Tesla To Recall 3,878 Cybertrucks Over Faulty Accelerator Pedal

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2024/RCLRPT-24V276-7026.PDF 🤦‍♂️ I feel like the question "can anything become detached in the driver footwell?" should be on the final design signoff for every vehicle...

I've been wondering about this. By own shares I mean individual shares not as part of a fund.

Out of Spec doing a Cybertruck vs. R1T vs. Lightning vs. Silverado EV cross country race. Who wins?

My guess: Silverado EV - the only thing stopping it is CCS reliability. It is the small battery version (180kwh). Cybertruck - Superchargers! Lightning - I assume it will also use superchargers Rivian - Most efficient but can only use CCS

    V11 MagSafe phone mount solution

So, I got a new giant phone (RIP iPhone mini 😥) and needed to redo my mount. Then I had epiphany that there's a large section of the screen that I never use so I taped the MagSafe charger directly to the screen. So far it's working great! My old mount:

POLL: Will FSD Beta be released to everyone in North America this year and still be so at the end of the year?

At the Cyber Rodeo Elon said “The Tesla Autopilot team and AI team has done an incredible job building real-world AI and we’re able to go to wide beta for all full self-driving customers in North America this year” So they're able to do it, but will they? Or in other words, will @boonedocks be...

"There's going to be a dedicated robotaxi, it's going to look quite futuristic"

Apparently Elon is still confident that they'll get robotaxi capable FSD soon. To me the idea of using a Model 3 as a robotaxi never made any sense. My guess is it's going to have the angular style of the Cybertruck with sliding doors and two rows of seats facing each other.

The best part is no part? Tesla taking the next step to eliminate the other 50% of the steering wheel?

The NHTSA seems to have shot down Tesla's request to allow manual control of the vehicle via a touchscreen in their latest rule making regarding automated driving systems. I'd be curious to see how well such a system would work... I'm skeptical...

Bold claim: Volvo Cars’ unsupervised autonomous driving feature Ride Pilot to debut in California

https://www.media.volvocars.com/global/en-gb/media/pressreleases/292917/volvo-cars-unsupervised-autonomous-driving-feature-ride-pilot-to-debut-in-california As usual I'm skeptical. I like that Volvo is going to release this in California first, right on Tesla's home turf. Maybe this year FSD...

If HW3 does not achieve FSD would you accept a Tesla Bot driver as compensation?

Does anyone else think that Tesla Bot might be used as a backup plan just in case HW3 does not achieve FSD? There's been a lot of talk about camera positioning and quality but first principles thinking says that if you have a humanoid robot in the driver's seat you can definitely achieve FSD.

    New Tesla Vision Autopark!

Apparently there's a new version of Autopark on the new Model S that uses the cameras instead of the ultrasonics. Looks embarrassingly bad right now but hopefully it will improve. Sort of wishing I had gotten FSD when it was on sale for $2k because I'm guessing this won't work on HW2.5.

Poll: FSD Beta V9.1, how close is it to release (i.e. out of beta)?

The stated goal for FSD is to be twice as safe as human drivers when used unsupervised. Tesla's safety data shows an accident rate of 1 per 2 million miles without Autopilot enabled (Tesla Vehicle Safety Report). They define an accident as "all crashes in which the crash alert indicated an...

If pressing "the button" means you lose Smart Summon (and are limited to 75mph Autosteer) do you do it?

Tesla should offer an incentive to leave crowded superchargers.

Right now if you're on a road trip during a high traffic day the optimal strategy is to charge to near 100% at every supercharger because that will give you more options on your next supercharging location just in case those are also congested. Tesla has tried to solve this problem by by...

How can Smart Summon data be used to train a neural net?

So I've seen the claim that Smart Summon data is being used to train some sort of neural net. I obviously have no idea how any of this is supposed to work. Wouldn't data from humans driving through parking lots be used to train a neural net to drive through parking lots? Or are people saying...

FUD I believe in. There is an enormous leap from a safe Level 2 system to a safe Level 3-5 system.

Here's a video of what happened when Google gave their driver assist system to employees to test out. How will racing games that use the steering wheel not flat spot your front tires?

At 13:06 they show the steering wheel turned 90 degrees. Is there a steering wheel disconnect? I figured they'd just use steering torque with the power steering disabled so it would be very hard to actually turn the front wheels. That does not appear to be the case.

Is it possible that AVs will never be as safe as human drivers with ADAS?

I was just thinking that all the advancements in the AV space are being applied to the new generation of ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems) and will make cars much safer. This will raise the bar on how good AVs must be to be safer than humans. It seems possible that collision avoidance...

Idea: Tesla could limit charge to 80% when a location is extremely busy

one car line and one stall out last Friday at 10pm. Some guy was charging to 95%! Grrr... Sort of annoying that I've run into lines on both of my road trips. They need to limit the Lone Pine and Inyokern chargers to 80%. It sounds like Friday and Sunday are days to avoid on the 395.

Why is limited regen in cold weather a thing?

So I got the limited regen warning for the first time the other day (in coastal San Diego!) and I was wondering why they don't just use the regen energy to heat the battery.
