. My car got to rail jail around Monday last week, paid 9/15. I was told they were waiting on another train to San Antonio by my IDA(?!!!). Seems like insult to injury to move by slowest mean from California, now wait to do the same thing from Dallas..
From what I understand, the train won't depart CA until it reaches a critical mass - how many cars that is, I do not know. But once it moves I've been told the route to Ft Worth is 72-96 hours, so not really that slow. One advantage I imagine is that the cars make the transit in an enclosed rail car, so hopefully that's less risk of damage in transit.

For delivery to Dallas (and I assume Austin and San Antonio), cars are offloaded into a holding lot to wait for truck transport. I don't think they go by rail from Ft Worth to San Antonio, but I certainly don't have any more insight than anyone else here.

All this with a grain of salt, but my IDA told me yesterday that the trucking company is having a hard time getting enough trucks to transport the cars to delivery centers. Its a mixed bag of information, hard to tell for sure.

BTW I took the first home delivery of a Model 3 in Texas.

Congratulations, so glad to see this. Finally, after such a long and tortuous road to get here. Glad to have been a little helpful in the process.

Did you ever get an explanation as to why your car was stranded so long in OKC?

Do you have Areos or 19's? If Aeros you have my car's twin.

You do need to ask about your rear plate frame, Polished Stainless, mine came with one. Not sure if it was because of the delays I experienced, but I was glad to have it.

Now that you have the car we need to share notes on the temp. plates... Mine were issued on August 16th which was 3 days after I was told my car left CA on a train. My guess is your temp plates were issued on July 29th. If so, you need to start talking to Tesla so they get you new ones in case they can't deliver the plates to you by September 29th.

I believe all the statements here are factual, though supported only by circumstantial evidence. If we continue to share information perhaps we can develop a roadmap of expectations for those that follow us.

Thank you! And thank you for your help. I truly believe I wouldn't have my car right now without your tenacity.

I never got an explanation. I really think it was just in the back of that lot in OK, and they were just taking cars from the front of the lot.

We are car twins! I did get the rear plate frame, it was in the trunk. One of the managers that delivered my car did tell me to text or email him if I don't get my plates by the end of the month so I could get new temp tags. You are correct about the July 29th issue date.

I had a rough day today - received word my delivery had to rescheduled from 9/10 to 9/21 with no explanation. I fully paid on 8/8. My car arrived in railjail on 8/21. Working hard to escalate and hope to improve this. Not in SleepingLesson territory yet but I am starting to get very unhappy. Please Tesla decision makers, give these folks in delivery the tools they need.
That's terrible news. I'm really sorry.

What's really frustrating about the whole thing is there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. How could it be that you paid two days before me, we live in the same area, yet I already have my car? It makes no sense.

It’s completly the luck of the draw. If you go by truck you will likely get your car within days. If you go by rail you enter the vortex never knowing when the car will get out.

My original delivery date was Sept. 4 (only two weeks after I placed the order), pushed to Sept. 7, then yesterday pushed to Sept. 21. Even though I will have my first loan payment due shortly after that, I calculated delays cost me less than $5 per day in interest. I still have my car; I still don't have my new garage; my schedule is flexible, so shifting deliveries don't cause a problem. It's a pain not to be able to plan, but otherwise, I have first world problems compared to most.

My car has never shown up on United Rail. I have no complaints about Angie L. in Vegas. So far, she has kept me adequately informed, but I'm a "low information" required customer. I figure it'll get here when it gets here, and I'll still have to make alternative charging arrangements for a while. In the meantime, I opted out of the arbitration clause in the MVPA, so there's a hammer there if everything goes to hell.

So I am now paid in full. Still no VIN (I was mistaken that I had one).
As others mentioned there is one, otherwise you couldn't pay for the car. If you can't find it in the documents then your contact will have access to it on the Tesla system. Just tell them you need it for securing insurance.

My order on "Next Steps" looks very different from yours because the balance remaining for mine is via a loan and the CU's cheque is on route. However my ISA (Gilor) booked the delivery appointment based on the loan officer taking photo of the cheque and providing the Fedex tracking number. Note that I got my VIN nearly immediately after email contact because it is required to get a loan.

Not sure if they have loaded it on a transport yet or not, based on that. ((My VIN has never showed up on United Roads.))

Well, we're not twins anymore, 6 days in, picked up a case of rim rash on the front right wheel. Pissed!

So we picked up our vehicle at Austin Pond Springs yesterday and had a pretty awful experience. I think the lesson for everyone in here is try to avoid scheduling pick up at the end of the day. Details below:

