Texas Hold Up!

Hey guys, I got an interesting update!

My Model 3 Specialist just returned my call and let me know that they just got word that they will begin Texas deliveries eminently. Sounds like they had quite a bit left to work out paperwork/legal wise. He said as soon as my car is completed I will get a VIN and things will get scheduled. (I am not sure if this is unique for Texas, but it sounds like VINs are being held for Texas deliveries until the car is completed).

He said this news is still developing internally, but that my VIN is looking to arrive within the next 7 days. Car completion to delivery timeline is still developing for Texas, but shouldn't take too long.

My best guess is that we have been conflicting information from reps because Texas is being done differently than other states. My specialist says it is because they don't have a sales license in Texas, so all of the paperwork has to be done in California which complicates things quite a bit.
I’m confused about the legal/paperwork part. Texans have been buying Models S and X for years. What new paperwork would be holding them up?

I configured on 1/18 and got my VIN this afternoon. I was a bit surprised to get a VIN in the high 4600, since I have seen lots of VINs in the 5K, 6K and even 8K range (earlier in this thread). It makes me think my car was produced some time ago and no delivery was taken?

LR, PUP, Deep Blue Metallic, 19 in wheels, EAP and FSD

Lucky you. They once gave me a VIN then It never showed up. Got a car with a different VIN. Best car ever.

I had a Tesla Service Center in Texas (I'll not name which one, to protect the innocent) tell me they are supposed to be receiving 40 cars per week right now and and they have not gotten any. The last time I asked them before this was January 15th and they told me they did not have any non-employee deliveries in the new year yet (to that point).

I smell fish.

Given the somewhat non-linear distribution of VINs versus dates posted on forums and the invite spreadsheet, I suspect Tesla isn't assigning them serially, but instead randomly assigning cars VINs from one or two active VIN blocks. That would prevent the media, competitors, and rabid fans like us from figuring out how many they are making any given week/month.

YAY! Congratulations.. so now we know Houston and Dallas are getting VINs.. I think all blue so far though, right?

So.... Austin and San Antonio still hanging, but it must be close!

We have our fingers crossed. I was really glad to see the TX VIN postings late yesterday. We were ~25th in line in Austin and configured on January 18th (Model S owner since 2015), so hopefully we'll see something today -- my wife would love to get VIN for Valentine's day for her red Model 3 ;-)

I received a call a short while ago from Fremont stating that they had received my email from yesterday and have assigned me a delivery person. I should receive a call from this delivery person within a few hours, the caller said.

Still no VIN, but this is something!

Movement fellas/ladies.....MOVEMENT!!!!

Still kind of freaked out that my VIN is so high compared to most that i have seen. I am just hoping its an anamoly and doesnt mean a longer wait or other issue. No calls yet from Tesla regarding delivery or financing so i assume the next 24-48 hours before I get proactive and bug them.

VIN for V-day! I can get behind that... I think since I'm waiting for red, it's EXTRA appropriate ;)

I got the Freemont call this morning too and just received the follow up from my delivery person in Las Vegas. No new info though. Just that VINs were going out to Texas now. He repeated the new 3-6 week guideline. Since today is 4 weeks since configuration for me, I asked if he meant there was a chance I'd receive the car in the next two weeks (at the 6 week point). He said he would expect it to be longer than that, but that I should expect a VIN by that point. I sure hope it's not another two weeks!

As far as how they are being assigned within Texas, he said they are obviously all going to current owners. Then it just depends on color and wheel choices and which batches they have available.

Just got a call from Kevin. He said he got word first thing this morning when he got in to work that Texas is finally happening. He said I did not have a VIN yet, but he expects it to come "very soon". He also said he would mine would "be prioritized" since I've been "waiting the longest." He said he'll call me back one way or the other this week with an update. He said he was very confident (he can't make any guarantees) that I would take delivery in the month of February. That gives two weeks from today and would make 6 weeks and 5 days from config to delivery. We shall see...

At least things are moving. Happy for the rest of y'all, too.

FWIW, my config is Blue with aeros. Configured on Jan 12.
