Wiki Model S Delivery Update

I also got my VIN much later than others on the spreadsheet, and yea the wait was really unbearable!

We ordered our MS 60D in late December (CA, Sunnyvale), estimated delivery March - Early April. I got my VIN 9 days after oder confirmation. My in-law ordered his P100D on the same day, but got his VIN 3-4 days earlier than us.

To be honest, I don't think there's anything you can do to expedite the VIN assignment. I emailed our delivery specialist, but he simply told us to check MyTesla. I checked MyTesla > 3 times a day compulsively to the point that I wonder if I was abnormal.

How did I get through the "long" wait? Check this forum >3 times a day, watch Tesla videos on Youtube, read Teslarati, read the Tesla sub-reddit...

Now I've finally received the VIN, and the real long wait for production begins. But I'm running out of Tesla things online to keep myself preoccupied!!

I'm thinking the 60 model has the lowest priority.. =.=" I'm on the same boat.. read trough every single documents available on my tesla page, several times over.. checked my Tesla page >3x a day, go through this forum 10x a day..

The wait is insane..

They build european delivered cars in the beginning of the quarter first. It may take 2 months to get yours.

I ordered mine toward the middle of the quarter and it was delivered a month later.

I didn’t know they have order for different markets - in which quarter they build and deliver the cars.

Do you know if there is any difference in waiting for custom build or regular edition?

This wait is so painful...I ordered/Confirmed my S 90D back in 30 Nov 16. And yes, I did ask for a delay in delivery (February) ...but shoot, I was hoping the get it within the first week of the month. Here it is 27 Jan and all I got was my VIN back on Christmas morning.:(

Tons of good deals in the inventory base right now. ev-cpo.com

You may be able to convince your DS to transfer your order to an inventory car and even get somewhat of a discount and get it faster. Yesterday's inventory "dump" shows a good variety of models, colors and capacities.

Any early estimates for Q1 for S & X? Early look at S appears to be tracking for about 10,000. I have no idea about X. There could be up to 5,000 cars in transit they plan on clearing out as well. Tracking seems more foggy than usual, so opportunity to be off by 2nd or 3rd standard deviation seems almost probable, rather than possible.

People will "hate" me for saying this but I really have started to believe that the words "in-transit" are a type of "overalling" word. Meaning - since they sell inventory from the lot in all locations - those cars will eventually "all be sold". I think in-transit means "our inventory book" at the end of the quarter. All inventory is "in-transit" looking for their eventual customer. And custom-orders certainly have a customer name on them, so they are part of the overall in-transit package. They never qualify what in-transit really means nor have fully qualified that "net new order" includes those done by in-house sales to move inventory out to the sales locations as well as custom orders for named customers.

No idea on this quarter but I suspect slightly less than Q4, 2016. Waiting for another 2 weeks of "data" to be sure. But again, lots of inventory is listed now publicly and many on discount, including de-rating many 75D to become 60D and $8500 discount on the price. Discounted inventory is useful for the primary number seen by analysts - unit-sales. They should be reviewing ASP, days-of-inventory, financial numbers, debt versus future revenue potential and other things. unit-sales is critical and turning discounted inventory is sometimes more important than driving full-price custom orders.

It’s very interesting all about this de-rating and discount thing.

Are this discounts only for new orders or are you talking about the orders that were already placed in?

cars arrive with window stickers on the driver's side upper corner of the windshield. They will say either "Customer", "Marketing" or "Inventory". If not-Customer, they would fall into the categories of loaner/demo and inventory sales. Ask around or visit a larger Tesla sales location such as Chicago and Paramus and they will have numerous inventory cars waiting to be sold. It's the right thing to do. Without inventory, total sales would be lower.

Congrats! When do you take delivery?

Not sure. I have no clue of the process. I didn't get any documentation, sales rep said I'll receive details in email, yet I haven't. I tried resetting password on MyTesla, never got email.

I never logged into Mytesla, eventhough I have M3 reservation since March '16, and I can't find any trace of confirmation for my M3 ever. Didn't bother me enough to get to the bottom of it before, but now it does.

I've noticed in the past number of companies having issue with my email address: [email protected], last name being my real last name. Some email parsers made by lazy developers think syntax is wrong, which it's not (I am an actual expert on this :); I think I recall having issue first time I tried scheduling tesla test drive too, it could be that part of their system can't deal with my email syntax. I'll have to do something... It bothers me because I haven't seen small prints yet :)

Picked up my 90D today...kids loved riding in the back! Car is in absolutely perfect! Kudos to the Cincinnati service center!

The color is midnight silver. I confirmed the order on 11/27. The delivery was estimated at Late December/January...they hit that target by a few days. It seems a lot faster than what I test drove (75D) which was a nice surprise. Also, the all glass roof is nice. Stock radio sounds nice after you adjust the equalizer (crank up the bass/treble). Glad I didn't upgrade the audio....was really concerned about "anticipointment" as I have been on the board and checking mytesla.com. It's finally here and better than I thought it would be. Also - glad I got the premium upgrade. Didn't do air suspension -
Kids seats are nice than I thought too a didn't get to see that either on the test drive!
