pretty hilarious that Elon - who wants to move the world to sustainable energy, less pollution and also predicts robots doing most of our tasks in the future - is so worried about couples having only 1 or no kids. So we need less manual labor and want to protect the environment ... the amount of urban sprawl in Texas and other areas is absolutely insane. not much nature left in order to pump out more and more suburbs...

Two things...

1) Without getting political, just look at which regions of the world are seeing population growth and which ones are not. Draw your own conclusions for what it means for Elon's bizarre freakout over population collapse (which, as noted in this thread, is not a thing that is happening on a global scale).

2) This is also the underbelly of capitalism -> markets expect growth for infinity. If you decrease the # of "worker bees" (as someone said above), you risk output decreasing. As someone who professes to care about the health of the planet, this actually wouldn't be a bad thing (again, if it were happening, but it's not a thing that's happening). So you really do have a push/pull of capitalism vs environmentalism. Should we just burn through all of our natural resources as fast as possible for the sake of profits?

Most global climate policy has focused on the difference between developed and developing countries, and their current and historical responsibility for greenhouse gas emissions. But a growing body of work suggests that a “polluting elite” of those on the highest incomes globally are vastly outweighing the emissions of the poor.

Thing is that productivity per worker keeps going up too. Factory automation is a big thing in developed countries like the US now. The US might end up getting some of the manufacturing back from China because things will be cheaper to make in the US with automated factories. Elon has even talked about that as a goal for making cars.

Elon has also been working to put millions of people who drive vehicles for a living out of work.

With all the automation that is coming, we will need fewer workers not more. Production could then grind to a halt because too few people have money to buy goods. Large numbers of unemployed people are also bad for countries' stability.

Elon's arguments about population decline not only fly in the face of facts, but out of control population growth could also jeopardize civilization itself. He wants to establish a colony on Mars as a backup for civilization in case something catastrophic happens here. What he advocates in several areas could bring about one of those catastrophic collapse scenarios.

Elon Musk’s unannounced, whirlwind tour of Capitol Hill last week had a number of high-profile stops:
A happy birthday visit to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and a sit-down with GOP firebrand Rep. Jim Jordan, among others.

Another anti-Musk plot has failed:

And let's not forget that the so called "legal experts" claimed that he's going to lose just two weeks ago:

Just more evidence that MSM and "experts" has zero credibility when it comes to Musk matters.

So you mean the walls aren’t closing in? 🤭

Well sure was interesting to see what Elon didnt include in the Twitter files that came out during congressional hearings. I wonder why the files didnt mention Twitter changing rules to allow Trump racist tweets to be allowed or Trump contacting Twitter to have tweets removed that were mean to him?
You mean files that were given to congress members instead? 🙂

We now have on the record an alleged violation of the first amendment (at least, as close as you'll get in these social media cases) -> the federal executive branch trying to censor speech they didn't like.

Still haven't heard or read an ounce of outrage about this from the free speech warriors.

The allegation was already there, for like three months or so.

Welcome to the party, friend.

no it wasn't. when the Hunter Biden story broke in October 2020 ... there was NO Biden administration in the WH. Additionally ... the Trump White House (!) asked twitter to take down a tweet as it included an insult. I always thought insults were covered by the 1A?

That’s not a denial that government employees and party officials were involved.

I’ll take a cheese with my pretzel now. 🧀🥨
There is no evidence that government employees or party officials were involved.
Also for it to be a violation of the first amendment there has to be the threat of government power.
You really have narrative that’s completely decoupled from facts.

So we’re just going to ignore that a potential senate candidate and current member of the house recently booted from committee wasn’t asking the birdie for some favors they shouldn’t be asking for? Doesn’t paint such a pretty picture does it?

Now, where’s my pretzel? I’m getting hangry over here!

and was the request granted? no, it wasn't.
the twitter files told us that both Trump WH / Trump administration and elected Democrat officials / campaigns used the twitter "hotlines" to complain and *request* stuff taken down ( for e.g. Hunter Biden nudes (violation of twitter TOS) , insulting tweet from Ms. Teigen against Trump, etc) but most of those requests were denied and there was no GOVERNMENT threat to twitter....

so where's the 1A violation here?

don't expect for some folks here to understand the meaning of 1A.
literally the *only way* for a 1A violation of a private company would be if government threatens that company to do XYZ "or else". Kinda like a certain Florida governor threatening to withhold tax incentives for a sports team if they keep engaging in pro gun control messaging ...

I assume this is what you're talking about:
Anyone can ask Twitter to do anything. For it to be a violation of the first amendment there has to be coercion. I do think that perhaps Twitter should have a policy that communications with elected officials be made public.

People don't understand the 1st amendment. This is the best explanation in this thread. The 1st amendment applies to the government's response to people speaking up on political issues. It does not apply to private organizations. A company or other organization can limit political speech anyway it wants.

All social media platforms have taken down pictures upon request of people in the public eye in compromising positions. Especially when those pictures involve nudity. The pictures inevitably go to the porn sites where they are harder to take down (they are scattered across too many platforms to find them all and send take down requests). I recall some nude pictures of George W Bush's daughters appeared on the web late in his presidency. They were taken down from the social media sites fairly quickly, but I assume they are still out there somewhere.

Nobody claimed 1st amendment violations when those were taken down. The dust up over the requests to take down the more recent pictures is just another political game played by some politicians to try as an attack on another politician. It's all smoke, there is no fire.

Elon Musk has become an unwitting pawn in this game.
