Thanks - it's mine, and it's driving me crazy that it's going to take over a full week to get to me near St. Louis (even via direct-ship!) after its completion on Sunday. I have another pic where you can see the Sig red peek through, with a black, performance CF interior. Everyone around me is asking me "when are you getting it, when are you getting it?" and have tracked it through its pre-MVPA estimate of late Sept, early-Oct... to the MVPA estimate of October... to and past the original delivery window... to the next one, where it's slipping and slipping. I'm excited but I'm also having to defend Tesla (and doing my damndest at it) and its communications and logistics deficiencies.

Eagerly waiting, today I sit disappointed after my bad news (of it slipping another half a week) but I'm sure a few miles will help take that away when I finally get it.

Ah, patience ...

Somewhere I saw (I think) that VIN 1049 was 'body in white' on 10/29/12. Is this correct? And, you say it was completed on 11/18/12? So, painting through assembly with burn-in, quality control, etc. was 21 calendar days. If the factory is working 6 days/week then it would be 18 days.

Correct?

Here's what I have from my notes:

Body in white 10/29 (it sat here as the cars were processed in order, per George's e-mail they were sitting there to go in order -- don't assume paint takes 10-11 days)
VIN assigned - car to assembly 11/8
Basic delivery information requested 11/9 (via new tool)
Assembly rectification 11/15
Burn-in 11/16
Final MVPA ready, signed 11/17
PDI / Final service rectification 11/17
Car complete and released for shipping 11/18
Car wrapped for shipping, loaded on transport 11/19

Tentative delivery date near St. Louis late 11/26 - early 11/27 (delays reported due to Thanksgiving holiday and "weather concerns")

Drove in traffic today. No HOV stickers yet. Left Santa Monica in rush hour traffic. Had 119 miles of charge when I left, drove 48 miles and had 128 miles left when I got home. Love that regen when used correrctly.
Now THAT'S what I've been wondering/puzzled about. The EPA rating gives lower (88) MGPe for city than for highway (90) driving, for the average (89) rating. But my understanding of BEV physics has always been that lower speed plus frequent regen kept the rating much higher (probably up to 400 mi. range in favourable circumstances, per Elon).

Please elaborate!!

It is finally here: S-1092 Vin 791. I feel so fortunate to be one of the first owners of the Model S. I appreciate all the work that went into designing and building this amazing car: from the first sketch to the person who bolted on the tires … THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!

WOW what an amazing car to drive…I won't repeat what everyone has already said…words don't do it justice anyway; you have to experience it

Punch list stuff: still no parcel shelf, kid seats, lighted mirrors or sun shades but did have front mats and chubby.

Jason, you're really gonna push that unlimited mileage warranty, aren't you!

Little do you know! This week is a whole 'nother level. I love my S but this is ridiculous. Should hit 7,000 miles by Sunday!

I'll consider it my little contribution to mileage testing the S line! I'm going to have to cool it or I'll hit the 40k main warranty within a year. (The unlimited is just battery I think right?)

Wow. How did you get all that info on your car?

I have been working with Tesla to keep track of where it is in the process, as my delivery schedule is a bit more complicated than most. Managing the delivery as a milestone among the usual all-day-meetings work schedule, dodging business trips (5 international and 8 domestic this year so far) and the impending birth of my son in a very high-risk pregnancy (we spend roughly 10 hours a week going to doctor's appointments including travel to St. Louis) means we have to stay on top of targets and manage the variances. Oh yes, and don't forget the usual issues of managing the schedule around my 3 other sons' school activities, boy scouts, Special Olympics events, etc., too! After I expressed my concerns with the lack of communication and made clear my situation, Tesla really stepped it up and I have been in near constant contact in the process.

