Yup. Each set has a tag with the VIN#. The cars on the line either had a cone on top with the number written on it or a white sheet of paper with the VIN taped to it (depending on where it was on the line). The plant was quite busy. Unfortunately I didn't get a parcel shelf
That's awesome DrC!
Interesting the bit about "seats up to #1500"...how did you figure that out? Are they labeled with which car they belong to?
Is there an "alpha" code change anywhere in the VIN for Sig vs. Prod?Interesting. I thought that they would start the VIN numbers at 1 again for the production vehicles since they reset to 1 for the break between the Founders and Signatures.
Ooo! Careful, there. Sibling rivalry and jealousy is sometimes very dangerous stuff! On a side note, my Roadster must have sensed this coming and had a nervous breakdown. Yesterday morning I got in it to go and it was "dead"...no start, no screens, no beeps...nada!...except for headlights and coolant circulation pump. It was hauled off to the L.A. service center last night.

I got the call this evening (on 10/19), which was both good news and bad news. Good news because they said my Model S is ready for delivery tomorrow (10/20)!!! I am Sig reservation #566, VIN #452 and I live in Berkeley and will take delivery at the factory. The bad news is that I am on a plane at 8:00 am PDT tomorrow morning, won't get back until late Tuesday, and have conflicts on Wednesday and Thursday - Bummer!!! Looks like delivery for me will be on Friday October 26th (need to confirm that with Tesla). However, very glad the wait is over, and it gives me something really great to look forward to when I get back.
FYI - my dleivery window was 10/5 to 10/19, so if I were able to take delivery tomorrow it would have been a delay of 1 day! There is hope!
Interesting...that might help explain how some P reservations have gotten a VIN. I should have seat # 1077 or so...
Tesla seems to have reserved the P012xx series for marketing cars, so I'd guess that customer P vehicles will start at 1300.You're forgetting the Canadian Sigs. Canadians will be S01xxx and GP cars will be P012xx up. VINs don't match reservation numbers in many cases but your number should be around ~P01277
And, FWIW (and Alex did place that caveat there), when he pulled up our car's production status (using the Salesforce.com app that my wife helped build btw ), a single date of 11-20-2012 showed up with no VIN yet. He said that the correct production status is pushed to the front-end CRM systems from time to time and that I shouldn't be reading too much into this...
The wonderful Tesla folks there - Alex, Dani, Dan - treated us with such bonhomie and were so understanding of all the frustration on these forums that I felt guilty to the core .
I've heard there's a bunch of rumors circulating around TMC on the legitimacy of the picture I sent you, so allow me to set the record straight. Yes, it is definitely a picture of your car and it was taken by my Delivery Territory Manager during a visit to Fremont. Furthermore, the forensic scientists over at TMC are correct in their analysis that it was captured on October 10th far ahead of the actually shipment date. I'll admit that the wording of my email may have been a tad misleading as I was giving you a delivery and including a picture of your car though the picture itself was actually taken when the car was in quality control (aka "burn in") not when it was waiting to get loaded on to the truck.
So kudos to the TMC investigators!
Latest delivery update: My car is currently en route and I have an ETA for it's arrival in Tampa next week. I don't want to post the date because the transporter has stops to make between CA and FL, so those of you who have cars pending on a long distance transport please make sure you accept delivery promptly and send that truck driver off on his/her way.
