Would be cool if Tesla could provide an indication of which models/colours/specs they have a "surplus" of in country (or on the way here), that don't have a customer assigned yet. Either due to customer change of mind, or ahead of time dispatching of stock to preempt demand etc. Maybe with some kind of "backorder", "stock available", .... etc statement.

Not sure how feasible it would be, but I wonder if that might give people with model flexibility a way to change, and for Tesla to keep inventories low... win/win?

I asked the Brisbane delivery team this question - so far no reply, it's been over a week since I emailed.

Interesting - I received a call yesterday from Pepper to apply for finance. I told the lady that I already had finance approved through them back in July, but it was in my hubbys name. Long story short, I reapplied in my name (I've told the Tesla configurator that the rego should be in my name, and the finance has to match apparently), and when it was approved today the Pepper lady emailed Tesla to get my final invoice.

Am I being too hopeful thinking that maybe this call from Pepper is in response to some movement in the order? I guess time will tell on that one. I'm leaving on a two week cruise on Sunday and its entirely possible that Murphy is laughing his head off at me!

For those still waiting and wondering why... a lot are going to China /East Asia

The first three quarters of this year, only 4 RoRo ships visited San Francisco harbor in the first month of the quarter.

In this fourth quarter, it will be 8 ships.

The loading time for the ships headed to Europe is about the same as previous loading times. The loading times for the ships with the destination East Asia (that is, China, South Korea, and perhaps Japan) is longer than previously. So more cars going there...so in Australia ... patience....needs to be in greater supply than--- model 3's

I also got a call from pepper today who wanted to go through the application process with me, I told her I'd already been approved months ago and she said something to the effect of "oh...Yeah I can see that, I'll email you the tax invoice request and mark you off as done."

Got CC'd into the invoice request a few minutes after that call.

Got a call from Tesla this arvo offering Blue P- for my Blue LR AWD ordered 4th Sept. (Reservation since early Apr 2016).
I'm assuming it must be a cancellation?
Said delivery couple of weeks. - we'll see. They did say LR AWD not here until Dec.

Better not be my car! It's been in for service for about 10 days waiting for a part. Delivery specialist might've noticed it's been sitting there for over a week .. must be a new car .. who can we allocate it to! ;)

Ok - now I'm VERY curious. Maybe that does mean our orders are moving along!!

I wish that were the case for me... I got a cookie cutter response from Tesla yesterday regarding my car:

At this stage you haven’t been allocated a vehicle and as such, we have no visibility in regards to an accurate timeframe for you.
As soon as we have more information for you, we will be in contact.
We apologise for the wait and thank you for your continued support of a sustainable future and your patience.

Model 3P+ Red/Black on order.
Melbourne delivery.
Reserved 1/3/19.
Ordered P- 31/5/19, edited order to P+ 10/7/19.
Currently #vinless

So this is getting interesting. Between this thread and the main Model 3 thread, there are three responses from Tesla Melbourne Delivery just this week and the message varies from: Nov \ Dec., Feb., and we don't know. There does seem to be some logic (I know this is dangerous territory when talking about Tesla delivery quotes!).

Case 1 (myself): 3PD+ White/White FSD Melbourne. Reserved August 18, Ordered 31 May, switched to white interior in July (first day available). I was told yesterday from Melbourne Delivery to expect late Nov. Dec.
Case 2 (TadleyD in Model 3 in AU thread): Not all config details, but ordered a 3PD+ in Melbourne. No reservation, ordered late Aug.. Was told expect Feb (confirmed website still said Oct. when they ordered).
Case 3: (your order): 3PD+ Red/Black Melbourne. Reserved March 19, ordered 31 May and switch order in July. Was told we don't know.

So, all this week, all Melbourne Delivery team and three different answers. But the answers seem to track. I had earliest reservation of the three and first day order and was told Nov\Dec. TadleyD has no reservation and by far the latest order and was told Feb 20. You are right in the middle (i.e. later reservation than myself, but still a May 31 order with switch in July) and were told not sure. So I translate this into well, you have a shot at Nov\Dec. but your right on the boarder and might slip to Feb so we can say for sure.

As I said, applying logic to this is dangerous, but the responses don't necessarily seem random.

Here is my exact quote from Melbourne Delivery yesterday (so seems they are not cookie cutter (see above three different responses).

At this time, as your vehicle has not been assigned a VIN, and demand for vehicles exceeds supply, we are estimating a delivery timeframe of late November / December. We are continuing to work through our existing order backlog and allocating vehicles in order as soon as they complete production.

We want to thank you for your order and let you know that we are doing everything we can to get your vehicle to you as quickly as possible.

We understand that this is an inconvenience and we appreciate your patience.

Hope you have a good day.

As someone who has been through this, I can tell you don’t try and apply any sort of logic to the delivery process. Many others have been in your position (myself included) and from my personal experience it just leads to frustration.

I ordered in June, no reservation. Switched to white interior in July and got my delivery in September.

Tesla works in very strange ways and I was sure I wouldn’t get anything til December — until I did. All you can do is hope that they deliver to you as soon as they can and do something else with your spare time. I was refreshing for days trying to get updates!

Oh I completely agree that logic does not apply! I have assumed Feb at this point. But they do seem to be getting their act together a bit (assigning VINs earlier, correcting more defects before delivery, etc.). My only point was I do think they are trying to sort out more accurate times for us now and this is just one more data point that maybe some of the early chaos is giving way. At some point it will get fairly regular like Model X and S orders are now.

Also, if my order does slip to Feb 20 (which Chadstone seemed to imply last weekend), I don't think anyone would have predicted when we were tracking ships in June that a 2018 reservation holder first day order would still be waiting 8 months from full on order for a car (not even including reservation wait time)! I buy the "be patient and you'll love it when it comes argument", but 8 months from first order is a bit crazy if that happens (even 7 months if you include switch to white interior).

This is what I don't think everyone is realising. For someone like me, this is not a few weeks or a month or two slippage, this is potentially literally a half a year delay!

I really hope you get good news soon! They have been getting better from what I see, so this should be promising. I totally agree it’s absolutely the worst company for customer service, and they will have to fix this if they want to keep making money.

Are you in Sydney? From reviewing our limited dataset in the survey responses, the only people I could see who got cars without reservations was in Sydney during the end of quarter rush. If so, there just may not have been any other people in Sydney with an order for that exact configuration who could pick up before the end of quarter.

No I spend my time between Canberra and Melbourne. I got my first contact from Tesla about The 21st of August lol I put it in my calendar. Then got another phone call towards the middle of September. Picked mine up in Sydney the first or second day of white interior deliveries, they offered delivery but I declined. I think a lot of it is random tbh.

I’m honestly surprised that Paul Maric (one of the car reviewers) didn’t get his before me, I feel like most car companies would try and butter up the journalists. We have the same configuration.