I'm itching soo badly for that Model S to show up in my driveway, and I hope my car comes with the chubby too. :)

I can truthfully say that purchasing a Tesla Signature Model S has been the most frustrating and unsatisfying purchasing experience in my entire life buying anything from a gumball all the way up to real estate. It was a combination of many things - the overpromising/underdelivering, changing the rules of the game midway through the process always to my detriment, repeatedly setting up expectations only to see those expectations unfulfilled, the poor communication, and sometimes the lack of just plain old courtesy and respect. This whole purchasing process has been full of disappointment. No matter how hard I try to rationalize, make excuses for Tesla and try to give Tesla the benefit of the doubt, in the end it still annoys me to see reservations with sequence numbers 800, 900 or 1,000 after mine get their cars weeks before me. Additionally, not getting any updates for two weeks from a high ranking Tesla rep even after he volunteered to keep me informed every step of the way is just inexcusable. I’m quite certain if I got the same treatment from Mercedes, BMW or whatever luxury car maker, I would have cancelled my order and never been a customer again.

Some on this board probably perceive me as negative, but really I’ve never had anything bad to say about the only thing right in this purchase experience: the car itself. I never got caught up in the lack of console debate, tactile buttons vs. touchscreen, creep, lack of luxury features such as accident avoidance or dynamic cruise control, retractable door handles..or whatever. My only gripes have been with the experience of buying the car, not the car itself.

I understand that Tesla is attempting to set up its own distribution network from scratch which is a daunting task, but they should have been better prepared.

I hope Tesla solves all of its “purchasing experience” problems. It is ironic that one of the reasons for Tesla not wanting to have the traditional dealership model was to provide a better and different car buying experience. Tesla certainly did provide a different purchasing experience, but it certainly wasn’t better. I think I’d rather do battle with the shadiest car salesman than go through what I have been through with Tesla.

Having said all that, my car S#69/VIN#499 has finally arrived. It was delivered yesterday(But how’s this for being the ultimate tease: Tesla did not provide me with temporary registration, so I can’t drive the car yet unless I want to risk getting it impounded.).

From reading posts of people that have received their cars, I hope, like them, that the joy of the car will make all the ill will that has built up melt away (it already has begun to disapate). I really hope that Tesla fixes these problems, and does it soon. Having 1,000 upset guinea pig purchasers is one thing, continuing this behavior in to 10,000-20,000 regular customers surely sets off warning signals about leadership and the long term viability of the company.

I’m glad the purchasing experience is behind me, and I look forward to enjoying the car. Life is much better post-delivery (as long as you have temporary registration).

Not quite. Lower speeds helps, but stop and start hurts, regen can only recover a portion of the energy lost when slowing. The longest range possible will be from slow steady speeds, not stopping and starting.

Gigemags Black Perf was delivered yesterday in Plano, Texas. I had the gift of seeing it in person. The black over black with red piping on the seats is a wonderfully subtle dash of class. I approve.

On his due bill was the NEMA 14-50 adapter. He is capturing electrons at 2miles/hour charge at home. He mentioned the 14-50 being back-ordered. Anyone confirm?

He stated his updated software had the ability for proximity detection of the door handles, but that he had not taken time to assign that variable.

Charge port was a bit sticky at first, but has since worked itself into a functional opening device.

Overall, he is Ecstatic! As an aside, the Delivery Specialist was forbidden to be present at any time of the delivery. So I went over a few of the things I had been taught by other DFW locals who have theirs. Not much to report, but another satisfied customer is born ....

What is his VIN?

- I did not obtain that data. Sorry

@sublimaze1 - Thanks for the details on Gigemag's delivery. You and I have fairly close sequence numbers. I'm P445 - I believe you received your VIN about a week ago so I expect I should be hearing from Tesla very soon regarding the VIN and final arrangements. Have they provided you the information you require to secure financing and insurance? I too am hoping for a Pre-Christmas delivery and estimating a VIN somewhere in the 1800s. It's pretty hard to accurately predict since configuration and options definitely affect the actual production sequencing. I have to say, the Tesla and TeslaMotorsClub forums are becoming quite addictive at this point!

I'm not certain about this but I remember reading somewhere that the EPA test does not incorporate regen.

Sorry That was in response to Brian H
