OCTOPUS are an absolute (bad) joke - beware of dealing with them

Undoubtedly fine for many, but posting this to alert others that Octopus is not the super shiny best customer service supplier ever as their adverts would like you to believe.
Total BS in my experience and a massively frustrating disappointment.

Like many on here I signed up (technically was transferred when Bulb failed - I tried to switch earlier but they refused due to the tariff cap) to Octopus.

In spite of repeated promises they have taken over 9 months to install a "smart" meter, during which time I have been paying full tariff instead of one of the EV orientated tariffs.
During which time they have been utterly useless at responding to my inquiries and when they have responded it has either been to say something irrelevant or to make false assurances it would be sorted out.

Now I eventually have the smart meter I still cannot switch to any of the EV tariffs for some reason I have yet to determine.
So I am still paying OTT rates and for sure I am expecting a serious goodwill gesture to rectify.

It gets worse - they have recorded the reading on my previous 2-rate meter the wrong way around day<-->night so my bill is even more ridiculous than it should be (iro £8000!!!).
On top of which every time I tried to correct it with a manual meter reading they switched the reading back.
Before the meter change they even sent a meter reader person round - who managed to read the night reading as day, and the day reading was recorded as the date ffs.
(proof it is possible to have an IQ <1)

So I have a stupid bill, no EV tariff and nobody at Octopus prepared to sort this ridiculous mess out.

And .. if the above isn't enough, I had switched the Company provider to Octopus also so as to burnish our green credentials for electricity supply.

Trying to get Octopus to provide the meter and contract for an upgraded 3 phase supply (which should be routine) has been an utter farce.
More than a dozen phone calls - every answer different, pathetically clueless doesn't even half cover it.
We have now contacted British Gas for the Company supply who have been excellent, responsive and competitive - who'd have thought?

Hoping somebody here has a very senior level contact at Octopus they can PM me with please as I am at my wits end
as for some reason I'm not sure I can fathom myself I would still rather stay with them.

Burning 25ft 10/3 cords using my mobile connector in the rain with a 120v outside GFCI outlet

So yes I am using a standard 120V GFCI outlet. No, I don't have a garage. Outlet outside on side of house with a clear cover (standard new house install)

Driveway distance from outlet exceeds mobile connector cord length so using heavy 10 gauge 25ft extension cord.

Anybody else burning out extension cord wires?

So I try my best to keep where the cord connects to the mobile charger dry.

But I still manage to fry cords. I'll get a notice the car has stopped charging and then see a black mark on the ground on the female side of the extension cord. The extension cord connector is clear so you can see the damage.

I assume water infiltration is causing grounding.

So that's 3 spots where it can fail. At the outlet (which with the cover up could get wet), at the extension/Mobile connection (my top suspect), and of course at the charger door.

My fear is someday I'll short my mobile connector and be basically helpless.

So to remedy this I have
1) purchased a new outlet cover that has a hole on the bottom so you can close it when in use.
2) purchased these small (like 2.5mm) gaskets that you can slip between the extension cord/mobile connector to supposedly help prevent water infiltration.
3) need ideas on the charger door area

Any suggestions?

Ford says owners can start using superchargers today (Feb 29)

I saw the Ford press release and went into the app to look under "charge my non Tesla"

Now the Tesla app asks me to enter car details, including "do you have an adapter". If I claim I have a Ford (and an adapter) there are a LOT of sites available, but not all of the ones I expected. Looking around in the Seattle region I know best, most of the V3 sites are open, but not all. For example the North Bend site at the truck stop isn't listed.

Is anyone tracking which sites are being shared (and which sites aren't?)

If I list the CCS car we actually have (Hyundai Kona EV), it looks like only the magic-dock sites are listed, even though I claimed to have an adapter.

New Owner, First Impressions, Quick Question

Hi all - just bought my first Tesla (and first EV), a 2022 Model S Plaid. It’s hard to describe how much fun I am having with it - I can see why people say they will never go back to ICE. I’m a car guy and have been daily driving a Porsche Cayenne GTS and have a 911 Turbo cabriolet as my fun car - which I thought was fast, but my parameters have been totally reset with the Plaid. The 911 is a long term keeper, the Cayenne I kept for now because the trade value was insulting.

