Wiki Model S Delivery Update

I have a firm delivery date now, Monday 10/22 at the Costa Mesa service center. After Monday I will have to find something new to obsess about.

For those keeping score: MVPA says October, initial window 9/28-10/12, actual delivery 10/22. I'd give Tesla a solid A-.

Sig#517: non-Performance, Pearl White, Tan Interior, Obeche Matte, Pano Roof.

From the 8-K report:

So adding the third and fourth quarter results that would be a year-end target of deliveries of between 2,700 and 3,225.

My point is that Baltimore Tesla's delivery window supposedly now extends to December 14th. If his car is the 1000th and if it is delivered on that extremely unlikely worst case date, then Tesla would only have a little over two weeks to meet their target of between 2,700 and 3,225 deliveries. Delivering between 1,700 and 2,225 cars in two weeks would mean at the minimum producing cars at more than twice the target 2013 production rate of around 400 per week.

I have a hard time believing that if we were to ask Elon Musk is it likely that the 1000th car could be delivered on December 14th that he would say, "Yes, its possible." I have to believe that the delivery specialist has gotten this wrong.

Larry

P.S. Although I think the delivery specialist has gotten this wrong, its important to say that he's probably off by just 2-3 weeks. If the 1000th car is delivered in late November it would still be mathematically possible for Tesla to hit its lower target range IF it was able to achieve its 400 cars per week rate at the end of November.

Tesla has reiterated (GB's post) that Sig's will be produced first before the GP's; however that does not mean Tesla intended for all Sigs to be delivered prior to any GPs deliveries. If indeed Sig 1000 is going to Baltimore, MD, almost the furthest travel distance from the factory, at least two factors could enter into GP's getting their cars before his delivery. The seven day travel distance which during this time closer GPs would be delivered; the economies of delivering a full truck load of cars to the MD area(rather than 1 car only) which could delay his delivery until a full truck load of GPs and any area Sigs were ready.

So, to summarize, even if the last Sig delivery was as late as mid December that doesn't preclude GP deliveries from already taking place and already starting in November. That would provide Tesla at least a 4 week window to deliver on their target.

Why do you think it's an unlikely worst case?

Nothing so far has indicated dates anyone has received are optimistic. So far all the dates have hit the worst case or missed the dates completely. Tesla needs to start hitting dates before those dates have any real credibility.

Congratulations, weccman! Did you try playing Brahms (damn you, now I've got the Variations running through my head on auto-repeat:wink:) through the Bluetooth? Works like a charm, and it'll display your album art up on the 17" touch screen and/or the instrument cluster. As far as I know the USB ports don't provide connectivity, just DC, plenty for recharging an iphone but not enough amperage for an iPad.

You are probably right, but the manual says: "Plug a portable audio device or flash drive into either of the USB connections located on the front of the center console. On the touchscreen, select Media > Browse> My Music and Devices. The contents of your device are displayed." They were not.

There's your problem right there: reading the manual...

Awesome! Glad to see the delay was only a week and a half. Did they give you a VIN yet?

I was under the impression, from other posts by owners, that the feature was currently disabled, along with Hard Drive storage and Wifi transfer.

True, but in the best case scenario where all those General Production deliveries were occurring in California, that will only buy you about a week or so of additional production.

For one thing I also have a high Signature reservation number of 1232 and my worst case date is November 23rd. If there are 67 reservations between Baltimore Tesla and me, in order for him to to receive his car on December 14th Tesla would have to slow down production to about 23 cars per week.

While a few of our Florida club members have seen significant delays, some have received on-time or early deliveries. One member with a reservation number over 1000 received delivery more than a week ago. So we shouldn't say all dates have been missed.

Perhaps I am being overly optimistic, but Tesla just revised their production schedule a mere three weeks ago and at that time they were forecasting a minimum of 2,700 cars. So if they were to now state that there was a high probability of slipping the last Signature to mid-December, that would be tanamount to admitting another significant slipagge in just three weeks.

Don't get me wrong, like others I have my doubts Tesla will hit their revised target, but I think it is unlikely they will miss it by a huge margin. Slipping the delivery of the last Signatures to mid-December would of course mean that Tesla missed their revised target by a huge margin.

I just retested my memory stick with about 1500 songs on it. They showed up on the screen listed by genre, artist, album or song. I would have posted sooner but was busy listening to the Album Laid by James. That and several other songs to test out the balance and tone. Sounded great to a half deaf old army heicopter pilot. Never got to 11 tho. Too much even for me.

The eagle has landed. Picked up my S #272 this afternoon at the factory. On the tour I saw up to car #700 on the floor and seats for car #1500. The firmware that is supposed to let me use the SuperChargers on my drive home tomorrow morning is supposed to download tonight. Here's a pic of me and some friends taking delivery.

That's awesome DrC!
Interesting the bit about "seats up to #1500"...how did you figure that out? Are they labeled with which car they belong to?
Yup. Each set has a tag with the VIN#. The cars on the line either had a cone on top with the number written on it or a white sheet of paper with the VIN taped to it (depending on where it was on the line). The plant was quite busy. Unfortunately I didn't get a parcel shelf :(