We were originally scheduled for a 11am pickup and we didn't think it was going to happen because we were told our vehicle was still in Oklahoma. We got that call yesterday morning that our car had arrived and they were getting it off the truck and could pick it up at 5pm (wooohoo!). We arrived about 5:20pm after some bad navigating by the wife and they weren't even close to being ready for us. We were told that they were behind, which I honestly completely expected and was good with. Things started to get odd when our delivery specialist came up to us and asked if "we were waiting for one of the grey cars" and if we had any questions he could answer. Finally around 6:15pm they pulled our car around, to the outside area not the delivery bay. There had been 2 people taking delivery in the delivery bay that had been going through their orientation for about an hour, and then 2 other cars in there taking up the spots that weren't being delivered today. There were some major rain clouds coming towards us outside and it was starting to get dark out so it was hard to examine the car, but we did find a few fairly major paint chips. Our delivery specialist said "wow, I've never seen anything that bad on one of these....". I also pointed out that one of the tail lights seemed to extend out further than the other. He pulled the car around back to have them take a look at it, and about 30 minutes later he brought it back around. He told me that they couldn't find any touch up paint (Huh?!) so they couldn't fix the paint chips. He didn't say anything about the tail light so I reminded him and he looked like he had forgot and said, "oh, they said it was within Tesla's specifications". I think asked "what's next" and he said he just needed 1 signature and I could leave... He had given us no tutorials, no explanation on anything, he literally never even acknowledged that my wife and 1 year old daughter were there, and just stood about 10 feet away from us while we looked over the car. The other people who had been taking delivery inside and had started an hour before us still weren't done with their delivery. I understand it was late and they were supposed to close at 6pm but he literally showed no interest in helping us at all. I then told him to let me look over the car one last time and he said, "No big deal, I get paid by the hour".

I really didn't need the intro/tutorial because I had rented a model 3 on Turro but the overall experience was terrible. My wife was so offended she literally hasn't even driven it yet. On a positive note, I did realize that the diecast Model 3 was in the center council (didn't reserve until 6/24/16 when we got home! I think we are missing some other things though like the license plate holders and who knows what else...

This is not the experience I was hoping for after waiting 2.5 years... It really was a bad start to the car but SINCE then it has been awesome as you would expect.

Need help!

I am at the Cedar Springs delivery center, my appointment was cancelled last night at 10:30 pm but since I already cleared my day I decided to come by and see what's going on.

The delivery manager told me they got a few alerts when they were prepping the car last night and are running diagnostic, but he refused to provide an update on it, not even an ETA for diagnostic completion.

Then I asked him if I can just take a look at my car, like see the VIN and stuff, I won't sit in it and won't touch it. HE REFUSED. So pretty much he's keeping me away from a car that I fully paid for and MVPA signed.

What are my options at this point? Do any of you have any management contacts in Tesla that I can keverale? TIA.

I don't blame them at all. The last thing they need is to have potential owners milling around the place while they're trying to get their jobs done. I say leave them alone and wait for your scheduled delivery, but that's just me...

@patoirish So what's teh deal with your paint chips? Are they going to let you bring it back to get them repaired? Sorry you had a crappy experience, but hey, at least you have your car now, and it wasn't nearly as long a wait as some folks had

Yes - he told me they would set up a service appointment to fix them. How could they not have MSM touch up paint though?!

Not trying to be negative and we are (or I am) definitely excited to have the car. It was just such a bad experience mostly because are delivery agent could have cared less.

Hoping the rest of you still waiting get your vehicles soon and have a better experience!

Demand that they provide you with transportation. It is the very least they can do while holding your car hostage and not even letting you look at it.

Hey @patoirish , I'm pretty sure you and I were there are the same time yesterday. We were the couple + manic toddler. Sorry about your experience and bad luck with the car. And dealing with a long wait is so much more difficult with a baby.

We got a little luckier. So we got to go in, sched for 5:30 PM. Talked to the power/solar representatives there to pass a little time and then went in the waiting area. There were a couple of other groups, including one group that had a guy that took the last two cold water bottles without asking anyone else if they wanted one because he "paid a lot for the car so I'm going to get as much free stuff as I can". Ugh. (Weird the details one remembers. And they did re-up the waters). The woman who was helping was attentive and apologetic for the wait. After a little while, she told us that we could leave and come back in about an hour, so we went to Phil's Ice House.

Ok, I realize none of the above is relevant. Anyway....

I was likewise a little disappointed not to receive the car on the indoor carpet special area, but instead, right after @patoirish left, they backed my car in the same place outdoors. The woman did actually give us a walkaround and went step by step through the most important functions of the screen, though we were the last of the day and I think she was ready to wrap things up. I found no problems at the time. She definitely couldn't wait for me to sign the paper accepting delivery. Overall, I think the whole delivery experience was fine, but not especially special.

Driving it (at this point, it was dark), we realized the windows were fogging up and could not figure out how to make the defroster work! On that hill near 2222 and 620, in the lightning and foggy night. THE DEFROSTER IS REAL IMPORTANT YA'LL. And the button is obvious once you know.

After exactly 30 miles (car had 7 when I took it), Autopilot became active. Worked great. Very fun.

Car is just RWD, but it is fast. Feels like the kind of roller coaster that propels you at the beginning. Not sure what those are called, but it puts you back in your seat.

Two issues now:
1. I noticed a gap in my surveillance pics, and see now that I was right. The back trunk has a gap on one side that is wider than the other, which is narrow and tight. I think it's on crookedly. Trying to decide if it will bother me enough to go back.
2. After a software update last night, my Tesla app is no longer working. I've seen mentions about this. No idea how to fix. Googling. (EDIT: ***I finally deleted and re-installed the app and that worked.***
EDIT 2: *** My Tesla account page just updated with features that an owner should have, like scheduling a service appointment, so maybe my app was fixed on the back end and reinstalling had nothing to do with it.***)