I’m getting the hang of the tech and all, and find it pretty intuitive. A lot of the stuff appeals to the perpetual juvenile in me, as I would have designed a lot of it myself when I was 15 (a long time ago). Mine is white, black interior, black 19” wheels, with the upgraded yoke - which I really like. I wanted to do something totally different than what I was used to, and boy is this all totally different. I’m having the universal wall charger installed on Friday.

Quick question - in the Tesla app I see under upgrades the ability to add 2 more years and 25k miles to the warranty for $3100 - which seems like a decent deal. I only have 18k miles on it now, so extending to 75k and 2028 is appealing. Does anyone know if this offer is time limited? In other words, will it disappear as an option in the app at any time? Just curious if I need to jump on it now. Most of the aftermarket warranties would start the clock on me now, while I still have 2 1/2 years left on the original warranty - kinda dumb to pay for that coverage.

Last - I had a deposit on a Lucid Air Grand Touring and went for a test drive last week. Very nice car, great interior, didn’t fit me well though, and the deciding factor for me is the supercharger network. Tesla was smart and so far ahead of the curve with that buildout. I also wonder if Lucid will make it until the end of the year.

Happy to be here - thanks for all the wisdom shared on the forum as it was very helpful as I did my research.

Corrosion

Hi All - just thought I'd share my little tale and maybe help a few of you from my experience....

Decided to hand wash my car (m3 performance) on the weekend as I was at a bit of a loose end and noticed a fair bit of corrosion at the front end of the sills.

My car is an early, high mileage m3, I have extended warranty.

Assuming it to be covered, logged it through the app, only to be told that body corrosion is covered only in the original basic vehicle warranty, (mine had expired Sep 23), and it was not covered in the extended warranty.

I did comment that this has not occurred in the last 5 months, and was informed, not covered unless informed before original warranty expired - basically 'piss off'.

IMO it is either poor quality paint or poor design to have a high impact area only protected by paint and not plastic or underseal or splash guards.

Don't know if this has been designed out of later models, sure you guys will inform me of this...

For the rest of you, go check whilst your car is in warranty and get the call logged....maybe you can learn from my tardiness, meanwhile I have a repair to pay for, exactly why I got the ex-warranty, for the peace of mind against unexpected bills.

Tesla Roadster II in Australia

Not sure if it’s old news.

There is a reservation page for the Roadster: https://www.tesla.com/en_au/roadster

I’m reading it as $66k reservation fee today, final car price to be advised IF the car lands in Australia.

Has anyone here placed a deposit?

Still sore from the Cybertruck episode, don’t want another dejavu.

The important bit.. how much will it cost exactly? MG Cyberster at circa $100k is shaping up well (launching in 2024 that is).

Thanks.

Charge On Solar Australia

TheDriven says Tesla are enabling Charge-On-Solar (for those with a Powerwall) in Australia tomorrow:

New nitrogen filled tires riding very rough

I had the original mx4 michellines or whatever the model number is car was super smooth ride.

I just changed all 4 for pilot sports all season at Costco they filled them with nitrogen

Now car rides like straight trash I feel every bump it’s very jarring

Anyone know if it’s the tires or the fact it’s filled with nitrogen? They are filled at 42psi like recommend.

Or maybe I have to deflate them a bit?

Appreciate anyone who’s experienced the same

Auto pilot / Cruise control / sentry not working

Hello, I have a 22 Model 3 Dual motor and about two weeks ago my auto pilot, and cruise control along with visualizations stopped working. I thought it would correct it self however it never came back. I shut down, rebooted the car and reformatted the usb thinking it might be that and nothing. I also had an update that was stuck at 100%for about four days . I made a service request and got quoted over 3k to replace the computer. My car is out of warranty and has about 62k miles. I feel that since this might be a bug or defect in the programming it really sucks to have to pay that amount to have this fixed. I would have never thought this would be an issue that I would be in. I’ve looked around for others in similar situations with warranty and them wanting to fully replace but haven’t found anything similar. Any help is appreciated thank you

2025 Roadster per Elon

I guess Elon went on twitter and posted that Tesla will unveil the new roadster later this year. He is aiming to ship next year. We'll have to see but maybe the delay is a good thing where Tesla can make the roadster better than their competition. Just a guess without seeing the "improved" model.

