I notice that Bay Area orders take longer to get VIN's. The good news is that once a VIN id assigned, delivery is almost immediate.

I have the same config as yours, and ordered on 1/17. My EDD is 2/28 to 3/14. I have no issue with waiting. 😄

I expect a lot of deliveries in the Bay Area in March.

I hope you are correct. Does this tend to happen in the past end of quarters as well?

If direct selling is allowed in your state then tesla will take the tax and file the paperwork for you.
If not then it will give you what is required and you have to go to tag office

In New Mexico, tesla goes around state laws by selling via a service center at a Native American reservation which allows direct sales. I noticed that under my "Price Details" section under my finance approval (Tesla finance), they list $2385.20 as sales tax which is priced into my vehicle Total Cost off which they deduct my down-payment and the $250 deposit. Will they collect the tax?

Probably around the time the first payment is due 😀
I would’ve said, by the time you get home and install all the accessories you’ve been hoarding.

I’ve forgotten, since it’s been a while since I got my Model 3. But how long does it take for new Teslas to get their first software update?

My Model 3 is on 2023.2.12
Our new Model Y that we just picked up today is on 2022.44.200
I have the same version. I’m just gonna assume it’s the most current.

not to split hairs but...lr is actually 4.5 sec as they are including .3 sec for rollout whereas on the p they are not. testing from car magazines confirm lr comes in under 4.5sec. one way to make p seem that much faster to increase profit margins.

So would the acceleration boost on the MY LR actually make it 3.9 seconds assuming it does make the 0-60 faster by 0.5-0.6 seconds? If so then that's amazing because then MYLR w/ acceleration boost = 3.9s vs MYP = 3.5s.

Sooo many things can change EDDs dynamically. Just a few of the things I can think of right off hand are:

  • Weather
  • Material shortages
  • Transportation problems (rail or hauler doesn't show up on time causing a shift in logistics)
  • Order changes and cancellations (example: one or more orders scheduled for a rail car or hauler get canceled altering the logistics)
  • Not as many orders as expected for a given delivery location
  • Production problems (unexpected equipment failure or process correction required)
  • Other things I forgot or am not aware of

It's truly mind-blowing to me how two factories can manufacture and distribute nearly a thousand Model Ys per day and deliver them nationwide as efficiently and accurately as they do. There's a lot of collective knowledge at work here.

It's easy for one person to get upset because their order doesn't arrive when expected, but so many things have to come together at exactly the right time to produce the desired result. It's not like Tesla has a giant warehouse filled with 100,000 Model Ys that they can pick and ship for next-day delivery. :) They're having to source materials in near real time to meet the demands of thousands of impatient buyers per day and rely on other companies to do their jobs exactly when expected to make these deliveries happen. A lot can go wrong and it often does.

Each of us thinks our individual orders are more important than they really are. The collective of orders is important, but each of our individual orders isn't even a blip on the radar.

Even before the contingencies you list, there are some manufacturing, margin and FASB accounting fundamentals a car company considers. See my post #4,434.

For comic relief see my post #6,701. And, like me, I'm sure you're happy to not be dealing with my the guys in my post #5,252

Have to ask, do you have any pending tasks in the app?

Have you spoken with CS (888-518-3752) and asked if there any pending action items that you were not aware of or shown in the app that need to be taken care of?

My trade-in was pending an action item that they didn't notify me or show me in the app, trade-in task was complete and accepted, but they needed something from me in order to finalize it on their side. Just an example, not that a trade-in scenario applies to you.

I figure Bay Area orders are generally the last to be fulfilled in a quarter for revrec reasons. I'm fine waiting, its the teasing (torturing?) that I don't like.

SA says there's no problem with the order and VIN should be assigned soon. But of course, I've heard that before

Nothing is pending per the app and the SA.
