Wiki Model S Delivery Update

My understanding is that Texas does not have a tax reciprocity agreement with California, so I would end up paying sales tax in both states. Though because my trade is worth almost the entire value of the Tesla, my sales tax should be very low or zero. I'm just not sure if that would be the case in both California and Texas, or if things work differently when doing an out of state delivery.
California does not give a tax credit for trade in. So be careful here. I would call the CA DMV and the TX DMV and tell them both what you are doing and then compare notes.

I picked up my new Tesla S75D last Saturday in Fremont CA. The car is awesome but it was dirty around the sides and cracks??? The car was custom ordered, so why was it dirty when I picked it up? They should have done a better job detailing it, but it was beautiful other wise. Loving the feeling of driving it, and the people looking at it.

SO happy its finally here and I'm driving it.

Picked mine up on Thursday 9/28. Mined seemed to be detailed. I may not have looked as closely as you did.

I did not purchase the PUP Option.

If you did not purchase PUP check and make sure that your car has adaptive headlights. Its a standard feature now

The issue may be a little more complex than this....

There's a long discussion going on in this thread.

But one of the key posts is quoted here:
I posted this same info on the Model S thread. It probably applies to the X as well...
------------------------------------------------------------------

So, I have received clarification from my Service Center. My car is configured and built correctly.

Basically, as of the most recent configuration changes, the three-position dynamic LED turning lights ( within fog lights) are standard. The full LED adaptive headlamps with 14 three-position LED dynamic turning lights (within headlamps) are not standard and are still part of the Premium Upgrades Package (even though it doesn't mention them anymore).

The three-position refers to left, center, and right positions, not 3 LED positions. When turning left the left fog light LED turns on, when center both are off, and when turning right, the right fog light LED turns on.

In a nutshell:

Before Configuration Update:
PUP: Dynamic LED Fog Lamps & Dynamic LED Headlamps
Non-PUP: No Dynamic Features

After Configuration Update:
PUP: Dynamic LED Fog Lamps & Dynamic LED Headlamps
Non-PUP: Dynamic LED Fog Lamps

As I somewhat expected, what is now standard on the post July based model is the rather weak fog light based dynamic cornering LED light, that turns on as you turn into it. The fancier Adaptive 14 LED dynamic turning lights on the headlamp assembly, with the option to turn on or off, is NOT standard.

I'll leave it to the forum to debate Tesla's poor use of the same feature name to describe essentially two different features, essentially resulting in unnecessary confusion and grief for many folks.

For those of you who got the adaptable LED headlights, what did it say on the window sticker? I take delivery next week and this is all it says on the sticker for the lights that I just got via email:

Note, I did not get the PUP.

EXTERIOR
LED daytime running lights
LED headlights
LED rear taillights and high-mounted LED stop lamp
Side turn signals, side marker lights and rear reflex lights

EDIT: Seems like this might be more of an X issue but I'm trying to figure out exactly what the front of my S should look like with regards to what I am supposed to get.

This is exactly what the Model S page says so it appears the PUP should have no effect:

Safety

  • Active safety technologies, including collision avoidance and automatic emergency braking
  • Electric All-Wheel Drive for maximum efficiency and traction
  • Daytime running lights
  • Three-position dynamic LED turning lights
  • LED fog lights
  • Eight airbags for driver and passenger heads, knees, and pelvis plus two side curtain airbags
  • Electronic stability and traction control
  • Four wheel antilock disc brakes with electronic parking brake
  • Three second row LATCH attachments for child seat installations (accommodates three child seats simultaneously: two with LATCH and one with top tether and belt)
Premium Upgrades adds
  • HEPA air filtration system
  • Custom audio system featuring 11 speakers with neodymium magnets
  • XM satellite radio capability
  • Heated seats throughout the cabin
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Wiper blade defrosters
  • Washer nozzle heaters

The issue is WHAT constitutes "Three-position dynamic LED turning lights" that was supposed to be standard since July on S and X. My Service Center implies that the weak light in the fog light assembly of the S IS that feature, instead of the extra 3 LED row in the headlight assembly, which is how it is for the Premium Upgrade Package. However, for the X owners, the fog light assembly does not have that extra LED, so unless they get the adaptive headlight assembly, they have NO turning lights at all, contrary to the specs. It appears ALL non Premium Upgrade Ss and Xs delivered recently DO NOT have the adaptive headlight assembly, and that is the issue we are trying to get clarification from Tesla about...

That is a bs response to cover their tracks. The adaptive headlights are supposed to be standard on the model S now, more than just the fog light. I even went online and spoke to the expert chat specialist to ask this question and detail what I would be getting standard now if I ordered a new custom car. They know exactly what it's supposed to be. The fog light was their initial response to try to get this to blow over. That didn't work and now we are waiting on their next response.

In addition, this is what the Model S page also says about the lights:

Adaptive Lighting
Model S now features full LED adaptive headlamps. Besides enhancing the already great styling, they also boost safety: 14 three-position LED dynamic turning lights improve visibility at night, especially on winding roads.

So it seems that the S definitely should have them standard, as you say.

Picked up my car on Thursday in Freemont, CA. Delivery center was a mess with EOQ, and nothing was ready. So we left and went to our factory tour and came back. BTW If you haven't done a factory tour, you need to.... Very cool.. By the time we got back to the delivery center everything was ready and we were quickly rushed through taking delivery.

I will write a full post later with more details, as we did a 1000 mile road trip back to Seattle which was AWESOME, and no better way to get to know the car. Car is off getting tint and some wrap so attaching the pictures I have. The car is amazing, very comfortable and just fun to drive.