Anyone excited about this news?

Battery charges to 80% then jumps to 83% 30 mins later

I have my charging set up to stop charging at 80% and it does stop charging at 80%, it shows the car is at 80%

But then 10 to 30 mins later it’s now at 83% and it wasn’t even charging, I looked at it and no power was going through the charger after it finished at 80%

So is the car really still at 80% and it just had more range than it thought so it’s displaying more even though it’s at 80%? Or is it really at 83%

Tesla France! WTF!

I'm currently trying to buy a Tesla Y in Paris, France, and I'm quite livid now as the experience was quite unbelievable. The entire experience in buying a car was simply horrendous! I'm not sure if this is a Tesla cultural issue or France itself, but the folks simply don't seem to give a *sugar* about selling any of their cars. I get it, Teslas are selling themselves and don't need sales people but only product, but for me as a foreigner trying to buy a car in France, I found this to be one of the most unpleasant buying experiences for a big ticket item. Firstly, I was told there was no need for a foreign resident permit, so went ahead and deposited the 250 Euro to proceed with the purchase. Then, the onboarding service guy tells me I need a foreign resident permit, and he won't sell me the car, simply stating that the I need to remove my order and wait until I get one. I read online and consulted with others, and simply there was no rule that you need a permanent resident to purchase a car. Even refugees/illegal immigrants can buy a car in France! Anyway, we are going back and forth for over a week on this matter, eventhough I'm giving him evidence, just replies that he needs a permanent resident status, was like talking to a wall for a week. Then finally I ended up going to the Tesla show room to ask what was going on, they laugh it off like I'm the typical foreigner, etc.. Even during the test drive phase, these guys wouldn't accept my drivers license from Asia which I had to translate and legalize by the French consulate; however, they accepted my still valid Canadian driver's license.... this Tesla guy finally accepts my official visa that allows me to stay in France. Now, he sends me a quote that is way above the official price for a Tesla Y. I have to say, I've never in my life felt bullied when trying to buy a friggin car! Has anyone else experience this with Tesla France (being a foreigner from a native English speaking country)? And, is there any way to file a complaint agains this Tesla guy!?? I felt discriminated as well throughout this entire process!

Mileage lower than expected

Hi all, I’m a first time EV owner so apologies if this is a stupid question! I recently bought a Model 3 Long Range with Photon wheels and absolutely love it. However I’m confused about the mileage. On the Tesla website the advertised range is 421 miles. I’m fully aware that in reality I won’t get anywhere near this but when I charge the car to full the actual mileage stated is 344 miles. Then when driving I’m probably only getting about 75% of this. I was expecting to get about 75% of the 421 miles and it just feels a big coincidence that the 344 is exactly the same as the advertised range for the standard range M3. Is this similar to others or have I mistakenly been given the wrong car? Based on the customer service I received from Tesla it wouldn’t surprise me!

Order before March 1 or wait until end of Q1

As the title suggests, I'm debating on pulling the trigger on a MY before the anticipated March 1 "price increase". There's a few considerations I have in mind and wondering what the community thinks I may be missing?

  • I'm not in a rush one way or the other, I can be patient;
  • But I know the MY is for me!
  • Tesla is known to offer end of the quarter incentives, who knows if they'll offer any before end of Q1
  • I realize the best time to buy a Tesla is now
  • Inventory deals look pretty good now
What are your predictions for what Tesla does for end of Q1 2024?

My Experience Taking my Model Y down to 0%

My 2023 model Y LR 19" stock wheels from Fremont has 17k miles on it, the weather was decent (62F and sunny) so I ran my battery down to 0% (0 miles). I mainly did this to lessen my fears of running out of battery on a road trip.

