Wiki Model S Delivery Update

I finally completed the purchase of my 2022 MSLR on Saturday, 380 days after placing an order. The vehicle was in great shape - almost no issues. No missing parts, no distorted glass, no paint flaws. Panel alignments look good. I do have the "worm" under the airbag cover on the yoke but don't find it annoying. I only see it in certain lighting situations.

I almost did not leave with the car because of a payment issue. Tesla uses Plaid as their online payment processor. I had planned on inspecting the car then transferring funds for payment if all went well. While the inspection went well, Plaid failed on the final step of the payment process. I could link to my credit union, select the correct account (displaying accurate balances so I know the connection succeeded) but Plaid would not accept my Routing Number and/or Account Number. My credit union was aware of the problem with Plaid and had a work-around but it would not work with the Tesla-Plaid payment setup. I was able to obtain a cashier's check and completed the purchase a few hours later. In hindsight, I wish I had arrived with a cashier's check. My SA was great and tried everything he could to help with the payment frustration.

I was surprised to find out that Tesla has a policy that you can't drive the vehicle until after payment. Thankfully, driving the vehicle did not uncover any problems.

My VIN was older - NF477 - and my build date was in late April. I do believe what I was told - the vehicle was at the factory waiting for parts. Mileage was in single digits when delivered. Just a guess, but there might have been more attention to quality at that time. I'm glad my car isn't being rushed out the factory door for the end-of-quarter craziness.

Once I figure out how to make Sirius/XM work, all will be fine. I suspect the problem is with Sirius/XM since I called to setup a trial subscription but never received any follow-up emails from Sirius/XM.

While I like almost everything about the vehicle, I'll need more time to adapt to the yoke. For now, the yoke feels like a gimmick. I miss having a turn signal stalk. After years of driving, I keep reaching for things that are not there. All in good time.

On to trying to understanding coatings and protectants...

PS - Thanks to everyone who helped with Tesla therapy in this forum. Who knew that spending this much money would be so fraught with angst!

Sounds good. I told my SA that I wanted all seasons as I will be driving it this Winter. He said, "it will come with whatever tires the vehicle is built with, we must deliver with.. You can request a new build if you are not satisfied with the tires when the vehicle arrives.." So basicly... F. U. Take it or end up getting another car with... Summer tires!!!😡🤬
When I first ordered the car my SA was very good about my concerns. He transferred to the KC Tesla service center but still kept in touch with me with updates about my car. He reached out the day the car was delivered and asked if I received the correct tires. he told me he had documented my request and Tesla St. Louis would take care of me. I never received push back from anyone at my local service center. To most of the SAs it may have seemed like an unusual request, but they did not try to discourage me at any time.
As I stated in my post, I had little confidence the I would get what was promised. I have bought many cars, including some premium cars and have be outright lied to. Tesla, in my case, came through with their promises. To bad other service centers cannot be as accommodating.

My delivery experience was similar to yours. Very professional, courteous and thoughtful. They were delivering 75 cars that day so it was very busy. I think I was the only MS that was being delivered - I saw one MX, the rest were MY's and M3's. So I think I got their best SA and he was great.

It is too bad that Tesla's quality of staff is hit and miss depending on where you are and has been well documented on these forums. But they're not unlike most companies who are struggling to find and retain good, quality staff at the moment.

Love the idea of colored front bumpers in inventory - would have sped up my delivery by a few days lol.

Online on the Tesla site a MSLR's EDD is Nov to Feb; a Plaid's is June to August lol. So ya, it seems like they finally priced themselves out of the market on the Plaid. There are currently 8 Plaids available in the Greater Toronto area. We'll see if the recent price increases in the MSLR dampens demand or not.
I don't actually think they've gotten there yet. When it gets to "2 to 4 weeks" then demand has equaled supply. Until then it's still outpacing it by a good 25% or so.

Yeah we’ve seen it before. ~50 cars in inventory to service 350 million people is not a lot.
