Very little has changed since yesterday…

RCC ASIA continues to make steady progress across the Atlantic. Her midday position is shown on the chart below. ETA Zeebrugge PM 01 Sep, Southampton probably around 4 Sep.

RCC ASIA Atlantic Progress.png

GLOVIS SIGMA She is currently about 250nm SE of Acapulco and continues to battle with some heavy weather that has forced her to reduce speed to about 12kts. Since yesterday she has averaged just 13kts. The weather forecast for the remainder of her trip to Panama is heavy rain, rough seas and numerous intense thunderstorms. She is due to arrive at the entrance of the Canal on Monday and so has time to make up for the currently reduced speed. Don’t forget to enter the GLOVIS SIGMA competition! I expect her to arrive in Zeebrugge around 13 Sep and Southampton around 16 Sep.

GLOVIS CLIPPER departed Pier 80 about an hour ago enroute to Panama. I still have her pencilled in to arrive at Zeebrugge around 17 Sep, Southampton 20 Sep.

GLOVIS SUNLIGHT She is due to start loading at Pier 80 on Saturday and I expect her to head to the Far East.

K.ASIAN BEAUTY Although shown on the latest San Francisco Port Schedule as being due to load on Sep 4 I am absolutely certain that she won’t make it. Perhaps another ship will step in, ASIAN GLORY or GLOVIS CORONA perhaps?…. or considering the weather in the tropics at the moment and possible delays, would it be better to transport to the East coast?

Hi
I ordered a Model 3 in july and talked to a tesla service guy yesterday who guessed that I could pick it up (Denmark) by end of sept as it was crossing the atlantic at the moment.
Anyone got an idea of which ship my tesla could be onboard?

GLOVIS CLIPPER has updated her AIS with an ETA for Balboa of 3 Sep.
This is a quick transit - like RCC ASIA did, however the weather may prove to be an obstacle this time.
Nevertheless, on the basis of this estimate I will revise her ETA Zeebrugge to 16 Sep and Southampton 18 Sep.
Are cars assigned a VIN before loading, during transit or only once arrived at a tesla service centre?
Enroute generally shortly after the ship departs.

I got a VIN assigned as the RCC Asia departed so I assumed I was on this ship but turns out im on the SIGMA as I have a just recived a planned delivery text for the 24th of sep so for me it appears as it arrived at the docside waiting to load, maybe even as it was produced?

GLOVIS SIGMA She is currently about 150nm W of Guatamala maintaining just under 13kts and since yesterday she has averaged just over 13kts, so not exactly racing along. The weather forecast for the remainder of her trip to Panama is heavy rain, rough seas and numerous intense thunderstorms. Looking at the Caribbean forecast for next week it looks as though she could possibly have some more heavy weather to look forward to. She is due to arrive at the entrance of the Canal on Monday and so has time to make up for the currently reduced speed. She has now appeared in the Zeebrugge port schedule as arriving at midnight on 12 Sep and departing later that same day. Accordingly I am revising my estimate for Southampton to 13 Sep. This will be a very fast Atlantic crossing.
Don’t forget to enter the GLOVIS SIGMA competition! The squares are gradually disappearing and so far there are no duplicate entries!

GLOVIS CLIPPER departed Pier 80 yesterday enroute to Panama. She is due to arrive there on 3 Sep which considering the weather enroute could be quite a challenge. She has 2 tropical storms to confront, Hernan and Iselle. She won’t encounter them until Sunday so I’ll have a look at the situation tomorrow, in the meantime she needs to keep the speed up - she’s doing 19kts at the moment, which is pretty close to maximum. She has also now appeared in the Zeebrugge port schedule and confirms the predicted arrival on 16 Sep. She is not due to depart until 14:00 on 17 Sep and so if she is coming to Southampton it will be on 18 Sep.

GLOVIS SUNLIGHT She will move alongside Pier 80 later tonight and is due to start loading at Pier 80 on Saturday. I expect her to head to the Far East.

K.ASIAN BEAUTY She will not load at Pier 80 this quarter. I am keeping my eye on GLOVIS CORONA (honest) as a possible replacement. Like the virus it may take a little time to confirm whether we have the Corona or not! Hopefully I may be able to confirm this ship or find some other candidates by tomorrow.

Hi, very new here, but I have been told my car went by rail to the east coast and will be loaded there and shipped to the UK, hopefully for delivery before the end of Sept, is there any way of tracking the east coast boats?
If you are waiting for MODEL S or Model X

Although Model S and Model X are made in the same factory as the Model 3 their delivery journey to you is markedly different.

Both Model S and X are shipped partly assembled in containers (3 to a container).

They are moved by road from the factory to the Oakland Joint Intermodal Terminal where they are loaded on to a train.

The train then takes about 9 days to travel to Houston. (actually BNSF Pearland).

The containers are then moved by road to the dock at Barbers Cut where they are then loaded on to a scheduled container ship that eventually arrives 15 days later in Rotterdam (Note: Although the ships have a scheduled stop in Antwerp your containers are unloaded in Rotterdam).

There the containers are moved by road (or barge) to Tilburg in Holland. Your car is removed from the container and then joins a mini production line where it is reassembled. It is then moved to Zeebrugge and shipped to Southampton.

As can be seen, all this takes time.

Finding your car in this complex logistics chain is difficult but there is a man who can. @Vedaprime is the specialist in this area. You can find him here but he normally resides on Twitter.

Ships for possible Model S and Model X shipments are:

MAERSK MONTANA arrived Rotterdam 3 Aug
MAERSK IOWA arrived Rotterdam 10 Aug
MAERSKA IDAHO arrived Rotterdam 17 Aug
MAERSK NIJMEGAN arrived Rotterdam 22 Aug
MAERSK OHIO arrived Rotterdam 24 Aug
SAFMARINE MAFADI arrives Rotterdam 31 Aug
MAERSK MONTANA Dep Houston 23 Aug Arr Rotterdam 7 Sep
MAERSK IOWA Dep Houston 30 Aug Arr Rotterdam 14 Sep
MAERSK IDAHO Dep Houston 6 Sep Arr Rotterdam 21 Sep
MAERSK OHIO Dep Houston 14 Sep Arr Rotterdam 28 Sep

All of this is courtesy of @Mr Miserable who is a genius at tracking shipping movements.

I haven't seen any evidence of shipping via the east coast this quarter. With GLOVIS CLIPPER just departed and possibly 1 more ship to come it may not be required. Having said that, I have a very reliable contact in San Francisco who is watching for precisely this activity and just last night he reported that he saw no sign of it.
Nevertheless I will keep an eye open....

Ok thank you for the prompt reply, the chap on the phone did a live track on the car apparently and could see it on the east coast, said it was built on the 15th Aug. Guess I will have to wait a bit longer.

Thanks again for the reply

The story sounds good. Tesla certainly do exactly this sort of thing at the end of the quarter but for a car manufactured on 15 Aug there are ships it could have been loaded on eg GLOVIS SIGMA, GLOVIS CLIPPER and one more TBC.
I would expect cars manufactured a lot later to be selected for the east coast option.