I started with a full battery (100% charged from home), usually when I charge to 100% for a long trip the last 8% usually takes about 35 minutes, this time it took 111 minutes. I am guessing the battery needed a lot of balancing since it has been months since I've charged to 100%.
  • 317 rated miles at 100% (the number at the top of the screen near the battery icon, I think Tesla calls it "Total estimated driving distance (or energy) available")
  • 315 actual miles driven to 0% from Tesla "since last charge" trip meter
  • 318 miles driven shown by my USAA insurance app
  • 6 hours 56 minutes of driving over a couple days, highway and county roads mostly in the Denver area at around 60F (USAA app)
  • 71kWh consumption of the battery (from Tesla trip meter)
  • 224wH/mile averaged. 71kWh divided by 224wH/mile = 317 miles which is magically what Tesla estimated before I started driving.
  • When I got to 0% I didn't notice any power loss, however I could see 4 dots on the right side of the Power Meter. 5% is when the dots started to appear.
  • I received plenty of warnings that I was getting low, the last few miles I circled my local supercharger station.
  • When I tried to supercharge at 0 miles I got an error message saying something like "charging stopped". I freaked out a bit and I started to think this test has ruined my battery!
  • I tried another stall and it started charging at 165kW right away and within 45 seconds it was already at 250kW. From 4% all the way to 11% it stayed at 250kW which seemed really good considering I did not precondition the battery at all and it was 62F.
  • The charging session took 1:22 from 0% to 100%. (Tesla estimated 55 minutes)
  • +80kWh total for the supercharger session receipt which I think included some HVAC and watching Youtube while waiting.
  • +76kWh actually went just to the battery (number shown below "Charging Complete" message at top of screen).
  • After the supercharger session the new rated miles at the top of the screen dropped slightly to 316.
  • As for degradation I am not sure how to calculated it. If it was rated for 330 new and now displaying 316, I guess that is -4.2%. But I used -71kWh draining it to 0%, but it received +76kWh to fill it back up so I not sure how to calculate that.
  • After doing this test I do feel more confident about not running out of battery.
Did this hurt my battery? I watched this video from Jeff Dahn and he suggests (20 minutes into the video) a depth of discharge of only 25% daily for NMC batteries (which is about what I am doing.) Jeff indicated that every 500 hours they did a "check up cycle" from 100% to 0% during the 2.5 years of testing. I am not sure what that check up cycle equates to in miles, but I am guessing do a "check up cycle" every 17k miles is OK for the health of the battery.

“Summon” isn’t so “smart”

Subscribed to FSD for a road trip. Thought I’d try summon in a mostly empty hotel parking lot. Car pulled out of the stall and briefly drove behind a parked semi truck obscuring my view. Car stopped moving and the app said “summon complete.” Walked around the semi to find the car trying to mate with an island.

Yes, I know the fine print says the car may not recognize curbs, keep it in sight at all times etc etc. Still, anyone thinking of using this feature for the first time should be aware your car may go rogue.

Nothing was damaged aside from additional rash to an already scuffed wheel, so I hope you find this as amusing as I did.

High Mileage Rental 3

I know there's a lot of talk about this these days, so I apologize if this is redundant, but long story short:
Rental Agencies are selling a lot of their M3 inventory.
A lot of that inventory has landed at a really friendly and transparent used dealer near us that we trust and like.
We're finally in a position (financially) to make the jump. (especially with the used tax credit)

Only hesitation is the mileage. We're looking at a few 2022 LR AWD M3s with clean titles and good conditions. Both get up to over 300 miles of range on a max charge BUT the elephant in the room is that both have roughly 114,000 and 110,000 miles on em.

That'd put them at around 55-57K miles a year........ over 5 TIMES what the average American does. Anyways, enough of the obvious. I guess I'm looking for other M3 owners that have high mileage in a short amount of time to share your experience and what your journey has been like. Any other M3 owners who have specifically picked up a previously rented one recently as well?

Thanks
