Wiki Model S Delivery Update

I have been keeping track of VIN number assignments by quarter since we have started logging them here on TMC. What I can tell you is that last quarter, JAN-FEB-MAR the number of VIN's assigned by day (90 days) was 134 or a ranking of 6th in the all time stack of quarters.

Now so far this quarter.... with fairly sparse data (you guys are for the most part NOT entering data into the spreadsheets).... and after the 2016 Upgrade the VIN numbers assigned by day is 183 which is an all time ranking of 1 or first. There are quite a few factors that will play out to smooth the data over time.

So what does this mean? About 50 more Model S are being ordered per day, every day, than the previous quarter and at a current historical high rate.

Art, the ev-cpo web site seems to be showing a build-up in inventory cars - over 600 worldwide. You can include those inventory cars in the Vin # growth during Q1. Some locations have more inventory on the lot than they used to. Inventory can be attractive to weekend buyers and also they were helped by the ABL (asset backed loan) to help pay for a build-out of inventory. Count the # of worldwide sales locations and multiply by maybe 15 or more to determine a solid level of inventory cars that could be built within the set of Vin numbers you're seeing.

It almost seems as though they made a ton of "classic" cars to eat up inventory to clear the docket for the "2.0" model. Although some folks did manage to get "new old" cars before this slowing or stopping of production.

Inventory cars have, for the last two quarters, been made near the end of a quarter to apparently and hopefully satisfy the first month drought in the US. The first 4 to 6 weeks of a quarter, the Fremont production line "appears" to be devoted to ASIA/PAC and EURO production with very few if any USA destination S cars being made. Then at about week 7 or so USA production starts. If you guys look back, pretty much each quarter there is an order following thread (NOT THIS ONE BTW as you guys are using it, sigh) where someone assigns a title MY MODEL S HAS BEEN PUSHED BACK...

There, in that thread, other expectant S owners gather, wring their hands, fret, sweat, swear, sneer and berate their delivery specialists.... last quarter, the tightly wound starter of such a thread sadly and actually cancelled his order...

The consumption of "classic" nose parts and diffusers and rockers may have been an impetus for Tesla to make room for the 2016 Updated S. Who knows.... sounds good to me...

Are you still using a Google Doc spreadsheet? Link in 2nd post is wrong and points to a closed spreadsheet. Can you post a correct link with updates like this, or do we contact you with details?

Stopped by my local Tesla store today since my order will confirm on Monday and was really excited to see the updated Model S. It's stunning.

Nice! I went to the Stanford store today armed with a camera and a crowbar to yank at the license plate :) .. but they didn't have one yet :(.

They said they were hoping to get one today but nothing yet.

Hi ChrisJ:
Thanks for the effort... When you use the link and get to that spreadsheet, you will see various tabs for other sheets, please look for the 2016 APR/MAY/JUNE spreadsheet to enter your data. If you click on its tab it will open and will be unlocked.

Sadly, since the forum software was changed many WiKi's have been kiboshed and those of us who used to maintain them no longer have access. Thus we cannot point the link to the open tab. Perhaps the moderators will fix this??
