don't do that I risk a price increase. That's a huge lead time and it's look like the risk of Tesla missing delivery targets and running into a cash crunch (where my $1ok is more at risk) is getting more probable. I was expecting the 90 lead time, that's been stated pretty consistently. He did state that once you defer, you may be subject to any changes in pricing for the vehicle and options that may occur. I tried to squeeze out of him if pricing on anything was to change. The only hint of this is that he said if I deferred for a couple of months there would be a low risk of any pricing changes.....whatever that means!!!!!

At 2850, I thought I'd have a pretty good idea where Tesla was going to be able to do what it said. I'm torn now between two bad choices, lock down on a car I haven't driven (only drove the Perf) and a company that's struggling to ramp up or defer and potentially suffer unannounced price increases despite having deposited originally 20 months ago. I'm not feeling very happy at the moment.
Looks like it's time for GeorgeB to step in. (Tesla, don't forget what happened last time).
We've gone from unconfirmed delays to talk of early reservation holders fearing price increases.
Tesla, I mentioned this a few weeks ago, but I'll mention it again. Keep the lines of communication open with your reservation holders. One blog post to calm the waters isn't going to be enough.
