Starting to deliver Production P90D

Darryl,

I realize you have posted your assumed sequence multiple times before, yet I have never heard your source either. If it is like me, you are just making educated guesses based on tracker data and forum posts. Nothing wrong with that, but don't present it as if it's absolute fact. I doubt anyone except Tesla's production manager and those he reports to know for sure. I stand by my belief that once non-premium begins production, it will be prioritized the same as premium for 70D and 90D. The only reason for the current delay is they have not started producing the non-premium parts yet and are keeping their production mix simpler. Additionally, there are no data points that non-Autopilot delays orders as no one has ordered P90D+Premium without Autopilot on the tracker.

Fair disclosure: my 90D has premium and Autopilot so I don't have any personal gain from this stance.

So, I did a (very modest) analysis based on ModelXTracker data to see if there were biases to any particular config options, comparing ordered vs delivered ratios (last column).
The top of the list features some known detriments to earlier delivery times like Standard Drive Train (vs P), Onyx wheels, 70 kWh battery, etc.

But I (personally) hadn't come read about some of the items that seem to be under-indexing for delivery like 48 amp charging, Obsidian Black Metallic Paint, Standard Sound, etc.

A grain (if not a whole shaker) of salt here due to limited sample size and self-reported data, but perhaps a couple of these options are not "deal breakers" on earlier delivery dates but possibly have supply or quality control constraints.

YMMV...

(apologies for huge gap, likely introduced by table paste, no permission to edit)

I wouldn't read too much into that. There are only 5 data points for production deliveries so far versus nearly 60 for Signature/Founder. The latter automatically gets 72A charging, premium sound, and free upgrades to any interior trim. Also, a significant portion of those on the tracker ordered Signature Red, which means the other paint colors will have a lower number of deliveries.

The whole production sequence really suck and Tesla needs to do better at both communication and policy, because the current one is clearly confusing/not fair. Forget about 70 or 90D, Tesla can't even produce P90Ds that have no premium package! I have a P90D without Premium, reserved since early 2014 and guess what, people with P90D + premium who ordered late 2015 are skipping the line.

/Rant on
Imagine if you go to a restaurant and wait in line. There are certain expectations that for the most part, the tables will be available based on the sequence of waiting line. Occasionally, depending on your table preference, your wait maybe faster (i.e., people who are willing to sit at the bar maybe faster than party of 10 at a large table), which is analogous to the battery size delivery schedule...e.g., P90D>90D>70D, that's fair enough when you communicate this up front during the order process.

Now imagine if the restaurant start changing this expectation, and on top of table size/preference, people with seafood orders will be served faster than non-seafood, even if they just arrived at the restaurant. All of this without communicating to people who have waited for a long time.... Not very cool.

/Rant off

Not a bad analogy, but the difference is the type of restaurant you are waiting at. Tesla is French Laundry: considered by many as the best restaurant in the country with a wait list that books many many months into the future. Even getting a reservation is difficult as you often can't even get them on the phone (it's always busy). But because the food is so exquisite, people will wait. Sure you can go to McDonald's (GM) and get served faster, but you don't get something special. So even the disgruntled among us stay and wait and exalt in the special meal when our time comes. There is no other car on the planet like a tesla. Period. So we wait despite its problems.

Isn't auto pilot hw planned for installation on all cars and only software disabled? If so why would thy really factor into
Sequencing?

I think because the $2,500 they get for it is all profit precisely because it is just a software upgrade. They've already put sensors in, as you said and software change is free to them. If goal is to make highest margin cars first, AP is a high margin item and fits that strategy.

Just got a call from my DS, my MX (VIN 47x) is ready for pick-up in Fremont: P90D, 6 seats, premium + most options

Congratulations @Omarsultan, maybe you will have better luck than I by getting it at the factory. They rescheduled me three times and finally when I went to pick up there was a cracked port on the charger and I had to be rescheduled again. Next Thursday is the new day.

Please update ModelXTracker.com as you progress through the process.

Picking up VIN 38x tomorrow! Could have picked it up Saturday, but I wasn't available. Configured on 12/2/15, Midnight Silver, 7 seater (wish I got the 6), ultra white seats. Hoping to take it to the lake and take some nice pics with the city in the back.
