So I might actually be dying waiting! Has anyone ever heard of them holding onto your car in the status "in production" until closer to a date you asked for? I stupidly (blaming on my girlfriend) told my OA that I wanted my car for my birthday even though MyTesla says earliest delivery date. Well, it's been in production since 3/23...21 days!!!! and we are coming up on the birthday on the 28th and I feel like a small child anxiously waiting for their birthday presents and all I keep saying is "I WANT IT NOWWWWWWW!"

Hear you. Our car finished earlier than expected and it ended up sitting at the delivery location for what seemed like an eternity until hubby could arrange the Friday off to pick it up. All week he was like my car's just sitting there...:(. I felt the anxiety and longing too (never as excited about any other car). As for the long production time, having been through the wait and watching along with other's cars the MyTesla updates and emails are sometimes off being sent or received. Some people have even commented on receiving them all within a day or so of each other (from completed to arrived at delivery location) so it can suddenly surprise you and be there waiting for you! Enjoy the anticipation. But the drives even better :D.

Hi so sorry to hear about your loss but glad that you are on a mend. Certainly buying one through the inventory is the quickest way, hope that there is one available that has all the options/choices you are looking for. I did look at the inventory and came very close to buying one that had everything I was looking for except for the color of the seats. I ended up ordering MS 100D. Here is the timeline: Order placed 3/17/2017, confirmed 3/24/2017, production start 4/7/2017, production complete 4/8/2017, and pickup on 4/18/2017; that is a total of 32 days. Hope this helps, wishing you a quick recovery.

Surprise, Surprise, all pleasant. TESLA ended the agonizing wait. Changed my delivery from 4/18/2017 to 4/13/2017. So my Order to Delivery time frame is shortened by an additional 5 days. That is a total of 27 days now. TESLA sure does believe in beating the expectations.

For those of you about to take delivery - if you can manage to remember in all the excitement and hubbub of first setting eyes on your brand new baby, check to make sure the windshield washer reservoir has fluid in it. Tesla Factory or Tesla Service missed filling the the windshield washer reservoir before handing over the car to me. Of course, I found out at the most inopportune time.

Happy and safe driving, everyone!

I rented an S and when I went to use the washer fluid I though it was empty. Filled it up to the top but it didn't take much. Turned out I wasn't pressing the washer fluid button hard enough. Don't know if you did the same thing or not but figured I'd mention it.

You know what, I fear a mea culpa coming on my part. I just topped up the reservoir not ten minutes ago. It too didn’t take very much. I’ll have to try what you said, when the windscreen is once again good and filthy - like the driver.

Thanks for the tip.

How far in advance did everyone's Delivery Specialist contact you to set up delivery? A week before? More?

Mine in San Diego was particularly anxious to get mine to me right after my car came out of production. She called on a Thursday to tell me that the car I ordered was to be put on a transporter bound for Southern California that Friday morning. There was every possibility that I could take delivery of the car by the very following Saturday afternoon if I so chose, and if she “pushed it” with the transporters. For sure I could take delivery of the vehicle on the Monday. So, four days for sure from the time she called to set up the appointment, with a possible delivery time as early as two days.

In the end, because of my work schedule, I waited until the Tuesday to take delivery. Five days altogether in my case.

Additional note - I just noticed you’re writing from Charlotte NC. For transcontinental deliveries, your DES may call you, issuing the proviso that your car will not arrive for another week or so. Upon arrival, the delivery centre will want at least half a day to “prep” your car before turning it over to you.

mine did not contact me until the car arrived at the service center. Think it arrived on saturday and they called me monday and i setup a friday delivery because i still did not have my purchase agreement that PenFed needed to send me a check. In all fairness they were super busy/swamped from the end of Q1 so they probably didn't have time to deal with little ol me.

I just yesterday put in a custom order for an S75D and they are saying mid to late June. That'd be ~60 days. I can't help but notice all the recent 23-32 day posts on here and be a little optimistic about a much shorter timeline.

Question - For those of you who went through it, did they initially way under promise and over deliver?
It seems like they're pretty accurate once they give you a specific date, but was the specific date significantly earlier than your initial rough estimate timeline?

Crossing my fingers for before labor day weekend... Have a nice road trip planned.

My 42 day wait was excruciating. But I do remember being very surprised about how quickly the car showed up in the end. With an initial order placed on the 9th of February, the very first delivery estimate given was mid-April. I really didn’t expect to take delivery of the vehicle as soon as I did, on the 21st of March. I was the one who delayed the acceptance of the car by two days, because of my work schedule.

I ordered 2/25/2017
VIN assigned 3/5/2017
Production start 3/23/2017
and in limbo ever since...

Now my DS said it usually takes less than a week to get a car produced, inspected and onto a transport. Guess she's (the car) being a bit stubborn and just doesn't want to come out and see the world. Best of luck! Sounds like most people get them quickly and you're on the East coast, so history says you should get it sooner rather than later.

Sorry to hear about your experience.

New Model S 60D owner here. I first stepped into a Model S three years ago. I still remember it very clearly…the second my friend accelerated – I was like wow…this feels like a rollercoaster!!!! That feeling lived with me. My sister bought a MS last year and she told me not to test drive the car unless I am ready to get one! A few months ago, my wife and I went to the Tesla gallery and were blown away. Just like many of you, after the first few minutes of the test drive, I was hooked. And my wife, surprisingly (not a car person), was hooked too.

Bill @ Huntington, NY Tesla, is friendly, thorough and so helpful. He always made himself available and answered all of my (million) questions. I constantly stared at myTesla page and email just like many of you. I've never seen myself obsessed with anything like this! I won’t hide it, I went for second and third test drives due to my impatience. Constantly trolled the forums. Setting up the delivery with David and Steve @ Americana mall, NY Tesla was very smooth. They also made themselves available and got things done very promptly. These three guys really made the process easy, comfortable and memorable. And they continue to help! They really shine. A huge thanks to them. I was supposed to take delivery during the first week of April but wanted to help the Tesla Q1 numbers.

Delivery day on 3/31 was awesome. We brought them a box of donuts for all of their hard work. We finally got our car and they hooked up the swag! Also, can't forget, a big thanks to everyone on this forum as well –many of my questions were answered by you guys on previous posts. A few weeks later, I still have that grin. We are very lucky to be driving these beautiful machines!! So happy and grateful to have joined the club and this community.

Do you know if your car is in Atlanta yet? I was supposed to pick mine up on Wednesday 4/19, but the truck carrying them had mechanical problems and now my delivery date is 4/25. I'm also in Atlanta and picking up in Marietta. I wonder if your car is on the same truck.
