Buying or selling a Powerwall 2? A warning...

I worked with my Tesla Energy Advisor to try to get those credits applied to my Model 3 last week and it was a no-go from the Delivery Specialist saying it can only be applied to Tesla Energy. Seems like no one really knows whats going on with conflicting statements.

That’s disappointing. I’m still having issues receiving the credit, and wanted to use it on the Model 3 coming in the next couple weeks. How long did it take for someone to contact you after survey?

Please message me their name. They should be able to be used. I'll clarify with my contact that model 3 use is ok. They said cars was ok, that should mean S, X, and 3.

It took a while. If you just qualified for a power wall, chances are they won't get back with you in time.

A typical 30 year old with 1M in wealth is a dangerous thing and if they spend 250K of that now, and risk 2.5MM of future compounded growth, well that is probably why they won't retire early. There are a lot of poor people who want to appear rich and go into debt doing so. Rich is more of a mindset. Maturity also is. People buy what they want, it's how things are. Enjoy it while you can but hopefully good parenting will help everyone make good decisions in life.

Would be nice to see Tesla develop a good electric track car - light, good acceleration and destined for off-highway use on a closed circuit. Quick change battery pack for lots-a-laps.

I've probably had the email for a month or so, but just saw today that I need to complete the survey to get them to exchange it for the credit smh If you have any contacts that can help accelerate the process or simply have it exchanged please let me know. Thanks!

Same situation. I haven’t completed the form as I do not have a location to install the powerwall and this thread is preventing me from going out and trying to sell/transfer this reward.

Just received this after a few emails to the referral program team:

"In regards to your Powerwall 2 vs credit, I wanted to clarify my colleague’s points below. While in some markets, credit is available as an option for this (and other) rewards where items are not expected to be available, the US market is not one of these markets."

hmm....any input is appreciated from the guys that have been successful in the credit exchange

Yes -- don't ask the referral program about the PW credit exchange. They really don't know anything that's going on in the Tesla Energy department (previously SolarCity) tasked with the installation of the PW2 awards.

Several of us here have confirmed with the TE group that we can exchange PW2 awards from Phases 7 onward for US$5500 in credits. This policy is definitely not bubbling up back to the referral program group in Tesla Motors.

Although there still is confusion over where those credits can be used, though (TE only, Motors only, or service+accessories only -- we've heard all three).

Thanks for the reassurance. Seems very unlikely they'll get back to me in the next couple weeks to be able to apply the credits to this Model 3, but hopefully it'll be in order once i'm able to put my order in for the AWD/performance version

Part of the commissioning process is establishing communication with the Tesla mothership. I guess you can try it, but I'm pretty sure this sort of activity would trigger attention.
Why would tesla need to be a part of the contract between you and the utility company?
In the same vein - there ARE folks outside the reach of the internet. We have friends that live (modernly) off grid.

Does anyone have a contact at Tesla Energy we can reach out to in order to get the referral reward switched to a credit? I am debating on purchasing the 4 year extended warranty and if I do, it would be optimal to do so within the 180 days from the purchase date of my Model S.

Any suggestions on what to do with the credit. Here are the options I am considering:

Option #1: Use the credit towards getting EAP. Figured this would help the resale value of the car, especially if I do decide to sell it after the warranty runs out. Out of pocket cost would be $500.

Option #2: Buy the 4 year / 50k mile extended warranty. This would cost $4250 if within 180 days (I have until June 21st). It will also require the annual maintenance per the extended warranty contract which would cost $2325 for the 4 year plan (would need to buy this plan twice). Total cost would be $8900 or $2925 out of pocket (also have a $475 service credit from my service center factored into the out of pocket price).

I'm not sure this makes sense. If the annual service plan is absolutely required for the ESA, why don't they bundle the offerings into one price? Is Tesla going to deny all ESA warranty service for anyone who didn't buy the annual service plan? If so, then why even sell the ESA without annual service? Something doesn't add up here.

Tesla is not very specific as they say, "During the agreement period of the Extended Service Agreement, your coverage may be affected if recommended service is not performed." I have not heard of anyone having their warranty void, but I would not want to risk it if I was spending $4,250 for the extended 4 year warranty. As far as why not bundle it together, my guess is this is a marketing strategy as $4,250 seems a lot more reasonable than $8,900 (not to mention the $200 deductible that is in the fine print for each repair that is made during the extended warranty period).

Here is the PowerWall redemption survey form as of today. The name and address fields are not pre-filled. It seems like one can put any address and hence "sell" the reward. Has anyone tried putting in someone else's address and got rejected?

If you read through this thread, you'll see that it doesn't matter what you fill on out that form. The name and other information is ignored by the Tesla Energy division tasked with installing the PW2 awards, and they have made it clear that transfers are not allowed. That form is from the Referral group who just sends out a generic survey form, and at this point apparently still is not aware that the PW2 awards are not transferrable.

To answer your question, yes, I filled out the exact same form over a year ago with the names of my "buyers" and while the Tesla Energy people did see that info on the record, it didn't matter since those people were not me, and I did not own those properties.

I received my referral award survey today and submitted it with my info in it. I would like to ultimately exchange for credit. Any idea on the potential wait time required to be able to request the credit? (My understanding is that I have to wait until Tesla Energy contacts me).
