518 - is the newest VIN i've seen. I doubt its a reject as i got VIN the day my "car has left the factory en route" text arrived

Everybody says tow doesn’t matter but look at all these MYPs getting vins/delivery even though I have an earlier order date.

I’m so happy for everybody but it just doesn’t seem right. So happy I removed tow, excited to see it update tomorrow or whenever.

For what other reason spend so much for just a hitch (unless you really are gonna pull a trailer - then tesla 7 mode pin makes sense)

It’s hard to believe they would make any changes that might disrupt the one assembly line that is cranking at full capacity and can’t even meet demand. But who knows. I’m sure this forum will be quick to find out if the change does happen.

I removed it this morning. You’re right, it’s just not worth it unless you have a need to tow things regularly.

I wanted it to carry bikes when I go on trips but forget it at this point. I just need a vehicle. Lol

Someone on here posted that they ordered it with the car, then took delivery and were told that it ships separately like any other order. So I doubt that will delay you.

I've heard that when you tow something such as bikes the ultrasonic sensors think you're backing into something 24/7 while driving.

My order was about 2 weeks later. Given your timelines I'm confident about getting a VIN in about 2 weeks or so:

My order date is just about a week before yours. I'm also hoping for a VIN within 2 weeks as well. My most current window is exactly as yours 8/15-9/12. MYP White/Black, no tow, no FSD.

I see everyone saying they got a text that the car has departed the factory. Does that usually come before or after the “schedule your delivery” text? Has anyone received an email instead of a text?

I got a text saying you have a VIN, then the next day I got a text saying schedule your delivery. Now I just found an email in my junk box from Tesla which says “Your Model Y is on its way to your delivery center and ready to be scheduled for delivery” and it has a link to schedule delivery. The email came on the same day as my “schedule your delivery” text. Seems odd.
