Wiki Model S Delivery Update

And how are you “guaranteed” that Tesla will in fact change the lights for model year 2022? And even if Elon tweets that new front and/or rear lights are coming for the 2022 MS…don’t you think that could change or be delayed? Just posing these questions since I think we all know the answers despite being in denial. With Tesla, nothing is certain. If I were you, I would take delivery of what you have already ordered. But it’s your choice.
Tesla doesn't do "model years". They make changes all the time whenever the parts are ready.
Every week the cars change. Next week they'll be different.
It's futile to try and time your purchase.

Ditto. That is why they will fulfill recent order for $10k more first, rather than an order placed 9 months ago.
I still have yet to see any direct evidence that it is the 10k increase rather than supply shortages. Is it possible that an order was cancelled / rejected after a car shipped to a location, and that car just went to the next person on the list in the area with the exact same config? Sure. Are there other odd situations where someone got to cut the line? Almost certainly...

But I have yet to see a pattern (or even a single instance) where Tesla is putting folks who ordered the exact same config post-price hike in front of those that ordered early on...

Until we see evidence to show this, we should really put an end to this rumor. There are plenty of actual reasons to criticize TSLA, but prioritizing recent orders over their most loyal customers is not one of them...

(not that it should matter... but no, I don't own any TSLA stock)

I did not ask, sorry! I’m thinking it’s only for a subset of LR that live in cold climates, but that’s just a guess. The Tesla post-delivery tech did write at one point that “performance “ vehicles (which I equated to Plaid) were supposed to get Summer and “non performance “ vehicles (which I equated to LR) were supposed to get AS. But for non cold climates there would be no reason to give them AS, right?
What is a "non cold climate"? I live in CA (NorCal - Bay Area) and require all season. I go to Tahoe multiple times per year.
So I reached out to my SA and he "confirmed" that my MS LR 19" will be delivered with all season tires. Of course I'm skeptical, but at least thanks to you @GrnSqrl we have a case for asking for a swap to all season if they aren't delivered with them!

Update: They attempted to move the delivery back 2 days as I was calling my uber to go over to the dealership. They said they need a paint specialist to fix "sand marks" on the car. I told them I just want the car and they can fix those at a later appointment. They agreed to compromise and do a delivery in the late afternoon today. As further context, I purchased one of the cars that came up randomly in Tesla's inventory a week or so ago, after seeing someone post about it on this forum. My original order from 2/5 was dropped for this one, which has a similar configuration (Plaid / Black / Cream / CF / 21). However, this one's VIN is in the "430" range so it's likely (?) one of the cars that was sitting in the lot. I will find out later, hopefully.

Got my Plaid this afternoon! After a short 35 mile drive from the delivery center, I have some first impressions.

- Tesla's delivery experience is a joke, which we all put up with because the car is anything but. There wasn't a single proactive inbound call from Tesla related to scheduling delivery of this car. Only call-backs over the last week. When I did show up to my delivery, they were finishing detailing the car. I peeked at it and noticed the car had a white interior, which is what I originally ordered but since I replaced my original order with an inventory car with cream seats, that made no sense. Apparently they replaced the seats! I have no clue if this was an error or a favor, but I somehow ended up with the exact configuration I wanted: Plaid / Black / White / Carbon / 21. Happy day! I spent a total of 25 minutes picking up my car.

- I had to sit in traffic on the way back so didn't get to floor it, then conveniently was first at a red light at a pretty wide road near my house. When I did, I started cracking up uncontrollably, just like I did when I bought my first Tesla, a Model 3 Performance. This thing is an aggressive beast; you can feel it overpowering gravity. I also got a chance to accelerate a bit on sections of the highway and experienced just what I've read from others on this forum, that you get a head rush going from 50-80, which is not the case with my M3P.

- The yoke felt quite natural, and even better than a steering wheel, when driving on the highway. Gives a nice feeling of control. I had to do a multi-point turn to back into my driveway and that's where it was less convenient than a wheel. I imagine I'll adjust, and I ultimately don't care compared to how cool it looks to me -- not to mention the added visibility it gives -- but that was one drawback I noticed.

- The seat managed to be just as comfortable as my Model 3 white vegan leather seat, which is the most comfortable seat I've ever driven in. It feels slightly wider and more captain-like, shall we say?

- Miscellaneous bits: The new UI is fantastic. Love the door handles (I haven't ever driven an S). Interior is gorgeous and feels well appointed. Sound system felt fine, didn't stand out. Excited to try out the rear screen.

Congratulations and thanks for the initial impressions. It's really weird about the change from a cream to a white interior but if that is what you really wanted, congrats again!

The car is gorgeous. Did they deliver it without the front license plate holder or did you take it off as soon as you got home?

Also, how did he manage to get a photo with no display on/button controls visible?

FAKE TESLA! FAKE!

You may be one of the first (non-Plaid-Day) deliveries with WHITE seats! 👍🏻🔥🙏😎 Glad to see the white/cf interior cars are coming! Hopefully mine is one of the next ones; oh wait…still need a VIN, lol! 😜. Maybe in the next few days as my account still remains at 9/20-9/30. Thank you for the write up and congrats! Beautiful!!!

This has been discussed many times: of course they have model years. It's right there in the VIN. Now, they also do incremental changes as you describe -- far more than most/all other car companies. But for resale and insurance purposes (at least) there are definitely model years.

IIRC, these days the model year transition is in October (based on build date, of course). So you'd probably want to take delivery in November? December would be safe, probably.

But delaying just to get an unsignaled change in a particular part (like the lights) is probably nine miles of bad road. Though I completely agree that the tail lights are wildly overdue for a cosmetic update, and a missed opportunity to indicate that these new cars are something special. The headlights, I think, are still the same part used pre-refresh, and therefore don't stand up to what our friends in M3/Y enjoy. Sigh.

Well folks, it’s almost a reality. Just got a delivery date. Next Saturday, 9/11. 12pm!

Car is in Chi-Town Tesla depot. Then off to I think Ridgewood NJ Tesla Depot, then to Devon, PA by the 8th. the guy woke the red baby up for me, to see where it was. Then got an email from my elusive SA an hour later asking which day time is good for delivery.

Also, not sure if anyone has done this for financing, but I’m possibly going with Franklin Mint FCU as they have 1.99% financing for 2021 or newer cars. We’ll see if i can get that rate.

So now to take pics of my Stealth 3 and try to sell it asap.
