LR RWD Waiting Room

Yup...we knew it was coming. Historically when Tesla moves a configuration “offline” it only stays available for a month or two and then they formally discontinue it. Which means the SR may be likely to follow.

But I predict the LR RWD will make a comeback, as it did this year after being retired at the end of 2018. It’s still the only Model 3 with 325 miles of range, and they have a huge market in California for this model since we don’t need AWD here. But I’m glad everyone got their orders in by now since we did expect this day to come.

Sorry, from what we've heard they did a cut off on all LR RWD orders a week or two ago.

Is the LR RWD still available off menu to order?

ordered my long range rear wheel drive red with black interior 19in wheels, full autopilot and everything 2 days ago and it went through fine. There is quite a bit of misinformation and tesla salespeople who aren't getting the updated info.

I went to an actual place where they could sell the cars and the guy knew full well that you could still order LR RW model 3's but when I went to a showroom only place in a mall 20 mins down the road they had no clue RW LR cars could even still be bought. If you are getting a salesperson being difficult just call the order number and order it over the phone.

like I just posted, I ordered my LR RW Model 3 two days ago loaded and the guy didn't argue with me or say they were gone he knew straight up they could still be bought. Tesla isn't doing a good job educating their salespeople so I think that is why this confusion is happening. For instance I went to a showroom in a mall that could actually do orders and the guy knew everything and ordered it for me. He did say it would take 4-6 weeks though. I then went to a showroom only place in a mall 20 mins away from the other. They had no clue rear wheel drive long range model 3's could even be purchased after april or whenever they took them offline.

I’ll be following this. Definitely my preferred configuration.

I honestly find it tough to believe that they’d consider doing this, and I still find it tough to understand why is was pulled off menu. It has to be one of the most popular configs. Best range and good price.

If this is indeed happening I’ll be keeping a close eye on the used page. LR RWD for the same price as a SR+.

I’m glad you were able to order it, but I will say that they didn’t produce it since April until the past weekend. Based on reporting I don’t think they’ll do anymore. If you don’t get matched in a couple days, be prepared.

That being said, they still overproduce a bit so you can most likely find inventory. If there is extra of your config. However, I just want to keep in mind that even though you can still order it, you might not have made it in time.

Just talked to my delivery specialist. Apparently, my car was built on 6/15, and has HW3. That's the good news. The bad news is that it's not on a truck yet and it's not scheduled to arrive in Denver until 6/21, with an assigned pickup date of 6/20. So I'll have to figure out a new date once he confirms when it will really arrive.

I know, I know... minor details. But man, I was looking forward to picking it up Thursday.

Its more of an art than a science, but you can sort of see the interplay of the particular configuration and distance playing out. Kenshin in Sacramento is probably later in line because of being close to Fremont.

Recall that last week the first thing that happened was Tesla searched all inventory and found some in Canada and those got re-routed, but it looked to me like all were re-routed to the east. New builds started coming off the line Friday/Saturday.

Then its down to something we don't know, which is, assuming about 900 to 1,000 can be built in a day, how many LR RWD orders are actually out there? No one knows that.

And anything stated by a sales person has to be treated as an estimate. Sales people at Tesla are in a situation unlike any other car manufacturer, no other manufacturer (of non-exotics) has a waiting list which numbers in the thousands, or tens of thousands, and no other car manufacturer's model depends on customers buying directly from the factory.

And, let's say there are 1,000 sales/delivery people (at least) and maybe a handful of people in management who actually know which cars are being produced that day. When you think about it, no manager could handled 1,000 calls a day or 1,000 emails a day all asking a variation of the same question.

Sure, I would have liked to not have had to look up my VIN in the source code, but its just another part of the interesting story that is Tesla.

Well shoot, probably won't be able to pick my car up till the 29th. I was given 22nd as the earliest date. I'm going on a week long trip that afternoon. I signed up for the 1030 am slot - would absolutely need to leave tesla at noon. I called today to see if I can move it up, they said no, it's on a truck scheduled to be delivered 22nd. But they'll call me if it comes in early which happens for every fourth delivery per the person on the phone. Also said that if it does get delivered on the 22nd, I most likely won't be able to get it for the first appointment which I'm assigned to. The truck usually comes to that center around 2pm. Grrr. Hopefully they won't reassign my car because I have to delay delivery for 1 week. I wonder if my dad can pick it up for me - but I'd rather not
