Wiki Model S Delivery Update

Well, as I mentioned in the post above I picked up our P100D. What an incredible car!!! I didn't even put the car in Ludicrous mode, still crazy fast. Overall the delivery specialist was very nice. She seemed very knowledgeable and sat in the back seat while my wife and I sat up front. She went step by step through all the screen functions. So much info to remember.......I expect it will take a couple weeks of driving to get more comfy with everything.

There was one problem we had. There is a scratch that is about 2" long right in the middle of the rear bumper. It runs from side to side and can't be buffed out. They apologized and sent me a text as soon as they noticed it while prepping the car. I just don't know how well they will be able to touch it up. They are going to make arrangements for me to bring it back when they have a tech person that specializes in this type of work. They gave both my wife and I very nice winter jackets as an I'm very sorry gift (which was very nice). I guess I will just wait and see how good they do with touching it up.

A couple things I noticed on the car and don't know if this is normal? Anyone have any info on #1 and #2 below? Or opinions on what I should do about the scratch situation?

1) There seems to be a little bit of very high pitched noise from time to time when staying at a constant speed or slightly pressing on the gas peddle. It isn't obnoxious but noticeable from time to time with everything else turned off. Anyone else ever notice anything like this?

2) After getting out of the car in the garage and closing the door I heard a noise that kind of suprised me. After about ten seconds after the car shut down there was a fairly loud noise that sounded like plastic gears grinding? Should there be any noises with the car shutting down?

Oh, not sure if it is on the checklist for what you should be looking for when picking up your Tesla but check the steering wheel. I didn't notice because I was to wrapped up in the whole "I can't believe I am picking up a Tesla P100D" but the alignment is off. While driving straight down the road the steering wheel is tilted about 3%-5% off center to the left. I noticed because the T in the middle of the steering wheel was tilting to the left. So, make sure to check that the T is straight up and down when the front wheels are facing straight ahead.

Thanks,
Thanks for adding to the checklist of what to look for: also check the steering column! I was suppose to get delivery of my P100D tomorrow from the Seattle center, but the DS called me late today to say it will be delayed (again) . This time he said they found a scratch in the bumper (front?) that required them ordering a new replacement bumper. It pushes the delivery out another 10-14 days! So far they will have had my full cash for almost a month by then! The DS said "they would make it up to me". ... we shall see.

There really are no reasons they can't keep the disabled spots clear. I don't care how many deliveries there were that day. The spots are there for a reason, people need them.

My wife and I just picked up our P100D, model S today in downtown Chicago. I am in a wheelchair, a paraplegic for more than 30 years. If you don't mind me asking does your husband have any difficulty getting in the car? Did you get a model S or X? I love both but the S is tight getting in and out.

Good Luck.

Yes, I agree that they should leave the disabled spots free.

My husband is also a paraplegic (27 years for him). We have a Model S and he is having a hard time transferring in and out on the passenger's side. It is a wider distance from the door to the seat than any of our other cars and there is not much to hold onto. Do you have hand controls? If so, were there any issues installing them? We haven't gotten ours yet, but will do that soon. I think it will be easier for him to get in and out on the driver's side, because he can use the steering wheel to help.

Found out my Tesla won't be delivered in 2016 after all (confirmed order on 11/27). :( Apparently it came out of production a few days ago and looked promising for a December 31st delivery, but then a final quality inspection found something requiring attention, so now they are saying the first week of January. Also means the tax credit will have to wait a year, and even though I'm taking delivery in 2017, the car is still a 2016 since that was when it completed manufacturing (not a huge deal).

Does anyone in Seattle have recommendations on XPEL or 3M? I talked with Imperial Tint & Wrap in Bellevue, but would like some personal recommendations as I heard the most important thing is the workmanship of the installer.

I was able to take delivery from the factory so I purchased it in 2016 but won't see it till Tuesday when they drop it off at my house. Little worried about issues doing that but nice to have the tax credit sooner.

Magoo406:

Seeing that you are in Montana they should give you and your family winter jackets like they did for us, a nice touch. Did they say how big the scratch was? They said that they were going to order touchup paint for the one on our rear bumper. Not sure how I feel about that? Part of me says it is a 2ish inch scratch and touchup paint will be okay. The other part of me says we just spent $160,000 (with taxes/doc fee) and they should have it done right like they are doing for you. I guess I will wait to see how good the touchup job does? Is it still noticeable, if so then they should either kick back the amount it will cost to repaint the bumper cover, about $2,000ish based on my experience.

Good Luck.

That may be the "emergency" (parking) brake. It is gear driven and it clamps down on the rear wheel brake disks.

Thanks for your input....I didn't know the emergency brake automatically sets when you walk away from the car. Is that something from the factory and sets the ebrake no matter what after you walk away from the car or is that a ting in the controls?

Thanks.

#1, Yes, the electric motors have a small high-pitched whine to them. All electric cars have this as well as most of the hybrid cars.

#2, My car does some strange clunking after parking it in the garage. At first I wondered what it was, but now I just accept it as it does it every day right after I plug it in.

Thank for your reply....so much to learn. As Magoo406 pointed out it may be the EBrake setting after leaving the car? I will check it out next time I go out.

The high pitched whine I didn't even notice until almost an hour of driving. Maybe because I had the upgraded audio system turned up learning about Slacker. I just wish when you select Album would mean exactly that. Instead it plays only one or two tracks from the album.

Take Care

Picked up my car today. The car had some coating issues and I had them to clean/polish it 3 times. They have so many cars to be delivered today so they didn't spend much time with me. Looks like they hired people from the street to just get us out of the place.

Now I need help from the group here. Please help:

1). I don't have AP at all right now. I was told that it will be coming soon. I understand AP2 is not fully available yet but AP1 is not included at all.

2). People at the place told me that I shouldn't be using SC as much because it can degrade the performance of the battery. Is it true?

3). While I was waiting for the car to be washed, I spent some time to understand how the service is done. They said that they prefer to send people to service my car. How is that different the Ranger service?

So far, I love the drive/feel of the car. Hoping I can get AP soon.

Hell no! Maybe it was due to the hectic schedule there but this is nonsense. Charging to 100% all the time can degrade the battery, unless of course you have a 60kwh :) But tesla won't tell you that.

That is what I thought as well. I have a S75 and I have set it to 80% for my daily commute usage. After I explained the same to her, she is still insisting that SC will degrade the battery life. I think Tesla is asking people to stop using SC so they don't need to build more SC centers...

The delivery specialist team really needs to have a giant conference call on this with Tesla executives so they iron the message into all new orders that these functions are disabled. It's getting so prevalent on these forums, Reddit, etc.. What I thought was the norm for Tesla owners (reading the forums) is just not true. A lot of the people ordering Tesla's are too busy to read every fine point and then receive delivery without hearing anything about the software being disabled.
