Model S/X Refresh UK Waiting Room

Deliveries may start soon, but a new order might be a while. It depends how long they can get through the backlog. No sign at the moment, the best guess based on usual eu to uk lag is 3 quarters so maybe they’ll start delivering in Sept, but it’s total guesswork.

Is there any news on new Model X to the UK. Wife says our Model Y is too harsh and has to go. She loves everything about the Tesla except the ridiculous suspension. If we can't get a new Model X, we might have to get a used one, but reluctant.
Ditto - that's why we're waiting for the X too (although there are other things we don't love but can live with it). That said as I understand it there is revised suspension in the US on the Y so maybe that will improve things. The current setup is unforgivable for a car in this price bracket.

I was in Tesla Leeds on Thursday as my 2017 Model S Heater blew up... £1100 bill so I asked if they knew anything about my Model X order (August 2021) they said 2023 might be possible! Highly re-assuring.

Today I looked the Taycan, EQE, EQS & BMW IX... I don't really want to jump ship from my Model X order but If the Model S gives me any more hassle I think I might.

Merc & Genesis seem to be able to deliver in weeks, BMW 2 months.... Range Rover were at least honest and said their PHEV is 24 months.. Tesla is Unknown....

Waiting patiently.....

Last year I had a ride in the back of an earlier Model Y as a taxi in Netherlands and despite their pretty good roads I couldn't wait to get out. The ride was probably the worst I've experienced on a car for a long time.

We test drove a Model 3 Performance and a Model Y LR in December last year and it was completely different. The Model Y LR suspension was quite nice and comfortable on our roads. They've also improved the suspension on the Model 3's and the Model 3 Performance for reference I felt was a bit more comfortable still than the Model Y LR but not a massive amount in it. In the end we went with a Model 3 Performance as while the extra space is nice, the wife just doesn't like a big car or well more the extra width of the Y. Just saying though I think you'd be fine in a new Model Y, it's a night and day difference.

Is that the first replacement?

Had mine replaced under warranty back in early 2020 (just before pandemic hit), but the car was barely over 2 years old. I wasn’t impressed at the time.

Saying that there’s been a rash of issues with the HV heaters going in Taycans. Some not even getting through PDI before they let go.

So not necessarily just a Tesla weakness.

I’m not really concerned about the powertrain and battery on these cars as they approach middle age.

I’m budgeting for half shafts and CVs soon which I think is fair enough.

Air suspension would be good to know if a decent Indy can sort out when the dampers begin to leak and age. Think I’m getting close.

Also falcon-wing door actuators and all round door seals etc. will be interesting to see how they go, as the car lives outside and generally does around 15k miles a year.

We don’t baby it, but it doesn’t get totally abused either.

The local independent tells me X suspension is basically Merceds parts so easy to repair, as is the actual suspension- apparently all pretty standard stuff.

FWDs on our X feels like the most 'solid' part or the car, ours will be 6 years old this year and rear seats in constant use, never had any issues with FWDs.

Our X is treated like a family hack, because it is. Tip runs, holiday runs, scraping into bushes on Devon back roads.....I would post a picture but hasn't been washed/cleaned since the Norway holiday in summer. Pig stye isn't quite enough to describe the interior at present.

Overall reliability is OK for such a complex car. No interest in a new one, too much ££££ to waste on a car these days as we have finally started the house build so 'cash flow' will soon be a real issue :).

If really needed I'll chop in the X and transport the family around in the soon to be 20 year old Mazda 6. To be honest the Mazda gets the family from A to B and carries just as much stuff as the X for much less ££££ and hassel (it's still yet to require any 'repair', even the CD player still works!). Houses > Cars every time when it comes to priorities.

Cheers @gangzoom for the info above.

Agreed if we’re supposed to be ecologically minded these days, makes no sense to me to trade in this beastie until a few more years. Hopefully no tears with big repair bills 🤞

Good luck with the house. We did a major rebuild a few years ago. Great now, but at the time our works straddled the pandemic lockdowns and with all the hassles and drain on our finances, it wasn’t something I was in a hurry to repeat. The wounds are healed now. Pretty much 🤣

I think that was based on his all input is error nonsense. He was equally adamant there would be no wheel option on the S/X.
Not sure you even need to merge the data but use radar as a backup for instance. Car thinks via vision that nothing is infront of you, radar says your going to crash if you don't slow down then in my experience Radar is pretty accurate so you brake the car. Obviously you'll be taking multiple samples so in the case of Vision maybe that's 60 times per second so would be something like:

Second 1 = Vision -> All Clear, Radar -> Something 50 seconds from impact
Second 2 = Vision -> All Clear, Radar -> Something 49 seconds from impact
Second 3 = Vision -> All Clear, Radar -> Something 48 seconds from impact

Car takes action and slows down to avoid an impact. So vision is your primary driving means, no need to merge radar data. Radar is merely there as a backup incase there's something vision isn't picking up correctly to save your ass. Like maybe sun is causing some vision issues but not enough it's disabled. It's a bit too dark and vision again not disabled but is struggling and misses something.

Honestly when your life is at some point going to be in the cars hands (Long way off), having a backup system seems a no brainer to me.
