My kid took a potato peeler to it.I was under the impression your wife drove your car with her nail file in the palm of her hand and managed to cause the yoke to peel?

Makes you wonder why it's a $2000 retrofit but I guess since the software (impossible to do) update was never going to be happen, at least this gets me closer to the car I wanted. With Enhance turn signal stalk, I think I'll be set.And that’s correct. It’s a super easy retrofit.
And they don't even need to install any software if you're on software as far back as even 2023.44.x. Just update the config file by connecting to the car.they can, mobile did my install. Took about 25-30 min. Longer to install the software than the actual install of the new yoke
Yeah it doesn’t really make sense to me that they’re charging $2k for this when the original yoke to steering retrofit was only $700 for a new wheel and airbag.Makes you wonder why it's a $2000 retrofit but I guess since the software (impossible to do) update was never going to be happen, at least this gets me closer to the car I wanted. The CEO clearly either lied or incorrectly believed back in May 2022 that all cars since Nov 2021 just needed a software update, Tesla could have simply corrected that statement. Since they didn't do that quickly (or ever), they could have thrown people a bone and done it for $700-$1,000 even. As long as they broke even with parts and labor costs.Yeah it doesn’t really make sense to me that they’re charging $2k for this when the original yoke to steering retrofit was only $700 for a new wheel and airbag.
I’m going to give it a little more time to see if they offer a more reasonably priced retrofit through the shop in the coming months. But otherwise I’ll probably break down and just do it
Appointment tomorrow and no peeling on mine. Need to peel my yoke for overnight today. Is anyone getting the new center horn Yoke for free without the original yoke having any peeling? I'd like to swap mine out, but not gonna pay 2 grand, sigh...
By rights they should let you keep bothMy install is next week. Will they let you keep the old steering wheel (not the airbag of course)?
I know RPM Tesla sells custom wrapped wheels so maybe I can get $300 of the $2,000 back from the free software update that Elon promised. Turned into a $2,000 hardware update but still. I emailed RPM Tesla to ask.By rights they should let you keep both
Service guy asked if I wanted to keep my original wheel minus the airbagMy install is next week. Will they let you keep the old steering wheel (not the airbag of course)?
They offered me the option to keep my old oneBy rights they should let you keep both
I got to keep my yoke and airbag when I upgraded to the round wheel last year, but I think the airbag was simply because the guy's instructions didn't specifically say I couldn't keep both.My install is next week. Will they let you keep the old steering wheel (not the airbag of course)?
There are some companies that might be interested in buying it as a core for their customizations. But doesn’t seem to be anyone to sell it to even though it’s in perfect shape.
Both wheel and airbag are your property. Tesla can’t take them without your permission. They may have a core charge that you would have to pay. That is my non-lawyer understanding, for what it is worth. My install is next week. Will they let you keep the old steering wheel (not the airbag of course)?
From my understanding, they take the airbag for safety reasons. I can also build a lot of fun *sugar* with non detonated airbagsBoth wheel and airbag are your property. Almost certainly. I wouldn't want to keep that around. From my understanding, they take the airbag for safety reasons
Still bullshit. It’s not illegal to own an airbag. In fact all of us own several within our very cars. From my understanding, they take the airbag for safety reasons. I can also build a lot of fun *sugar* with non detonated airbags
