Rear ended today. 3-4 month wait - parts not available.

Just to update the thread for anyone following along. Today is 1 day short of 2 months. Tesla Body Shop support finally got back to me after 3 emails with no response over 3 days. My repair shop wasn't getting anything from them as well. Here is the exact response (the original person I was dealing with was named "Drago"...yes I know it sounds like a Bond villain!):

"I do apologize for the delay in getting back to you. Drago ended up moving into a new position and I was just given your case.
I checked in with my parts and manufacturing team and was informed that these last two part orders will be shipped to our distribution center this week and to your body shop by the end of next week.
I'm waiting on a ship date confirmation and as soon as I have that I will forward that information on.. including tracking information as it's made available. "

Now trust me...I'd love for it to be end of this week...but I'll take end of next week if I can get it. So we can say Tesla went from 1 year...to 6 months...to 9 weeks? It's improving. ;)

The response would still indicate communication issues within Tesla that need work. Again, I'm not trying to post this to beat up Tesla as a company, but only to offer feedback to help them improve. MXWing posted a good question earlier about if this would impact your decision to buy Tesla knowing this going in. I think I'd still get it, but I'll tell you what. If I have another accident with it...and go through the same process? I'd really have to say probably not. It's a pretty massive pain being without your car for over 2 months.

Need to put Elon on blast!
Everyone who is suffering because of parts delay should chip in and make a TV ad warning potential buyers what to expect if they were ever in a crash.
Let see how fast Tesla gets on it then.

I would do it in a heartbeat.

I would be willing to fly to wherever Elon is and just try and plead with him how horrible having a Tesla that was run into is. There is scarce support for current owners.

Elon is so separated from common people with real Tesla problems its a shame. He can't fix what he dosent' know.

No it isn't improving.

I'm so frustrated and beaten down......I'm quitting soon.

Looks like the explosive retractor went off in the accident. Presumably why the vehicle went inoperable.

I would not have expected this though as I am not sure why the automatic pre-tensioner would provide any benefit in this accident.

Maybe it is standard procedure to replace these (belt etc are also replaced) in any accident above a certain threshold?

Just some advice from my experiences x2. It's likely going to be at least 2 months. I would just try to get updates every week or every other week. I'd advise against daily updates -- you will tick off the body shop and tesla staff. Give them at least a few weeks for parts to roll in.

You shouldn’t need to worry about the parts list. That’s between the auto body shop and tesla to manage. All you have to do is make sure the right insurance people are involved (you have) and that’s that.

Yes, this situation sucks. But it happens every day - tens of thousands of cars are in the body shop every day.

Don’t let the frustration get to you (easier said than done, I know!)

I had a contractor doing work on my home accidentally smash the lift gate on my Cadillac last year. The pin fell out of their mason dump’s rear gate and it opened and smashed my car. Wasn’t worth getting mad over - we just dealt with it.

I’m sorry about this situation for you, but please don’t let it eat you up. Everyone is safe, healthy and not pushing daisies. Everything else is sheet metal - don’t let it affect your health!

I do disagree with not having to worry about the parts -- as had I not emailed Tesla about 2 missing parts -- my car would have taken significantly longer as they never arrived (but were shipped) to the body shop and had to be reshipped. However, some time is needed -- give it at least 2-3 weeks. Maybe, things have gotten a little better and you will be surprised -- but expect at least 2-3 months and if you get it back sooner -- even better.

Now the insurance company of Guilty is saying that they have to valuate my car and that will affect stuff.

No one is explaining what that means to me.

I can't do this anymore.

Possibly they’re thinking about declaring the vehicle a full loss? That, combined with a diminished value claim, wouldn’t be the end of the world. You might get to choose a brand new vehicle, claim another tax incentive, and move on. If it comes to that, I recommend hiring a private appraiser to help valuate the vehicle as it should be.

Don’t give up hope!! This’ll all turn out OK in the end.

If you’re an expert in body work, fantastic. But I genuinely don’t know an Asy-Rail Rr Upr from an M3-Rail Rear Lower

There comes a time where I have to trust the professional, and body work is one of them. I wouldn’t know what I’m looking at ....

There is absolutely no way they are going to give me the money I owe on the car if they total it out. I'm going to be out of thousands of dollars I don't have.

I won't be able to get to work.

I give up.

Just an FYI, I'm about to give up. Its too much for me to do by myself.

How much is the estimate?

This doesn’t seem too bad. 50ish parts...I guessed 40. Looks like they can take parts piecemeal and weld them/glue them back together for the rear trunk area, here is a parts diagram.

Rear End Panels - Tesla Lab

I guess your rear glass got damaged, and the seat belt stuff is the only stuff that was unexpected here.

Can you inquire (maybe with Tesla) as to why the car is not drivable? Did the seat belt pre-tensioner actually go off? It seems like with some robust plastic wrap to keep water out (may not even be a huge issue), you could drive it around and that takes a ton of the stress off here. You have your car, it will work fine (possibly with some nags due to broken parking sensors - and it may be possible to patch those up - probably not though), and you can just wait for parts. I know it is not ideal but may be better than the alternative.

Is the rear glass visibly damaged?

I give up.

You’d be surprised. That’s where the diminished value claim comes in. Thankfully the Model 3 values seem to be holding quite strong. Don’t give up, whatever you do!
