UP MODEL 3 PIKES PEAK RACE CAR

This site may earn commission on affiliate links.
The car begins the PPICH roll cage today with a target of completion in 2 weeks. We then aim to do a second shakedown run at Laguna Seca after the cage is in.

We’ve been developing two complete car programs for the Model 3 that we call the Ascension and Ascension-R (our car names like Ascension and APEX are inspired by our neighbors at SpaceX). We think of our Ascension as a Porsche 911 GT3 equivalent and our Ascension-R as a Porsche 911 GT3 RS equivalent. The first Ascension-R we produced for Erik Strait and we sent that car to Japan to set records there. This is our second Ascension-R and it represents the near complete version of our Ascension-R complete car program. All of the parts on the car are direct bolt-on parts that have been designed to work as a cohesive package for daily use. The goal is for a daily driver that can rival the Porsche 991 GT3 RS as a better daily driver and a faster weekend track weapon. For this particular car we went one step further than our standard Ascension-R plans and we stripped out the interior ahead of Pikes Peak. Aside from the gutted interior and hastily installed raw carbon panels this build represents our standard Ascension-R street car program that begins at $35,000 + base car. Ascension-R complete car package (starts at $35,000) as used:

@UnpluggedP you list the wing & spoiler there. Are you running both devices?

For Tesla Corsa we did. If you notice the mounting point you’ll see the slight variation of the upright. We are continually evolving our products as we race more.

Still no update on the CF trunk lid? I noticed you aren't running it in this event. I would've expected a prototype by now atleast. In our last email correspondence you said these would be available by late summer.

As of right now, our Carbon Trunk is still in development and we will update our customers when we have our final revisions, and they are available for order. We'll typically post any updates on major product announcements here, or on our Insta / FB, and you can always reach out to us any time at [email protected]

The cage is coming along nicely and here are a few progress pics of the car as we are scrambling on having this completed.

We also wanted to share that anyone needing to shave some additional weight...we are now offering lexan windows for the model 3. All the info can be found on our product page below.

Usually it's opposite. And if you have that question - dont even consider this option. It's also going to be scratched way more than glass (coating helps only somewhat). It's a track only mod together with a full cage setup.
For racing you can probably add a layer of film on the outside for protection to keep the windshield from scratching.

Start at pg 27. http://ppihc.org/wp-content/uploads/2020-Rule-Book.pdf

Kudos to the welder. That's nice.
Thanks MXLR for posting the rule book

We produced the cage with our same fabrication team that produces our bolt in roll bars for the Model 3. Our bolt-in roll bars are on our website for sale and are shipping worldwide. We do also offer custom cages like this for those interested. Email [email protected] for quotes on custom cages built to satisfy whatever specs desired. This cage was designed specifically for the Pikes Peak and developed just like our bolt on cage using 3D scanning to get a precise fit.

Pick a title, any title:
UP MODEL 3 PIKES PEAK RACE CAR
MODEL 3 PIKES PEAK RACE CAR UP
3 PIKES PEAK RACE CAR UP MODEL
3 PEAK RACE CAR UP MODEL 3 PIKES
CAR RACE UP PIKES PEAK MODEL 3
MODEL 3 CAR RACE UP PIKES PEAK
MODEL 3 RACE UP PIKES PEAK
:)
When I saw this thread pop up I never looked at it... I only tried to parse the title into something that made more sense to me. What I came up with was what your last suggestion seems to be: Model 3 race car up Pikes Peak. The ALL CAPS fooled me into thinking that UP meant a direction, not Unplugged Performance :) .

On the road to Pikes Peak! Currently in New Mexico! Here’s some info we released on social media today about it.

We began on July 20th with a brand new Model 3 from Tesla and built a record breaking race car out of our Ascenion-R street car program in less than two weeks (a race car with new car temp plates amuses us). We’ve been using this project as testing & final validation of our Ascension-R street car tuning program. In just in first weeks of testing we’ve already shattered the TeslaCorsa and all time EV lap records at Buttonwillow and Laguna Seca, including besting the mighty Tri-Motor Tesla Plaid prototype record. Pikes Peak is our final challenge before we begin producing Ascension-R daily driven street cars with the same bolt-on parts. In upcoming months you’ll see equally fast Ascension-R full interior street cars as our Tesla Model 3 based answer to the Porsche GT3 RS. At that time we will transition this particular build into our zero compromise complete race aero which we’ve been developing in CFD for the past 6 months. More exciting announcements are on the way! Stay tuned for our journey to Pikes Peak.
