So, I took delivery of my MSLR on August 02, my first Tesla vehicle.
While I had expected certain things from reading these boards, I have to say I was less than impressed with the whole delivery process. On arrival I checked in and was asked “You have watched the videos”, I had. I was then told “Your car is the one over there with the flashers going, go and have a look at it and when you are done, come back and sign the paperwork”. Not quite what I was expecting as I would have thought that someone would have at least come out and done the walkthrough with me.
All in all the car was in excellent condition, all mats and covers, with only two issues that were noted. The front passenger seat had a major scuff on the headrest, which will be replaced, and a trim panel by the rear passenger seat did not seem to be in place and will also be replaced (service appointment booked for August 8, the SC moved it to August 16 to allow for parts to arrive). The rear passenger door is very slightly out of alignment but it closes properly, seals well and I really don’t want them playing with the hinges. While I was inspecting the car my trade-in was dealt with, licence plates removed, etc.
After inspecting the car I went back in to report what I had found as well as accept and pay for the car. The issues were noted and, after I signed the paperwork I was given the key cards (no fobs) and told it would take about 10 minutes as he would go and take pictures of the issues, upload them along with the paper work and, once that was done, he would come out and give me the thumbs up and I would be good to leave.
Driving home the Autopilot cameras calibrated within, I would say, the first 10km as I was driving on a 4 lane, divided highway however I was not able to activate anything other than traffic aware cruise control until I stopped and was in park, which I didn’t do until I got home.
While on the highway, the noise cancellation was basically unnoticeable, I had turned it on, but I didn’t play with it turning it off and on again. Once I got off the highway and was driving on a secondary road however I noticed a loud, high pitched whine, that seemed to emanate from the left front wheel, so much so that I was almost going to turn back to the SC. Once I turned off the noise cancellation however, the whine went away and then came back when I turned it back on. I am not sure what caused it, however I will have to play with it more to decide if it worth having on or not. XM radio also seems to be intermittent, at least with it turned on, so I will try it with it off and see if there it a difference.
I am still waiting from some of the additional cameras to calibrate after a little under 200km (125 miles) in order to use the auto lane change function of Navigate on Autopilot, auto park, Summon, etc, which I am hoping they will do next week when I have a little more of a drive on a 6 lane divided highway.
All in all I am impressed with the car, the yoke took a lot less getting used to that I though it would, although I will still admit to reaching for the turn signal stock on occasion and I am going to need some more practice getting it into and out of parking spots. It is a wide vehicle and takes a lot more care to thread it through my garage door.
