I contacted Tesla (via the 'Contact us" tab on their website) some weeks back to ask when I'll need to hand over cash during the M3 configure/delivery process. No answer yet. I figure it'll be no different to the Ms & Mx process, so any information would be welcome. I'm a reservation holder and cash buyer.
Regarding a model S, you pay a deposit when you order of 5000 via credit card, then you transfer the rest via either bank transfer or credit card (with a transaction fee after the deposit). They set you up a dedicated bank account number so they can accurately track what you've paid. You can do it over multiple transactions and all funds must be received 24 hours before delivery or credit card payment on the day.
As far as I know handing over actual folding cash is not an option

So basically you have 1500 reservation deposit then 5000 configuration deposit? So total 6500 will be already paid before you have to pay or finance the remaining?
Just been reading up about the exchange rate. Doesn't look like it's going to improve anytime soon. Reserve Bank looks like it's going to keep reducing interest rates in an effort to weaken our dollar.
I hope this damn configurator opens soon so I can order before the exchange rate prices it out of my range.

Reservation payment will form part of the deposit cost. So an additional $3500 is expected when you configure.
Logic tells me to wait until either the 10th, Sunday or Monday next week, or the 15th (as someone was advised). Excitement isn't stopping me from refreshing TMC, Reddit, Whirlpool, Tesla.com or my emails multiple times daily.

while we are waiting for the 10th: Is there any advantage to pay via finance in Australia as opposed to cash (if you have the money)? The 5% ARP is quite hefty.

I guess one advantage would be if your money could be returning you more than the 4.59% Tesla finance rate elsewhere like a managed fund or something?
Looks like they're getting ready. Australian website design has been changed to match the US. Still asking to reserve now for Model 3 however. I hope this means we are getting really close.

If you were really brave, you could use the money on TSLA and if lucky, get your car for nothing

I very much plan to pay on the day, after I see my car. Especially after hearing all the horror stories from the US.
