Well, I did it!

Just placed my order and deposit for Model 3 Long Range, with RWD 18" Aero Wheels and in Silver Metallic with Enhanced Auto Pilot.

Now the wait begins.

OK, so less than 24 hours ago I placed my order. I just looked at the Tesla Amount Page and the button to manage my order. The "Edit" Button which was there earlier today is now gone.

What does this mean?

Not sure what this means, but can you take (and post) a screen capture of what you page looks like? Trying to see the difference between when the edit button is visible and when it is not. Thanks.

if you selected the "no trade-in" option and payment as cash, then the disappearance of 'edit design' link doesn't mean much. But if you haven't selected these options and the edit link is gone, then you should be hearing soon from Tesla with a VIN!

@Troy I'd like to contribute my data point to the incredible analytics you've created, but have a question ...

I was assigned a VIN for a 3LR on 8/6. Delivery would have been 8/14 (yesterday). However on 8/10 I had 2nd thoughts and decided to change to a 3LRD, which Tesla accommodated. Naturally what would have been my 3LR has been forfeited. When entering the survey data, would I use 8/10 as the configuration date (rather than the original)?
 
@kiartu, wait until you have your VIN and then add it to the form along with the date you found out your VIN. Cheers

@Toadmanor, yesterday, I was working on some changes. Therefore it didn't display "No, I don't have a reservation" for a few hours. This is fixed now.

About the edit button disappearing:
  • If your delivery profile is complete and you have 5 green checkmarks and your edit button has disappeared, that doesn't mean anything. This is a standard procedure that applies to everyone no matter what. It does NOT mean you will get a VIN soon.
  • However, if your delivery profile is incomplete (for example if you have a pending trade-in or if you are not paying cash) and your edit button disappears, then it means you will get a VIN soon. A few messages ago, @njsrikar's comment is correct. More details here.
@THX723, yes I think in your case, 10 Aug config makes sense.

@1deepthink, I hadn't updated the calculations since 10 Aug. The green line that shows the estimate stopped on 10 Aug and the calculations assume it would continue at the same rate. I have now looked at the VIN charts again and there was an increase in the last few days. My new estimate is 66,195 units and 4,648 per week. The previous estimate was 65,139 units.

Mine now just says:

The information below will be used to generate your final contract and your final payment amount. If you mark information incorrect, a specialist will be in touch with you. Changes after confirmation may affect your delivery date.

So I am assuming that perhaps a VIN will be forthcoming.

If on your order page, you filled in all the requested information (address, license, insurance, payment info etc) then it means the order is complete from your end. All you have to do now is wait for VIN and delivery. If you completely filled in these details, the edit-design link disappears. In this case the disappearance does not necessarily imply anything.

If you are financing (via tesla or any other 3rd party/credit-union) as opposed to paying in cash then you will have to leave the payment section incomplete as you need a VIN to get a formal loan etc. Similarly, if you are trading-in your existing vehicle then you will have to leave this section empty as well until Tesla processes your trade-in which happens only after you are assigned a VIN. If in this case, the edit-design link disappears, it means that you have a VIN assigned and you cannot edit your order anymore. There is a chance that the said VIN might not yet appear on your order page though.

I am in the 2nd bucket. I don't have a trade-in but I am financing my purchase. So I left that section incomplete (i.e. no green checkmark, but three grey dots). As you can see in the image below, my edit-design link is still present and I can click and edit my config, meaning I don't have a VIN assigned ( :(:(:mad::mad:)!

One more indication of VIN assignment (other than the edit-design link disappearing) is that grey dots next to your incomplete sections would change to yellow!

@njsrikar i wanted to trade in the car and pay by outside tesla credit union.
i have filled out everything and added all the trade in details. i see that in my payment mode its cash and the trade in value also deducted form my car amount
actually i have leased the car and want to trade in that car.
 
Do we think NOT filling out the insurance tab on the "Prepare for Delivery" has any bearing on slowing down the process ?
I currently don't have a car, therefore no current insurance provider.
My delivery specialist said that they wanted to see that your Model 3 is insured. Which can only happen when you get a VIN so I wouldn’t worry too much about it just yet.

@Troy,

What happened to your “Vin#2” Spreadsheet? It appears gone and I just see a “VIN” Spreadsheet?
Also it appears all colors now are lumped together (no differentiation)? Where as before I could look at each specific color and config? I’m monitoring MCR Performance.
Have you made changes or am I looking at it wrong? I can’t find what I was monitoring daily?
