I believe that is correct. Those of us who had Sig reservations had to agree that $10K of our $40K became non-refundable, but I don't see how they can enforce that on Production reservations.

Here is the clause in the MVPA. You pay your deposit up to $10,000.

So I only committed $5,000.

Could you not arrange with your delivery specialist a later delivery window? I think this would be a nice touch if Tesla could do this. I'm sure that most want their cars ASAP, but there are probably a few who will want it later for many reasons.

That would be a nice touch but not an option at this point. The Tesla rep was a little shocked that I wanted the car later and not sooner. Like you, I have financial considerations. Unlike you, snow, ice and cold are not a factor.

Congrats from another San Diegan. From the looks of your pin on the ZeeMap, I might have run by your house a few months ago at the America's Finest City Half Marathon. :)

I'd be really surprised if your car made it by the end of the year. With the recent delays, I'm thinking I won't even get my P85 (P2747) until January (MVPA says November/December). Even if Tesla hired 2 more shifts and had Model S's coming out of the factory 24 hours a day, I think the weak link is going to be the logistics of delivery. My impression is that Tesla hasn't hired and trained enough Delivery Specialists. In order to deliver 2000 cars a month, assuming they deliver them 6 days a week, that means almost 78 cars a day. Some of those will be at the factory (20%?), in which case a DS can probably do 4-5 a day, but for deliveries to homes and office, I'm guessing with the travel to and from delivery sites, waiting for trucks, etc, that a DS might be able to average 2 deliveries a day, which means Tesla would have to have somewhere around 30 DS's trained and deployed as of 11/1.

Hello Everyone.

After reading every post on this forum multiple times I finally pulled the trigger and finalized my S early yesterday. I was thinking, that since I procrastinated I would get a Feb./March 2013 delivery. To my surprise my MVPA came with Nov, 2012 –Dec, 2012 expected delivery. How is that possible? I called my Tesla rep and he said that “yes, that is the real expected date”.

I haven’t signed my MVPA yet because I am thinking that I really would rather have a Feb/March delivery.

Question then is: When should I send in my MVPA if I truly want a March delivery? The Tesla rep said December but that doesn't feel right.

Reservation # 4346. 85 kWh, Grey, Pano, 19” wheels, Black Leather, Tech, Sound, Air suspension, and Parcel shelf.

I did that race a couple years ago. No you didn't run past my house but close. I think just to be safe I am going to wait until the end of October to finalize my MVPA. Looks like quite a few Model S in our area. Might have to start a formal San Diego Chapter like they have in Florida.

This makes absolutely no sense to me. The way the 'deferral' process was described to work, is that you would be in a day for day slip from the 30 day window after you received your 'time to configure' email. This does not seem to be the case with your situation. I signed my MVPA two weeks ago (#7645), and yet I'm scheduled for Feb, Mar 2013. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, it just doesn't quite make sense to me.

I think its because Tesla hasnt got even close to production in his number range, thus he is not subject to the day to day slip until cars in that range are being produced. In other words, someone in the P8k list that finalizes before someone in the P1k list, will not get their car before the early reservation holder unless the early reservation holder waits until they are building cars in the P8k range. This is the way I always understood it.

I greatly admire those Roadster pioneers that donated HPCs, but how do Model S owners connect to those first generation HPCs? Is an adapter available?

Yes!
On the NW Tesla Owners Group google group, Roadster pioneer Chad Schwitters talked about his new adapter:

I ordered an HPC adapter with my car. I got the car on Sept 28; the HPC adapter just arrived on Oct 16. It’s got a minimally-sized Roadster HPC receptacle on one end, then about 4’ of orange cable, and then a Model S charging plug. So now I can charge the Model S at HPCs in Ellensburg, Ferndale, Centralia, etc. See attached picture.

Thanks Andy.

I found an active thread on the subject.

Adapter: Roadster HPC to Model S

I ordered an adapter with my Model S so that I can charge it from old Roadster HPCs. There are several in the wild here to the North, East and South of me that Seattle-area owners use for road trips. Without this (given that there is no CHAdeMO adapter, or local Supercharger buildout) I would have been limited to 30A charging at J1772 stations, or 40A charging at campgrounds. I wasn't looking forward to taking the Model S on a trip and charging SLOWER than in the Roadster.

The car arrived on Sept 28, but the adapter just arrived today. Yay! Now I can charge at 70A just like with the Roadster. Good timing, as my wife and I are heading East tomorrow. (I actually don't think we'll need to use it because we're staying at a hotel with a 30A charger that we can reach without recharging, but boy is it nice to have as a backup).

I gather that Tesla is selling them, but I don't see it listed on the Tesla store web page.

Wow, that must have been a cancellation due to the delivery delays. Also, it looks like 353 Sigs have cancelled over the years (since there are only 1000 of them). Crazy!

(Now you are sounding like one John P.)

On the surface, yes, there could have been 353 cancellations gross, but not net. Some of those cancellations could have become Model X Sigs, and some Model S Production.

Notwithstanding the cancellations, having the Sigs fully subscribed shows the robust demand that there is for the Model S.
