Wiki Model S Delivery Update

Anyone concerned with the continued rumors of AP2 coming out by the end of this year? I was all gung ho to order this week before the referral program ended but now I am concerned and may wait.

I know that "if you always wait for the next thing to order a Tesla you will never order a Tesla" but this is a pretty significant update that I would kick myself forever in missing.

Last time the referral program ended they introduced the redesign. They are opening the gigafactory at the end of the month and would be prime introduction time soon.

Decisions,decisions!!!

There is no regulatory framework for fully autonomous cars. Even if they put some form of hardware changed autopilot 2.0 in the car later this year it is unlikely to provided any significant increase in current levels of autonomy for quite some time. If you are comfortable with replacing your car in the 3-4 year time window I don't think there is any reason to delay your order. At that point you could just get a model 3 and the trade in won't be quite as painful as for another model s.

disclaimer: I have no insider information on this.

After reading more about possible enhancements, it doesn't sound like the huge leap we are all waiting for with AP but more of a next big step in the process getting to the end goal of autonomy as you stated which I agree is 2-4 years off.

I need more reassurance and hugs from current Tesla owners and order holders like this. :)

All rumored at this point, but AP 2.0 implies another camera that will look for stop signs and traffic lights. Regardless of what they end up doing, do you really want the car to make those decisions for you? I hear of another AP accident in PA this morning where it hit a gurad rail and rolled over. No one hurt thankfully. A model X. Will be interested to hear if AP was truly on or if the driver intervened (or was potentially watching a movie also). Bottom line, as you mention, if you wait, there will always be something new and better. I decided last month that it has vastly improved from when the car was first released (and i had a reservation for). And so now was the time to join the family and enjoy an electric (vs an ICE) future.

Now if i could only enter production, the wait is killing me....

I put that my car entered production on July 4 just because that is when I first noticed the update on the My Tesla page. I'm assuming that it actually entered production just before they shut down for the holiday weekend. Or perhaps the system was automatically updating to fill the production queue in anticipation of the line starting back up today. Dunno.

When I checked this morning, my delivery window now says July 27 - August 10. I think that my car actually entered production today, based on that update. I really hope they can beat that estimate. Most people are reporting a week for actually assembly which would leave them 2 to 4 weeks to ship and prep the car for delivery. Even on a train, that seems excessive.

I only noticed that my car entered production on July 4. Today, only 2 days later, it is DONE and out of the factory. I may have not noticed that it went "in production" before July 4. But others have said the factory was actually closed from June 30 to July 6 (which is probably not true, because my car got built at some point on or before today, and it was not "in production" on June 30).

Today they also changed my delivery window from "Late July - August" to "July 25, 2016 - August 8, 2016".

I'm not sure what this means for you, but there it is.

Sorry if this is an item answered multiple times here but couldn't find much and I don't think I am operating that spread sheet correctly, but on average after how long after an order is placed are you assigned a VIN#?

Placing an order will not get you a VIN. You must at least confirm the order.

I think I got my VIN as soon as I confirmed. I didn't manually confirm though. I just let the 7 day window to change my design (without extra charge) run out, which auto confirmed my order.

You cannot logically get a VIN before you confirm because the VIN is composed of codes, some of which directly relate to what type of car is actually built (e.g. size of battery, dual or single motors), which cannot be known before you confirm.

When I meant place order I didn't detail it go through the confirmation process so yes, I am hoping it is within 12-14 days at the least that you get your VIN#.

From my understanding, you cannot request the 7 day period to be waived any longer and it is mandatory to wait now so I will build that in automatically.

I am in my 7 day waiting period and I see no way to "confirm now". I would if I could!

How are they ever going to make 400K 3's at this rate?
I waited 35 days from confirmation to production, that is too long!

I waited (at most) 12 days from confirmation to "in production" (my car may have actually entered production earlier than I noticed or the system reported.

I waited 14 days from confirmation to my car actually leaving the factory (TODAY!). It's sitting outside now, waiting for shipping people to schedule it for a train.

Maybe they're speeding up?

That's probably me. Can confirm 6/30 was my factory production notice, and not factory queue. Still, not sure what to expect. My delivery specialist told me prior to June 30 that I could expect to enter production sometime in mid-July. If the email notification and website status is accurate, they managed to get me in significantly earlier than delivery specialist thought.

I confirmed June 22 and had a VIN by 23.

I'm in Toronto, Ontario.

My car was "in production" by July 4 at the latest (that's the first time I noticed that status).

My car is fully built now and out of the factory, waiting for shipping (according to my DS as of a half hour ago). Today is July 6.

Maybe it was in production earlier. Or maybe they're really building them in 2 days now.

My delivery window changed from "Late July - August" to "July 25 - August 8" today.

Regardless, my delivery window is still July-Early August, and my DS is still saying it will be last week in July at the earliest. I don't like his pessimism ;). I'm going to apply for financing (Alliant) today, and my DS said they would do my trade-in appraisal next week or the week after.

I am really suspicious of the repeated claim that the factory was closed until today.

Like you, I only first noticed my "in production" status on July 4.

So either:

1. my car was actually being built last week, and then sat doing nothing from June 30 to today but the web site didn't show "in production" until it was actually already built

OR

2. the factory was actually open, and they are building them in 2 days now.

My delivery window changed from "Late July - August" to "July 25 - August 8" today. I'm in Toronto.
