I doubt it. New wiring harnesses, new bumper cover, maybe even new bumper. The current FSD board has input for two radars, but I don't know if they support interfacing of "high-resolution" radar or not.If radar is added back, like other Tesla components, can it just be popped in and connected followed by a firmware update?
Thank you

Registering something with the FCC would seem to me to have a higher potential of being released than patent applications. It is not happening until it is actually happening. Those "patent" rumors turned out to be all false anyway.
Of course. It would need Tesla service. And of course first production of hundreds of thousands of conversion kits. You're probably right, but even if the existing hardware fully supports it you still are restricted by the fact that Tesla's are not plug-and-play. You would most likely still need somebody at Tesla to make the configuration change for your car.
Looks like a substitute part for an obsolete unit for cars that still use radar, not a new application.New Tesla radar shows up on parts catalog.
I don't think so, this part uses Ethernet and the old radar sat on the CAN bus, so it's not compatible at all.Looks like a substitute part for an obsolete unit for cars that still use radar, not a new application.

Funny how the image shows that it is for a Model X with March 2021 date. If not a replacement part, then why would you install it on an old car?I don't think so, this part uses Ethernet and the old radar sat on the CAN bus, so it's not compatible at all.
That's just how they distinguish between Model S/X before and after the major redesign, pre-March 2021 and after. It's not like they sell parts by the month.Funny how the image shows that it is for a Model X with March 2021 date. If not a replacement part, then why would you install it on an old car?
Maybe for the Semi?
Why not just quadruple resolution of cameras? That would be cheaper and avoid the impossible sensor fusion problem.A loaded semi has double the stopping distance of a typical passenger car so I can see how radar might be useful in such an application. And the timing is remarkably close to the start of Tesla Semi deliveries.
Retrofitting 5 delivered trucks sounds more feasible than millions of cars that have succeeded without them for over a year granted the only evidence (the document) doesn’t say anything about a car.Tesla says it is adding radar in its cars next month amid self-driving suite concerns
Tesla told the FCC that it plans to market a new radar starting next month. The move raises even more concerns about self-driving capabilities.electrek.co
Not only for the semi since they already started delivering those...
