Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Well, considering the poster says "65.6% of you will love it" and the current US homeownership rate also happens to be 65.6%, I'm guessing a new Powerwall is in the works.

Hmmm, well Gigafactory 1 was originally called "Project Tiger," so maybe the commenter is on to something with the theory that "Project Bobcat" is battery related.

I swore off margin after the big drop in 2019, but I'm curious, are there any drawbacks to increasing your available margin that way? It seems too good to be true. Thanks!

Mods: As a longtime member (mostly lurker) I'd just like to chime in to say @Fact Checking and @KarenRei are two of the most valuable members on TMC and the quality of discussion dramatically improved when they showed up a few years ago. I beg you to make peace with them.

Thanks for the reminder on the Leaf deposits. That makes for an interesting comparison. According to this article, the Leaf had 19,000 deposits after 1 month which was only 7 months away from the first expected deliveries. The Leaf has averaged about 50,000 units annually over the past few...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

While I strongly disagree with your premise that his age is an issue, he's actually ~34 years old according to his marriage announcement last year in the New York Times. I think his already long tenure gives him deep insight into Tesla's operations and is a huge asset that an external hire...

    General Discussion: 2018 Investor Roundtable

Yeah, I wish every journalist that bashed Elon over Pravduh would read that article. Even if a journalist isn't being directly influenced, the narrative gets shifted by those that are. That influence gets echoed and amplified in today's 24 hour news cycle by journalists who think they're just...

    Tesla Gigafactory

Looks like there's some new dirt work north of the Gigafactory. It's been a long time since I've seen activity in that area. Any ideas what it could be? My uninformed speculation is that it might be temporary parking/storage to replace the existing capacity that will soon be overtaken by...

2017 Investor Roundtable: TSLA Market Action

    Solar Roof update of sorts

Sigh... Despite what you've read in the click bait articles going around, there is no delay (as far as we know). In this SolarCity Q&A from November, Elon says they'll start with the most popular option in the summer and then introduce the next 3 styles in roughly 3 month intervals. If...

Sorry, I should have specified. Each point represents the CAGR from 6/30/11 to that date.
  18. A

    Blind Faith Price Targets

You're right about the difference in our numbers. I was going back to 6/30/11. My gut feeling is that the CAGR will be closer to 6.7% in the medium term and then fall from there. Note that Apple's CAGR over the past 5 years has been -4.3% :) I've attached a graph in case anyone is interested.
  19. A

    Blind Faith Price Targets

Historically, Tesla's shares outstanding have risen exactly 8% each year :) That's after the SolarCity deal, however, which was non-dilutive in my non-expert opinion. At the end of last April, the CAGR was at 5.4% and if the SolarCity deal didn't happen, it would be at 6.7% right now.

So, I had his twitter page open when the repost occurred. Around the same time, he responded to @heydave7 who asked if he could confirm or deny the Bloomberg article that he's no longer at Tesla. Well, the Model S P100DL appears to have a max discharge rate of 567 kW. I'm probably being naive, but given a hypothetically sufficient thermal management system, wouldn't the max charge rate be in the same ballpark?

Page 68 of the merger proposal shows SolarCity wanted a termination clause if Tesla went below $175, but it appears they didn't get their wish. This Fortune article appears to confirm that fact. Short-Term TSLA Price Movements - 2016

I'm not a finance guy, but from their 2025 "Elon as Henry Ford" scenario (ignoring Tesla Energy) I get: 178,030,000,000 * 0.132 * 39.9 * 201 / 29,470,000,000 = $6,395 per share. Their "Future value per share" of $1,152 would imply a dilution of about 21% per year for the next 9 years. That makes...

On the flip side, I wonder what the chances are that SolarCity is pushing for a better deal. Why does it matter how many there are? This granular approach will allow greater utilization of the fleet by sending them where they're needed when they're needed. Virtual Reality environment not care about underlying vehicles

No one has implemented this "innovative" feature because it doesn't make financial sense. Take a look at Google. They make $45 per user per year in revenue (not profit). Note that is far more than their competitors due to the highly targeted nature of their ads. That's about 2 orders of...

Well, I've tried to avoid bugging everyone with my pet theory on GF2, but since it came up, this is where I think it might go. Note that when Tesla purchased 1,864 acres adjacent to the original 1,000 acre site, Tesla Motors spokeswoman Alexis Georgeson said "The purchase gives us the...

Fiat can do it in 12!

Ford is managing to turn a profit while growing 3% a year. To paraphrase Elon, Tesla plans on "growing production 50% a year as far into the future as he can reasonably project." It would take about 137 years of 3% growth to match 10 years of 50% growth. How can Tesla possibly be expected to...

Wow! According to wikipedia, Germany represented 3.14% of global sales in 2015. If that ratio holds for the Model 3, 10,000 German reservations would mean 318,471 globally! That seems WAY too high, but I want to believe...
