Supercharger - National Harbor, MD

I’m glad they picked the inner harbor. Good Highway location, a walk to restrooms perhaps far after sitting in rush hour. icing won’t be an issue at all, they tow people quick around there. Always a tow truck circling the inner harbor every few minutes with a ticketed car on it. Food may seem pricey to out of state travelers, but it’s a tourist trap with triple taxed beverages. The peeps store is a museum of sugar. Seasonal events all year. I think the issue will be all the fines for Tesla’s done charging. Do those restaurant pagers work that far? I would hope fully autonomous Tesla’s solve that problem soon. Go move themselves while you are stuck somewhere. I hope Elon enables fully autonomous mode free for all busy supercharges.

Off hour Safety may be a concern for some. Just the same as we don’t go to certain gas stations in the city. Everyone should always be aware of their surroundings at any charger. Well, physically aware always, anyplace D.C. to Baltimore, it’s just not that safe. the current safety issue with Arundel Mills casino chademo charger is that it’s located directly next to the inner city bus stop, gang members loitering 24/7 and fake empty security booths. Arundel Mills has been a huge draw for criminals since it opened. The local news says crime rates look artificially low, due to tourist volume, and suppressed reporting.

So all of this screams for destination charging, not road trip supercharging, which should be located within easy reach, quick stop and go with 24 hour convenience service. That is apparently impossible in the DC area as we've seen originally with Bethesda, and then with Woodbridge and Laurel, all destinations with lots of local traffic and challenging access and parking with no facilities available overnight.

Don't worry, the Model 3 is going to push destination charging growth exponentially. Including a growing likely hood that your family, friends and neighbors homes will have an EV connector.

Take the example of Myrtle Beach, NC. All the locals switched from gas to electric golf carts. So the whole town, almost every business, lot and house has plugs for charging them everywhere. Same thing happened back when gas cars became popular, gas stations everywhere. gas is less popular now(due to MPG increases not really EV's), so 2% of stations close every year in the US.

Not to mention, as business owners buy Model 3's, they will be inclined to install destination chargers at their place of business because they get it. It happened a lot with Model S/X, but Model 3 will be much more widespread. I know if I owned a business, I would put chargers there for sure. It actually bothers me when a new shopping center opens and they don't install chargers. A brand new Premium Outlets opened near me and no chargers. So disappointing and closed-minded.

It's under construction. Currently it is a paid through a kiosk/reserved lot. They've removed the dune grasses where the transformer, switches and superchragers will likely go, already have conduit laying around.

PGPD won't be enough, hopefully the Maryland State Police back them up at night! It's gotten so bad that PGPD just extended their hours due to the huge increase in crime. 10 killed this week - it's no joke.
When we checked into our hotel in National Harbor for our anniversary we knew something was up when they handed us a check-in sheet called a "no party" agreement (I'm 51!). Apparently, there's been trouble with large groups in rooms. Some of the terms where no hookah pipes, no firearms, no illegal drugs, no more than four people per room, no kegs, no drug paraphernalia, no motorcycles or mopeds in rooms!!!!!!! Freaking crazy - I wish I had taken a picture of it... the hotel was nice, but it got very interesting late night - good thing I enjoy people watching!!! This sealed the deal for us - the fight at MGM on opening night - not going back..

Is there anyway to tell if this is a new higher KW Supercharger? Or if they will have a solar canopy? When/where are they going to be deploying those? I know my vehicle has a max rate, but I really do see benefits from the A/B stalls having increased total available power during peak use. The solar canopies do help block solar heat, lowering the cars charging temp, to get a faster charge. I know in Florida heat my car charges slower, with the cooling fans already maxed out. Not sure why they don't have solar canopies either.

It might be interesting to see the charge rate difference between a white paint job, white interior, vs black on black paint. In today's 98 F temps.

The nearby casino multi-story parking garage has a section reserved for EV level 2 charging, clearly marked with ground paint and signs.
Last month when there I saw every EV spot occupied by an ICE vehicle, even though there was available parking elsewhere in the garage. The reason: the EV spots are next to the casino entrance, and used by folks that couldn't be troubled to walk an extra 50 feet.

A couple things for this thread, first I like you have seen the charging spots at MGM iced but I did go about a week ago and they had finally coned them off

Second that location is aweful since it's inside a paid parking lot. There is plenty of empty land where they could have put the chargers, like near the McDonald's, gas station, Tánger outlets, etc.

Was in the area again tonight so I stopped by to see if there was more progress.

Looks like they fenced off and dug out the area for the power equipment:

Have a transformer pad ready to go:

Have removed the dune grass where the stalls will be planted:

Not too shabby for a day worth of werk. It should all be ready in two Tesla weeks ;)

Not too crazy about the location they picked, behind a paid garage. Not only that , the garage is sometimes completely blocked by private events

Good area, wrong location. What are you supposed to do when your car is full and you need to move it? That parking lot is packed and sometimes used for private events. Some Tesla owners might charge and then disconnect and leave their car there which would be aweful. By the way parking rates at national harbor are ridiculous and should be comped for people who spend at the businesses. I was there for dinner the other day $12.

No motorcycles in room, too funny

The supercharger location is not inside the paid gated lot as we initially thought (also in a flood zone from the river), it is outside and slightly elevated from it. It is easily accessible from I-95/I-495/MD-295, etc. via a right turn at one traffic light.

The ChargePoints at Tangier get ICEd as well, there is no food court or restaurants there, and it is harder to get to through numerous busy traffic lights, bad idea for a supercharger.

The MGM ChargePoint layout and frankly the whole garage layout is a big head scratcher with the green markings and similarly looking Eco-Friendly Parking signs. The cones are gone and the ICE is back. The stations on P6 are already busted and you cannot easily move from one garage level to another, have to leave the garage and drive around. Also a bad idea for a supercharger as eventually parking there will be paid/restricted.
