Guys let’s all take a chill pill. People in Ukraine are dying by the thousands and we are worried about retrofitting. Let’s get our sh-t together , realize the world has bigger issues and move on.

Retrofit? Great.
No retrofit? Great.

Not to minimize the situation in Ukraine, but “dying by the thousands”? I hope that was meant as hyperbole. Otherwise it’s just spreading more false information.

Yes it was hyperbole to state a point.
And yes by the end of this it could very well be this. It’s war…causalities are inevitable.

The main point being let’s get off our high horses and realize there are current issues far greater than this. Just providing some perspective.

After the National Archives confirmed on Friday that Donald Trump brought classified national security documents to Mar-a-Lago, the former president issued a long, rambling response, insisting the controversy was unimportant. But toward the end of the written tirade, the Republican added an unrelated thought, seemingly in passing.
Trump was apparently trying to argue that he didn’t have time to worry about tasks such as presidential records keeping. He was, Trump added, “too busy making sure Russia didn’t attack Ukraine.”
How subtle. The former president wants the public to know Vladimir Putin didn’t invade Ukraine during his term — unlike the current U.S. president.
There’s been plenty of related chatter of late in Republican circles. Putin targeted Georgia during George W. Bush’s tenure, Crimea during Barack Obama’s terms, and all of Ukraine after Joe Biden became president, but the Russian autocrat’s ambitions were restrained during Trump’s time in the White House. This, the right tells us, should be seen as proof of … something.
National Review’s Rich Lowry made the case via Twitter last night, “The sheer unpredictably of Trump, his anger at being defied or disrespected, his willingness to take the occasional big risk (the Soleimani strike), all had to make Putin frightened or wary of him in a way that he simply isn’t of Joe Biden.”
That’s certainly one way of looking at recent events, though it’s probably not the best way.
It’s important to acknowledge what motivates the Russian leader. The Atlantic’s Anne Applebaum summarized matters nicely a few weeks ago:
[Putin] wants to put so much strain on Western and democratic institutions, especially the European Union and NATO, that they break up. He wants to keep dictators in power wherever he can, in Syria, Venezuela, and Iran. He wants to undermine America, to shrink American influence, to remove the power of the democracy rhetoric that so many people in his part of the world still associate with America. He wants America itself to fail.
It led The Washington Post’s Jennifer Rubin to add yesterday, “Trump’s foreign policy sought to do much of what Putin wants to achieve, including intimidating Ukraine by withholding vital defensive weapons.”
Quite right. Putin wanted to undermine the NATO alliance, and Trump undermined the NATO alliance. Putin wanted to weaken the E.U., and Trump made little effort to express his disdain for the E.U. Putin wanted to weaken the U.S. political system, and Trump was unnervingly aggressive in trying to weaken the U.S. political system.
Putin wanted to hurt Ukraine, and Trump launched an extortion scheme that threatened to hurt Ukraine.
Why didn’t the Russian leader deploy troops into Ukraine during Trump’s term? Perhaps because Putin was so pleased with an American president who pursued goals in line with Moscow’s agenda.
Had Putin launched an invasion, it risked upsetting the course he was already delighted to see. Why would the Russian leader get in the way of the progress Trump was already delivering.
During the Obama years, the right wingers used to constantly rend their garments over Obama allegedly “apologizing” for America. “How unpatriotic” they cried! “How can you hate American so much!”

Trump told Putin and anyone who would listen that the US is a weak and stupid country over and over again and said “I alone can fix it” which any sentient being could see was laughable. He said NATO was obsolete and the only thing he ever did was whine about their “dues” being overdue. He took Putin’s word over his own intelligence community and refused to send military assistance to Ukraine unless they sabotaged Joe Biden’s presidential campaign.

He is the most disloyal president in American history.

Digby said.

While you’re so worried about having matrix headlights, 16 young children - boys and girls - have died in Ukraine. Even more are severely injured. How can you think about headlights when this is happening?
It's utterly inappropriate to call him out about discussing what this forum is built for.

We're all upset about Ukraine. If you only want to focus on that topic, you are 100% in the wrong place.

600 to 1 mil died in Iraq because of our invasion and it's devastating when this sort of thing happens. We didn't stop or slow down then much. We have to honestly do the best we can to help the situation personally and politically.

And then for a pleasant diversion, we come here to this space. Let us have our pleasant diversion.

I, like many folks on this forum, have ordered a Model Y over 3 months ago and have seen my EDD date slip 3 times already. Today, I went out to www.edmunds.com to look at Tesla Model Ys and noticed about 30 cars with less than 500 miles. I then noticed about 12 MY that seemed to have gone from Tesla Delivery straight to the dealership and selling for $10k over buying the car directly from Tesla. What is interesting about this is that dealerships seem to have a couple of cars that are practically new and are selling for used. Thus, not only are they getting you on the price of the car, they are charging you a higher interest rate if you finance. Meanwhile, there are folks in this forum that have placed their orders in June and have not received their VINs yet. This is obviously not Tesla's fault. The greedy dealerships

I am reaching out to everyone on this board to see if there is any course of action that we can take to report this issue.

To bad Brandon is no longer allowing the $7500 tax credit, otherwise most would buy from Tesla instead of those greedy dealerships 😲🤣😂

Here we go again, another highly misinformed poster...This is really going to belong in policy / political type chat but here we go anyhow.

The tax credit certainly applied to Tesla's, just like every EV / PHEV, until they hit the 200k qualifying vehicle sales cap. That expired at the end of 2020 for Tesla. This would make our former "president" the one that [sic] "is no longer allowing" . That administration and his party had zero interest in renewables. The current President and his party attempted and failed to pass a bill that would have restored tax credits. Again zero help from the party of "the other guy".

Yeah... too bad "Brandon" is no longer allowing the tax credit.

Of course, the law written years before "Brandon' took office, set a sales limit cap, which Tesla and GM have now exceeded, which is why buyers of those cars are no longer able to receive a tax credit. Once manufacturers sell above 200,000 vehicles, they're no longer eligible.

And if "Brandon's" Build back better bill had passed, which NO repub voted for, Tesla buyers would have again received a $7500 discount, but instead of a tax "credit", which only reduced your tax bill up to $7500 in Federal Taxes , you would have actually received a check for any of the tax credit you weren't able to utilize, because your tax bill was below $7,500...so all buyers, regardless of what they owed in taxes, would have received a full $7500.

But hey...let's blame "Brandon", cause, you know... facts?!?

I really don't know how people that contort the facts like this can walk and talk simultaneously. It must be fairly exhausting.
It's fine if they want to walk around ignorant, and vote against their own interests, but do they really have to display their ignorance on boards unrelated to politics?

Can't we have a few places where we aren't divided?

Sheesh.

I'm never sure whether to feel anger or pity for people that live in this "post fact" echo chamber. Apologies for the walking and talking shot, it wasn't necessary.

Things have changed since Putin invaded Ukraine. Instead of focusing on the expensive Green New Deal to protect the environment, the new challenge is to produce our own domestic oil, instead of sending $Billions to Russia to fund their war of expansion.

The EV credit was part of a multi $Trillion Build Back Better plan that tended to fund Liberal ideals. Believe the EV credit could not easily be passed as a stand alone bill, but not if packaged with lots of unfunded other stuff.

Many governments are using a combination package of restrictions on sales of ICE, higher fuel taxes and incentives to produce EVs to wean us off hydrocarbons.
