Model S 90D
Order confirmed on 4/26
VIN: 4/27
Delivery: Late May/June

I talked to my delivery specialist and asked if there was any way I could get my car before a June 13 San Diego trip. She couldn't make any guarantees, and said it was looking like the car would begin production in early June. This is going to be agonizing wondering if I will be able to the car on my vacation!

Good News! Just heard from my DS that I've be queued for production.
Bad News! He told me its for May 30th.

Good Lord, another 30 days. I think I preferred not knowing. LOL!!!
Aw, that stinks. But at least you aren't driving a 2000 Jetta while you wait. Like me.

It will all be worth it in the end!

I'm currently driving the 1992 Buick Roadmaster I bought new. I've had it so long, I skipped CD players in cars. I'll be going from cassette tapes to internet radio and/or USB memory sticks.

I factory ordered that car too. It got half built and the workers went out on strike for almost a month.

Wow!

Well today I'm driving nothing. Flattest flat ever on the Jetta. Ugh.

I seriously admire the depreciation period here. In your experience, does custom ordering allows enjoying car longer? Could it be the secret to keeping the car for 24 years?

My father always ordered cars from the factory. He figured that cars coming down the line on a special order get a bit more attention than cars built to inventory.

My entire family has had very good luck with cars. My first car was the car my father bought when I was 6 months old. He had given it to my sister who drove it through grad school and then passed it on to me just before I got my license. My father ordered a 1983 Old 98 and he sold it to someone local in 1998 and he said he still sees the car around the area sometimes.

When I first talked to the rep at Tesla after placing my order she asked if I would be trading in a car and I told her you guys won't want a 24 year old car. I may have the biggest jump in value of anybody buying a Model S (except the few for whom it's their first car).

I am hoping to find a Roadmaster enthusiast to take the car and give it a good home. It is in good shape and I wouldn't want to see it scrapped just because I am moving on to something else. It never was a popular car here in the Northwest, but there are a number of enthusiasts back east who keep the old iron running.

Any reason why you opted out of the sub zero package?

So my story is a bit unusual. I am 31 years old with incurable cancer that is progressing, and a 1.5 year old son who just had a liver transplant and still needs a kidney transplant. The Tesla Model S was my dream car, and after paying off the house and a few years of saving up we finally had enough money to order the Model S this month. So my wife said to go for it.

When we went to the Tesla store the sales guy ironically happened to be a guy my wife and I went to high school with and had already been following our story. Him and his manager hooked us up with all kinds of swag for me and my son before we even ordered the car. He has also worked hard with the delivery guy to get our car moved up in the production line, which he did since ours entered production last week. They said we will get ours before most of the showrooms even do.

The delivery guy said that it should be in production for about a week, and then they are trying to arrange for a truck to deliver the car to Chicago. He said that if a truck is available it should take less than a week to deliver it (so I'd probably get it next week), or about 2.5 weeks if they have to do it by train.

Needless to say they are pulling all kinds of strings to try and get us the car as soon as possible. We ordered a Model S 90D fully loaded (except for the extra seats).

To top it all off they gave us a red Model S P90D to drive a week ago for a few days, and they are giving it to us again for this weekend while we wait for ours to be delivered (they are going to try and give us the one Model X that they have, but aren't sure if that will be available). I didn't ask for them to do any of this... they volunteered it. They told me to put as many miles on it as we want as long as it comes back with at least a mile left on the battery.

Order date: 4/13
Confirmation/VIN date: 4/21
Production started: 4/28

My estimated delivery date on the website is still May/Early June, but they said May 31st should be the latest I'd get it (as long as there is no unforeseen issues). I know this is an expensive car, but I'm still blown away by how awesome everyone at Tesla has been.

This is so awesome. I am really jealous that your car started before mine though!! I am glad that you are getting your car to enjoy! Tesla customer service is great and I'm glad they are taking care of you!

So glad to hear that Tesla is a company that cares about their customers. That is decent and good business. I hope you enjoy the heck out of your new car! Let us know if you get the X for a few days and all the details!

Good question!

Even though I live in the midwest where snow and ice are not infrequent in the winter months, the package did not seem like much of a benefit for me. I rarely have back seat passengers so the rear heated seats would not be used very often. Heated front seats are standard. I've had heating steering wheels in the past and not used them. With the remote start capability I can get the car warmed up before I'm ready to go. I would have paid extra for front ventilated seats!
