Wiki Model S Delivery Update

As one of those people with a 2020 reservation, who sold their car in anticipation of an early 2021 delivery, and now has a ‘blank’ delivery time, this was a gut punch.

I’ll speculate that there is some unmet regulatory issue at play here. Tesla has a reputation for using customers as beta testers. If they’ve built hundreds of these cars and have them ready to deliver, that would be the only reason not to start selling June 3.

Not shocking it got pushed back to the 10th. Speculation on my part, but perhaps it has to do with the yoke, no stalks, etc. we don’t even know if some of that stuff is legal or not....someone correct me if you know otherwise. Just because the yoke is in a car they are testing, can they still mass produce it and sell it to customers? And the car selecting the gears for you....I know the other day I was in a parking spot and I had to reach back to help my daughter with something in the back seat. The car was in park, but I accidentally hit the gas pedal and the motor rev’d up. What would of happened if that was the Tesla is what I am wondering....🧐

And add swirls to the paint and greasy hand prints in the interior after putting tire shine on..

Ask me how I know...
Just wait till y'all see the latest gabeincal video. Those cars that have been sitting there are caked with dirt. Some have had their windshield wipers run and you can see how dirty they are. They better be nice to those cars when they wash them.

They will be as nice to those cars as they have been to us that are buying them...

For some of you new timers…..us old timers aren’t surprised at all and actually expected it. Here’s an infamous Twitter post that went down in proverbial history…

No company is perfect - or even close. However, in all my vehicle purchases over the years, Tesla has had the worst experience so far. My want of the car keeps me going - the hope that it will be half as good as everyone here says keeps me from going somewhere else. But at some point, it stops being a test of patience and becomes a warning sign. Not saying I am there yet, but this is just draining. Sorry for being so dramatic...

That would be driver error and nothing to do with Tesla.

I'm probably in the best position here. I sold my car in December, with a plan of buying a Model S in March. Then they raised the price on me by $12k. I then planned to settle for a M3P, but after test driving a M3, I realized that was not going to do. So I made a plan to just save some additional money and buy a MS in September.

The September purchase was based on the 10-14 week delivery window. In April, when I saw how poorly the delivery schedule was going, I ordered the MS, banking on the feeling I wouldn't see it till September anyhow. So as long as I get my car by September, I'm still ahead of schedule. Pretty sad that I was able to successfully plan on them lying about the delivery time.

Have the same radar/laser detector. Had a V1 for years but the Escort Max 360 is the bomb. Works well. 👍🏻
Same, but I had two V1s. Funny how Escort was saying the arrows were no big deal while on patent, and as soon as Mike's patent expires, Escort adds the feature! The combo of arrows and GPS falsie memory is the bomb, though, Too bad Mike didn't do that.

I recall phoning Valentine for tech support once, and the guy who picked up the phone goes, "Valentine, this is Mike!". Gotta love it.

I’m there. It’s becoming really obvious there’s some REAL *sugar* going on behind the scenes. No way in hell I’m taking delivery the first delivery date that’s offered to me.

Really hoping the June guinea pigs have a great experience, but it honestly feels like we’re on the bleeding edge with this one

Yeah but the point is we have spent our entire lives knowing neutral is safe. If there is no neutral, there are definitely going to be quite a few people accelerating by accident while trying to reach something in the back seat etc. This will be really bad for people with multiple vehicles.

Every time I drive my wife's SUV, I turn on the wipers trying to shift from the column, like my truck. Lets hope the gearless Tesla doesn't create a whole bunch of embarrassing accident headlines.

I agree, that’s my point. Even though you can say it could perhaps be “driver error.” The fact there might not be a known safe zone like in neutral or park could cause some problems down the road....which wasn’t by driver choice but rather how the car was designed. I like the concept and excited to try it, but I think these very “futuristic/jump the gun/over engineered” type features could have some drawbacks. And my speculation is perhaps this is part of the delay. Never heard final answers from NHTSA.
