While I agree that some of the information is speculation, his sources provided information months ago that stated lower optioned Model 3 would be produced first. He seems to have some pretty reliable sources.

I advise caution about any information coming from this Model 3 Owners club guy.

He has straight up lied about his sources before. For example, he lied about being on the institutional investor call with Elon earlier this month. He posted a bunch of information from the reddit thread about it and claimed that it wasn't from the thread, but from himself being on the call.

It wasn't true. I was trying to verify the information in that thread and I ended up talking to someone on the call who wasn't the same guy from the reddit thread. I dmed the Model 3 Owners club guy and he wasn't able to share a single info that wasn't in that thread and there was plenty. To justify that, he claimed that he was only on the call for a while and then he had to leave, but he shared info from that thread that was given toward the end of the call.

Total nonsense. No idea why he would lie about that.

As for the Model 3 for test drive, Tesla already confirmed that. Musk said that they would allow reservation holders to test drive the Model 3 before ordering and if Tesla plans to start production in July, it puts it right in Q3. No need for a special source here.

Again, be careful.

Fred, as long as we are discussing sources, what do you think about elon's velvet jacket?

And what, do you think the nature of the "like a spaceship" control system is? Special steering?

Interested in Fred's answer, but I think the speculation that the wheel will hide itself or something like that is off-base. Smells too too falcon-wing-doors-complicated for the Model 3.

elon's velvet jacket was someone from sales, like a product specialist. store coordinator or owner advisor. The nature of the information he shared and when he shared it was in line with when those people get the info.

He seems to have stopped after another product specialist complained on reddit that he was making harder for the rest of them since Tesla was now more wary about sharing the info in advance.

As for the spaceship thing, I have no clue. like I reported the other day, I know that the Mission designer is working on it, but that's it.

I hope you are right and it is an ordinary steering wheel. But then Elon's comment in hindsight made no sense, or he really was just referring to the design aesthetic of the existing car. It isn't that we were all breathlessly desiring a hud and a fold away wheel, just reading tea leaves. As an investor the simpler the better.

I assume this is Trevor Page you're talking about?

Fred, you proved you sent him three questions then immediately accused him in your 4th of not being on the call. And are now publicly accusing him of lying. Is that what transpired? Would you want someone to take your lack of response as an indication that you're lying?

Trevor has a long history of providing thoughtful Model 3 news via his own YouTube channel and website/Twitter. I would wager he has no reason to lie to you about anything. So, unless you have some more valid proof of said actions, I would suggest you cool your engines regarding publicly slandering someone. [And I have no relationship with him whatsoever, I just find your tone shockingly offensive]

Seems to be mostly speculation to me. The HUD was a big one where for months he was confident there would be one. Almost assuring viewers of it. Then the other day he said it doesn't look like a HUD will happen and nonchalantly added, "not the end of the world." Completely ignoring his supreme confidence just days and weeks and months earlier. That irked me.

Ditto here. I also find the post about being "careful" pretty meaningless as Fred did not really dispute the information about the test drives. Unfortunately, more than anything, Fred's post looks like a personal attack to me.

It's not about disputing the information. it's about lying about the source of the information.

Again with the test drive stuff. He claims it's an "exclusive", but it's not.

It has been on the FAQ section of Tesla's website for months: Model 3 Reservations FAQ

When can I test drive Model 3?
We will provide the opportunity to get behind the wheel of Model 3 once we begin production. In the meantime, we invite you to stop by a Tesla store to experience Model S or Model X.

You can call it a personal attack, but he is lying.

How is it offensive? he did lie. I'm just warning you when basing anything off of his information.

He first shared the info on his Twitter an hour after the call was over and the reddit thread was posted. He didn't say where the info was coming from.

When I asked. He said he was on the call. When I ask to prove him by sharing information that wasn't in the thread he couldn't. Then I tested him by asking him to complete information that wasn't in the reddit thread and he made things up. Like the thing in the screenshot. Musk's comment had nothing to do with battery management system, but instead the management of the production of the batteries.

Again, he then claimed that he had to cut the call short, but he shared information that was in the reddit thread shared toward the end of the call.

He wasn't on that call. He got the information unverified from reddit. He lied about it because I called him out on sharing the information as fact without verifying it.

That's it.

The way I see it:

Fred Lambert does our community a great service in Electrek, and is a reasonably competent journalist that cares about his integrity. He protects his sources, and does his best to independently verify the facts of the articles he's posting.

As a person doing the job right, its frustrating to watch someone else cutting corners, and presenting unverifiable anecdotes as facts, particularly if demonstrably misrepresenting the source of the information as being credible when it isn't.

It's only that. When he posted that, I was trying to confirm the information and he sent out a tweet saying that Electrek would post an article about based on his info - which wasn't his info. Hence my problem with it and my involvement.

I agree. Journalism is already under attack, and we need to be vigilant on holding the feet to the fire of those not adhearing to high journalistic standards.

I appreciate Fred's warning, and I also appreciate those here who questioned Fred. It's healthy to seek truth.

Exactly.

Fact checking shouldn't get in the way of publishing news, even sometimes rumoured or otherwise unverifiable news (Electrek frequently posts rumors or other rumblings), but its important to not misrepresent the information being published as being something it's not. I generally think Electrek does a pretty good job of this.

Integrity is the number one thing to value in journalism.

Yes, after all we are here in the investor thread, if I were a reservation holder I would probably be more passionate about the interior (or the lack of it). I think it's a good strategy to begin with a scaled down Model 3, simply to prevent osborning the Model S. If they see that the Model 3 interest slows down (and that will take quite some time), they can add some bells and whistles to the car, for example a brain surgery to control the car with your mind, the writing is on the wall. o_O
Tesla is vertically very integrated, one of benefits of it is that they are able to interate the vehicles fast, to go from Mobileye to self driving hardware was a deed no other carmaker is able to do so fast (I suspect) to add a HUD to the car in comparison is easy, I mean Panasonic has such a thing on the shelf.

Seems like the Model 3 Owners Club guy is misrepresenting how he gets his information, but not the information itself. I can understand why there is some concern about the commitment to quality journalism that represents. That said, what a boon it would be if the quality of journalism at the Wall Street Journal, Barron's, Forbes, Bloomberg, the LA Times, the Motley Fool, Market Watch, and Business Insider were to rise to the level of some Model 3 Owners Club chap uploading videos to YouTube.
